Foraging in Gardens and other root vegetables

Although it is winter in the game, the capacity to forage in gardens and such would be a possible limited source for carrots, potatoes, and anything else the devs might add to Frontier Cooking recipes such as onions and garlic. 

In the narrowest form places like the gardens at Thomson's Crossing might be places where a few potatoes and carrots might be found that would still be usable/edible.  This could be similar to searching for acorns around the oak trees or burdock.  

If only for optional flavor actions with the stews currently in the game and perhaps as optional ingredients for more soupy versions of the stews (i.e. no flour).  

IRL gardeners can comment on what might be possible.
