Not sure if this is a bug or game feature?

I started a new game and spawned some random place in the wild. After 1 min i had an emergency and had to go so I quit the game. When I came on later, and loaded game it spawned me in trappers homestead (I assume this was the nearest building to where I originally spawned).

Seems like this could be exploited to get a better start. So not sure if it's a bug or feature. Thanks

This is a feature. A game isn't saved after a start. You can always start a new game and get different starting point even if you save immediatelly after a start.

When you start a game it doesn't save. The game saves when you sleep, get injured, or enter a building.
