Trying cattails

Ive been wanting to make a contribution to TLD science, and I’ve always wondered what cattails tasted like. Unfortunately, I don’t have foot-thick solid ice to hold me up while I gather them, so I have had to gaze longingly at the buffet.

Until now, that is…

I only got my shoes moderately wet in the attempt; they should dry quickly. The reward is worth it, however, I got two cattail stalks! 300 calories, enough for a quick nap.

I tasted them, and… they aren’t that bad. Mind you, they aren’t really good, either, but I would eat them if I had to. The flavor and texture are like a slightly more bitter and stringier celery, and they leave a bit of an aftertaste.

I wonder what they’d be like cooked?
