  1. I'm not sure how it would be done. But I like the idea.

That said when I stream and record with commentary I never say well I'm gonna head south-east.

I say I'm going to keep walking forward and to the left or right etc. Trying to figure out actual directions on the fly seems pointless.

Mentally I know I'm heading those directions...but just saying left right forward or back is much easier.

  2. It's been so long for me I'm not sure if I ever was a lurker.

I tend to join forums for things that really interest me first thing, sometimes during potential wait time after registering I will look for threads I will comment in once my submission goes through.

Interestingly enough my joining here, not long after I started playing TLD and the founding of The Long Dark Community on Facebook were nearly simultaneous.

I know this because the founder of said group reached out to me not long after I joined here to ask me if I would be one of the first Admins for that group when he founded.

So I definitely wasn't lurking anywhere after that! :D

I love both of these groups...my life wouldn't be the same without them.

  3. Basically the Region Selection screen is turned so North is to the Right of the Monitor/TV.

All that is needed is a N arrow pointing that way on said screen and it's just fine.

If the Region selection screen was vertical a scroll bar would be needed to move from Northern Regions to Southern.

That said it works fine just the way it is and is something I doubt will be changed as it's really an aesthetic thing and not terribly important.

    I said *bite-proof*, not *barely bite-resistant*, lol.

Ballistic vest prevents bleeding chest wounds 100%. I want a Joe Brown helmet that gives me a bit more than 4% protection- give me at least a 50-50 chance of a bear or cougar not splitting my noggin in two.

I tested the Ballistic Vest in TWM against the bear near Crystal Lake...I survived 4 back to back maulings...and died only because a blizzard stopped me from making it back to Mountaineers Hut.

I think it'll do just fine against a Cougar.

  5. For years and years I went by Ross (First name) Bond (James Bond) I'm British.

Then I was hacked and it took me years and much saving to return to the internet and I took up this name-

You know...the same one with Returns added to the end.

It was amazing how many of my old friends online got it and were like-

"Duuuuuuude, where you been!?!?!" without ever meeting me irl.

  6. I believe it's the obvious...follow the sign...the sign points to Immutable Hesitation...opening that will be no different than when they opened the tunnel collapse in ML when they added Forlorn Muskeg.

Also that video from Zak, (unless I misread), it doesn't show anything about a shortcut in Forsaken Airfield...I thought you were meaning there was a way to actually Goat up the Tree on the right in FA...if you're very lucky you can do it by the way.

  7. Just a thing to keep checking RE the Upcoming update.

Before the last update the Hinterland youtube channel in the Game Update video list had 25 videos with one hidden (the hidden one appeared a day or 2 before the update release).

So I've been checking the same video list for 26 videos (with one hidden) but that hasn't happened yet.

Don't know why everyone is so bummed about the toxic wolves.  They don't really sound like zombies to me.  Also I don't think they're a replacement for cougars like some are thinking, Raph would say so if they were I would think.

They are absolutely including the Cougar.

Raphael has been talking about adding one for years, excitedly, and he's not about to not add it now.

we dont all have to agree based on when we started playing.  my point was, the game that i fell in love with 8+ years ago is really veering away from what made it successful.

i have no intention to stop playing but the newer regions and content hasnt hit home for me.  the glimmer fog is another example.  to me its cheesy contrived difficulty.  i prefer to be challeged by scarcity, weather and other realistic natural challenged

Oh I can understand that loud and clear.

But this is Hinterland's story to tell. And I have learned to trust them with that story. Signal Void had me hooked and I can't wait for it to continue.

Just to be even clearer, I don't think anyone foresaw this when an Industrial Mine region was announced as one of the three. However I don't write things off just because they don't fit my pre-conceived ideas, I play them first to get a feel for them. Glimmer fog is not even truly difficult once you're good with navigation, but I love how the world looks in the glimmer fog around the airfield.

To be honest, this new region will probably take more getting used to for me, but I'm excited to got there, survive there and see how it shakes out.

  10. I spent my first 100 hours on Pilgrim mastering landmark based navigation which is how Hinterland directs us around regions and how to navigate the menus and other things to survive like how to boil water.

I spent my next 160 hours playing Voyageur (Normal) exclusively. To get used to wildlife, hunting, meat smell, fire management and other things like finding safe routes to avoid wildlife. I also learned how to hunt.

Eventually Voyageur became too easy for me...and so I moved up to Stalker, which plenty consider to be more difficult than Interloper because of the approximately 17 Quintillion wolves that straight away eat your face. Because of learning safe travel routes free of predators...I found these wolves easy to avoid. Within a couple of hundred hours of Stalker I hade it down to an art form (that I often still enjoy).

I play on any level from Pilgrim through Interloper to unlock achievements.

But for the most part, since I have unlocked all the achievements I care about I now play CUSTOM. I have two codes One Set between Stalker and Interloper (that I used to train to play on Interloper difficulty. And the other between Interloper and Codes like Deadman and NOGOA (No One Gets Out Alive).

My biggest advice to you, with near 6,000 hours played...is to continue trying, ask questions like this, and learn from all of your sandbox deaths. That is how each of us learned.

this may be an unpopular opinion here but i dont like the direction of this update.  i think we suspend belief quite enough already with aurora wolves etc.  now we have zombie poison wolves and specific gear to only combat that?  i was hoping this would go a more primitive direction that the game built its success on.  more crafting options and bush craft.  the graphical stuff sounds great but this update further alienates a 2015 player

    Erm...I'm a 2015 player...and I'm all in thank you very much.

2015-16 is when I started playing...and I'm loving the new elements just as much as the old. Can't wait to explore the Zone of Contamination.

However I also understand your position and can see why you're disappointed in the upcoming Tales December Release Direction.

I hope you give it a fair shake.

  12. We have two new regions coming up that both connect to Transfer Pass in the Far Territory.

Industrial Mine Region and Mountain Pass Region.

The previously mentioned rope anchor could lead down to Mountain Pass.

According to a sign near the Vacant Depot...the way to Langston Mine is to the right...if you go all the way in that direction it is blocked off by some impassible rocks. But that way will open next.

Don't forget that in Episode 5 we will at the very least be getting Perseverance Mills...and other unknown areas to pass through to get their.

  13. Recently they split the team into a group working solely on Episode 5 and one working Solely on the Tales expansion.

They are working hard on Episode 5 and the plan is last we heard that it will be releasing sometime next year.

The idea is that while the Episode 5 branch of the team works hard on completing it in the meantime we still get tons of new content as we wait.

Once TFTFT is completed, I feel as if we won't have long to wait for Episode 5 to finally hit as well.

However we as fans and players must understand that Episode 5 is likely going to be the longest Episode yet as it has a lot of plot points to tie together to give Hinterland and Us a satisfactory ending.
