  1. Oh, come on!! This is ridiculous. Fine so they don't want to add to the sleeping options but there are still flaws with the bedroll. I left the town hall to get the last survivor. I forgot to put my bedroll away and left it deployed by the fire in the town hall. I went and got the survivor and managed to sleep in the truck in the straw barn on the way back. The next day I get back to the town hall and a new bed has been placed in the town hall for the survivor I brought in. The problem is that the new bed was placed right where my bedroll was deployed and so the game simply deleted it. So now I am surrounded by survivors sleeping on beds and I have no way to sleep. I cannot sleep in a car outside because the temperature has dropped and I will die. I'm sorry but the current sleeping mechanics may be the way the developers want them but they are still flawed.
  2. I was not aware of the ability to sleep in vehicles. That was not a feature the last time I played. That info helps with my current in game predicament. I don't agree with the necessity of the bedroll but if the developers have made their decision then so be it.
  3. I think that when it is so cold outside that you are losing temperature at the maximum rate, that should drop to only the mid-level reduction when you are sprinting as your muscles warm up. The downside should be that you sweat causing your clothing to get wet.
  4. There is one thing I think could really be improved on in this game and that is the mechanics of sleeping. At the moment you can either sleep in a bed, on those strange bits of what I assume is supposed to be fur inside some caves or on your rolled up sleeping bag. If you are out in the wilderness and you don't have your sleeping bag with you and you cannot get to a bed or one of those fur patches, then you simply cannot sleep. Here are some suggestions for alternatives I would like to see. - There should be an option to sleep directly on the floor but you should only gain 25% of the rest that you normally would. In addition, if you sleep on snow then your temperature should lower and your clothes should get wet. - You should be able to use animal pelts, (not rabbit obviously) as an alternative to your sleeping bag. With this option you should regain energy at 50% the rate of normal and your clothing should remain dry as pelts are waterproof. Pelts should give slight protection from cold if you are sleeping on snow. Additionally, non-cured pelts should not progress toward being cured while you sleep on them. - Cardboard boxes should offer a second option. Instead of just being able to turn them into tinder plugs, you should have the option to simply flatten cardboard boxes which can be laid down on the floor. With this option you should regain energy at 50% the rate of normal and they should offer some protection from the cold but when laid on snow or ice, your clothes should get a bit wet. - Flattened cardboard boxes laid on the floor with a pelt on top should be both waterproof and provide protection from the cold and allow you to regain energy at about 75% the rate of the sleeping bag. - I would also like to see some unique sleeping places such as on straw piles in barns. If I don't have a sleeping bag but I am in a barn full of straw, I should still be able to sleep.
  5. I would like to see a change to the views possible from within a car. So a bear chased down a road and I jumped into a car to get away. I can hear it is still out there somewhere but I have no way to decide when to leave the car because I cannot turn around to look out behind me. I would really like the ability to turn almost 180 to look out the back. I would also like the ability to switch seats from within the car without having to get out.
  6. There are so many places in The Long Dark where you have to walk down hills that are very steep. Many of them would be extremely dangerous to walk down as you are likely to sprain or break an ankle. In reality I would find something I could use as a sled. There are lots of things that can be used as make shift sleds. Tea trays, broken off door from an old fridge, a large plastic rubble sack, upturned car hood. I would like to see a craftable sled that you could use partially for traveling down slopes but also that you could attach a rope to and pull behind you loaded up with stuff allowing you to take more with you.
  7. Well, don't I feel the fool. I somehow managed to play the game yesterday without ever noticing the countdown timer when I pressed TAB. It is especially odd as I used TAB a lot to check the time of day before heading out. Okay scrap my entire suggestion. Putting the time limit on the Descriptions page would only be for the benefit of Aspi's like me who are not observant enough to notice the countdown that the devs put right on the HUD.
  8. This is a wish that is really only for the benefit of first time challenge players. Today I tried my first challenge. I went for Hopeless Rescue. From the menu when you pick challenge, there is nothing to tell you that you have to complete the challenge in 7 days. Once you pick Hopeless Rescue you are directed to a page with a more detailed description of the challenge but again, nowhere does it tell you that you only have 7 days. Then you get into the game and nothing comes up to tell you you have a limited time. Because of this I wasted 4 hours travelling around the maps gathering equipment, not particularly hurrying as I did not realize that time was limited until the game suddenly told me I failed the challenge without telling me why. Someone on here told me that the challenge had a time limit and I had to go back into a new challenge and search around to discover that it is only on the objectives page where you see your time limit. This was not obvious to me because the objective of the challenge is so clearly laid out in the description page after you pick the challenge that I had no need to check the objectives page. Now I know to check but I was so angry at having wasted 4 hours that I would suggest to the developers to put the time limit on the descriptions page to prevent other new players from having to experience the frustration that comes from wasting hours when one extra line on the descriptions page could have solved the whole thing.
  9. Wow!! For anyone who hasn't done the challenges before, I have to say that that is so badly shown. I just fired up the game again and started up the Hopeless Rescue challenge. Nowhere on the challenge selection page does it tell you that you only have 7 days. Once you pick the challenge it goes to a page with a more detailed description of what you have to do. It doesn't tell you on that page either that you only have 7 days and when you get in game there is nothing that comes up to tell you you only have 7 days. I know what someone will say, "It tells you you have 7 days in the objectives page once the challenge has started." I didn't check the objectives page because the objective of the challenge is made so clear before you enter the challenge that it did not seem necessary to check it. It plainly tells you in the description of the challenge that you have to head to the top of the lighthouse on top of Timberwolf Mountain and fire off a flare. I am sorry but that is a really bad design flaw in the game. I know it now so I will check in future but I am going to have to take a break for a while because it quite frankly pisses me off that I wasted over 4 hours playing the challenge incorrectly due to one element of poor game design.
  10. Nevermind. No need to answer. I am done with the challenges. What a total waste of time. Hours wasted for nothing. I was doing the challenge where I had to get to the top of Timberwolf Mountain. I started off in Mystery Lake, spent hours there gathering supplies and clothing I would need to get to the mountain. Finally I was ready to go so I headed off and made it all the way to the Rural Houses in Pleasant Valley. I took the road north and then took the side road which crosses the northern part of the map. The intention was to follow that road all the way to the Point of Disagreement and then take the road leading up to the Timberwolf Mountain area. Half way along that northern road a strong blizzard hit so I took shelter in one of the Derelict Cabins and built a fire out of the wind to warm up at. I decided to pass one hour of time and the game suddenly puts up the message "Challenge Failed"!! WTF!! No warning, no explanation!! I was at full health, not hungry, not thirsty, a bit cold but sitting right next to a fire with 3 hours worth of wood on it. There is one thing that annoys me more than anything with a game and that is when it wastes my time. There is nothing from that experience that makes me want to repeat it. The devs really need to sort that out if they want to keep players. I don't mind dying from a mistake I have made, but dying because the game glitches out and decides I failed for no reason. That is something I cannot tolerate. Time for another break from TLD I guess.
  11. So I am just doing one of the challenges for the first time and it is taking much longer than I expected. Unlike Wintermute, there doesn't seem to be a save option. Do I have to complete the challenge in one session? I hope not as I have been on it for hours and am only half way through it. Anyone?
  12. Hey Devs, I just wanted to say that I have just finished part one and two of Wintermute in preparation for the upcoming release. I really enjoyed playing it. I had stopped playing the game for about a year prior to my current play-through and I really like all the new changes. I wasn't to excited about the old bear part of the game because, in my opinion, it is the one part of the game where things become extremely unrealistic. The rest of the game feels very realistic with all the survival elements. The bear however.......not so much. My main problem with the old bear is that you made it so the bear cannot be killed in the first fight, which would not have been a problem if the fight was handled differently. If you set the spear and the bear stayed out of reach trying to get past the spear and eventually runs off, then it would have felt realistic. In the game I got mauled I think 3 or 4 times before finally taking down the bear. That is the one part that I feel lets that whole part of the story down. People have survived encounters with a bear in real life. Very few of them, if any, end up in a state where they could physically take on a bear a second time, let alone survive 3 bear maulings and still be able to kill it. And on the bear's side, I managed to bury the entire head of a winged spear into the chest of the bear 3 times and each time it ran off and came back again later? Sorry, that just wouldn't happen. As for every other aspect of the game, top notch. This is by far my favourite survival game. For me it is, The Long Dark when I want arctic survival, Subnautica for marine survival and Green Hell for tropical survival. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to the next chapter in a few days.
