Why would a wilderness survivor visit Forlorn Muskeg?

It depends on the playstyle and mode. For me, the most important items are the plants and animals. Just think of it how much you actually get from a mushroom and how easy and save it is to get it. Warmth bonus, medicine, leveling fire/cooking skill, calories ... . The same goes for the other plants aswell. If you compare that to all other items, than these have the highest value.

FM is like the summit in TWM, not for premade items, but for anything else the land provides you. In addition you have so many deer carcasses and lots of good hunting spots.

It is possible. but super annoying to stay in FM right from the start without a bedroll and without a guaranteed hammer spawn.

If it comes to pure survival, you always would chose the easiest way, and that's still CH with fishing and snares. But it is way more fun to go to FM and stay there.
