Wolves On Patrol

These wolves do not behave as wild wolves would.  The keep a small territory and patrol back and forth.  I might have come up with a theory as to the reason.  Patrols are used to guard a certain territory.  So the idea is what are these wolves protecting the territory from, maybe a greater menace.

Already there is an Old bear that hunts the player.  We are challenged with hunting it down.  Wolves are attempting to keep dangerous animals at bay.

Consider if the game is changed that allows a dangerous animal to arrive when a wolf pack or bear or moose have been removed.  The area does not become safer in fact it becomes more threatening.  As the local protector population is reduced this causes an increase in the chance to spawn a deadly pack of timberwolves or the Old Bear or Carzed moose.

These dangers are unstoppable and hunt the player.  Of course the flare pistol would scare them for a short time.   The player must leave the region with haste.  In order to escape a buffer of a couple of regions would be needed between the player and the beast.  Only the regions that have local protectors offers a buffer zone.  The peaceful Raven Ravine offers no such protection.  So be careful what you hunt; the hunter could become the hunted.

Anyone else have any ideas other than cougars why these wolves are on such a strict patrol.

Edit:

Found this video on typical wolf behaviour.
