  1. The addition of the character's hand on screen is a relatively recent one. You didn't used to be able to see them at all.

When it was added, the patch notes specifically mentioned that they don't match with clothing yet, but that it was being worked on, along with further additions to the "1st person presence" of the character in game.

    It'll happen sooner or later.

@Pillock  OMG. I guess I'm a terrible person, because I roared with laughter at your post.   Sorry for your loss, but but.... :D

I wouldn't have survived much longer anyway.

I wouldn't even mind very much if they changed the text from "You burned to death" to "You died of stupidity and clumsiness. Don't bother playing Interloper any more."

  3. I've done the whole "backing carefully over the edge of a precipice without remembering to take hold of the rope first" thing.

I sat in stunned, motionless silence just staring at the screen for about a minute and a half, unable to believe what I'd just done.

  4. I'm not too fussed, myself, as long as the overall number of firearms is reduced - by about half. This is quite important, I think.

Variety is always nice, and it'd be interesting to be able to make simple spears or clubs (as well as use the existing tools more proactively against wildlife). But frankly, I think there are much more pressing things for the developers to be worrying about before they even think about expanding on the weapons roster.

    * The risk of contracting Intestinal Parasites from eating cooked meat is low: 2% per instance. This 2% is per instance, and is cumulative. So, if you eat 10 Wolf steaks, you have a 20% chance of contracting the parasites.

That isn't true, is it? Or did I miss a further clarification?

From my experience it seems to be at least 4 or 5% per kilo of wolf - perhaps less for smaller pieces, I dunno. I've never eaten more than 3 or 4 pieces of wolf in a day, and my % chance went up to 19%.

After playing for a while, the game starts feeling mechanical and predictable with the current animal pathing system. For example:

While I'm hunting... If I see an animal in a familiar area, I know the route it's going to take. So I run to where it's going to be.... EASY KILL. There is no stalking or tracking the animal needed anymore.

IRL, animals do follow paths and such. And real hunters learn where animals tend to hang out, and where they tend to move when threatened. So as far as I am concerned, the way the animals are set up in this game is pretty satisfactory.

Have to say I agree more with djb204. Yes, animals have habits, and follow familiar paths; but in TLD these paths are just a bit too limited. They're too predictable, and it does start to feel gamey once you've been in an area for a week or two. Animal pathing doesn't need to be revolutionised in the game, but a bit of expansion of their routes and a bit more randomness would be great.
