Since which update has the stuttering disappeared?

Outdoors walking is silky smooth, no micro stutters anymore; was this a Unity update or did HL optimize something? 

Stutters have been in the game since I don't know how long?  One of the explanations was animal-pathing?  (No hardware-changes from my side, btw)
