Perhaps you could randomly find cars along the way that had some supplies, possibly siphon off fuel for use elsewhere?

I've only tried Mystery Lake so far.... I was aiming to get to 50 days on Mystery Lake, but I'm tempted to trash that game and try out Coastal.

You know you can get from Mystery Lake to Coastal Highway, right?

Follow the railroad across the bridge by the dam(n)!

Yeah, no reason to trash your game, just follow the railroad and you'll get to the Ravine. Keep going and you'll end up in Coastal Highway.

Mystery Lake has no real roads, so I'm not surprised there are no cars there, but some ATV's/ snowmobiles and logging trucks and equipment would be nice.

Speaking of the trucks and cars, I notice you can pop the hood and check the engine, but I've never found anything to actually do or collect in there? Just bad luck, or is there really nothing in them?

Thanks all.... I found my way to Coastal Lake and just had some fun roaming around there.

I noticed that when I popped the hood on stranded cars, the batteries stood out... it has more vivid colours than the rest of the engine.

I wonder if that's a little teaser at things to come... extract batteries and use then to power the radios I keep finding.

I don't think there is anything useful under the car hoods yet. Like The Intersect mentions, the batteries stand out and will likely be used for something in the future.
