Animal meat being poisoned?

This is just a random thought I had but what if I’m the new region because of all the waste the animal meat is unsafe to eat even after being cooked?Im imagining myself on the verge of death because of starvation with a wolf I just killed cooking it’s meat and dying anyway because I ate wolf meat infused with toxic waste.I think that it could be interesting

I'm anticipating that it will be something like that - a zone where we need to carry in everything we want to eat or drink while we are there (likely using the travois due to the weight).  It also gives an expanded purpose to the new "high calorie, lightweight" foods. like bannock.
