For XB1 users....I just uninstalled and then reinstalled and got the update. Game went from 4 GB to 7GB. Hopefully this helps

And are you in-game on the Xbox version? Can you confirm this? Thanks!

Not sure if i got this right. There is no complete film in the making or planning, this is just a glimpse of how a long dark movie COULD look like IF they decide to produce one, right?

I missed my chance to support The Long Dark via Kickstarter, but will i have the chance to support the movie this time? Please say yes

Hey @Karl Grylls, check out this story for more information: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/resident-evil-producer-developing-long-dark-film-1025426

  3. To clarify for now - differing opinions on Cabin Fever is not a new topic. Everyone on the team involved with making design decisions is aware of the variety of opinions on Cabin Fever. We simply don't have an update to share on any changes to the mechanic that may or may not happen. When and if that changes, I'll be more than happy to share that information. And yes, at least for right now, we're hard at work on Wintermute, as you all know. Thanks for your understanding.

  4. At the Edge of the Forest - Lost Souls and Lonely Places

In part two of our look back at fan art in The Long Dark community, we’re stepping away from wildlife encounters and scouting for visions of lonely hilltops, forests and cabins. Isolation has been a recurring theme for many fan artists inspired by The Long Dark, and we’re proud to share some of our favorites with you once again.

And be sure to check out part one of our retrospective series as well, which you can find here

I am, it doesn't tell me what button to push to change selection. Or if it does it says RT/LT I think, and they don't do anything. Guess I should keep the mouse handy....

Are you not seeing the right controller prompts to let you switch tools when fighting off a wolf? Can you post a screenshot of what you do see, if possible?

  6. At the Edge of the Forest - Wild Encounters in The Long Dark

Deep into Cormac McCarthy’s post-apocalyptic novel, The Road, the father speaks to his son about a distant place, some two hundred miles away “as the crow flies.” But in their shattered world, there are no crows, and haven’t been for a long while. “Just in books,” the son says to his father, from whom the boy gets a solemn confirmation: “Yes. Just in books.”

Pictures, thoughts, and fragments, all in conversation with each other, inspire a shared experience of fictional worlds like The Road or The Long Dark. To see the many pieces of fan art, music, and storytelling that have emerged from The Long Dark’s community over the last three years speaks to this phenomenon. It’s precisely this conversation that makes community creations so compelling. They can act as a bridge to other points of view—other worlds where crows fly and bears threaten us on the edge of places we think we know, but whose stories we haven’t encountered yet.

As we all look to our August launch, please enjoy this collection of fan art, created and submitted by The Long Dark’s community. And we’ll be sharing additional collections over the next three weeks - keep an eye out for them!

A big +1 for these two suggestions.

The second aspect has been suggested numerous times in the past and I still support it wholeheartedly because it would imo counteract a lot of the current arbitrary gameplay choices one needs to make to avoid cabin fever. (It's e.g. not very intuitive to craft your fur clothes or melt water outside on purpose at temperatures around -35°C like I usually do on Interloper).

I also like the first idea a lot. Might encourage players to keep a bit on the move in a way that feels rather natural. At least more natural than spending your nights inside caves to compensate indoor clothing crafting times.

@Patrick Carlson : I think this poll shows quite impressively that the majority of players isn't really happy with the implementation of cabin fever in its current state. Could you please forward the suggestions mentioned above (or other ideas from cabin fever-related threads made in the past) to the Dev team? Even if it's already to late to ask for big changes regarding current mechanics before the release of Wintermute, it's definitely something the team might want to focus on in the long run.

Thanks @Scyzara. I will certainly forward the poll results.

Not going to disagree with @Carbon. It is very cool program and idea. However, @Carbon, isn't reloading a saved game or quitting before you die (and it saves) pretty much the same thing? ...  "akin to - I dare say - a cheat?"  :-) many players do that. Bottom line, as has been said ad-nausium in tons of threads, tis your game, you bought it, play it the way you wish to enjoy it. :)

@Sofox really nice idea. You might consider a feature that allows a player to plant a virtual flag on the map or marker, so they can mark places for reference?  They can simply pretend it is their way of "writing their own map"

Yes, as we've pointed out once or twice in the past, even though this program doesn't strictly alter game files, it does undermine -- in a way -- one of the core elements of the game: Exploration. Of course many players are using community maps already, or making there own, but this integration pushes the concept a bit further. We'd like to think players want to leave room to be surprised!

Good job with the talk guys. I read the book 'the thing' along while ago now before i watched the movie. Great story with amazing atmosphere and suspense. Good to see where the devs are getting inspiration from.

Favourite part though was hearing about the long dark and when the question time came around.

Was wondering how often these great podcasts are planned? Monthly, or fortnightly? I just really enjoy knowing more about the development of the game. Thanks hinterland :D

Also if i wanna ask a question which section can i post it in? A question such as 'how deep will the AI interations with the player be in story mode followed later by sandbox?'

Hey @i8turky2, glad you are enjoying the casts so far. Our goal is to get 1-2 (hopefully 2!) our per month, as we can. As it's a new channel for us we haven't settled into a strict schedule yet.

We're actually going to be recording ep. 2 very soon, so if you'd like to get a question in for consideration, feel free to email to us at info@hinterland games.com so we can take a look. (I see the question about AI above, but wanted to let you know about our plans in any case). :) Cheers!

I wonder if the communitie's recent discussion on The Thing inspired them to talk about it.

Quick question... if another community mailbag happens, where am i supposed to go to participate? I didnt find any notifications or links to submit any.

We'll put out a call for questions a day or two before the next recording. We'd like to include some kind of Q&A segment in each episode going forward.

The various discussions around The Thing are always of interest to us. :)

In this case, it was a favorite movie of both of ours, so we went with it. A survival tale to be sure as well! Thanks for listening everyone.

  11. Thanks for your feedback everyone, all good thoughts. We have some different ideas for the structure of the show and content, but it all depends on how much interest there is in the podcast itself.

If you feel like you'd want to see more podcasts, it be a big help to us to share it around and let others know about it. Hinterland's community tends to be spread over various places online, not just here in our official forums. Any help is much appreciated! :)
