Why the far right of the cave? What's special about the righthand side? They should cure at the back of a cave, and not nearer to front.

I had a camp fire on the left hand side of the cave and some sticks and fuel and other things to the right hand side of that so put the hides on the far right from said items.

This was nearer the back of the cave, either way the hides won't cure on far right of the cave but if the hides and guts are picked up and moved to the middle of the cave at the same distance from the front that there were dropped at on the right, then they cure.

There *have* been some bugs over the years that have caused things to either stop curing when dropped at the new place, and only decay, but it seems like those have all been fixed in the last year or so (I haven't had it happen for ages), and there was a bug where this seemed to only happen at a few specific named locations- this also seems to have been fixed a few hotifixes ago.

The bugs about items not curing is still there so these weren't fixed properly. I have already filed a ticket.

At Lake Overlook in Mystery Lake I had fresh guts and deer hide and rabbit pelt and when I placed them on the ground on the far right of the cave the guts only said guts, the deer hide only said deer hide, and same with the rabbit pelt, there was no curing of any of the items.

The deer hide and rabbit pelt didn't have any condition at all, but if I picked them up it said freshly harvested deer hide, same with the rabbit pelt and guts.

When I picked up the items and dropped them in the middle of the cave all the items started curing.

Indoor curing seems to be working fine and I haven't noticed the curing not working anywhere else except in Lake Overlook if the items are placed in the far right of the cave.

I have a feeling it won't be region exclusive but it will be restricted to paid content like the Ptarmigans.

Also I hope the update is happening soon, I'm getting tired of jokers out there saying it's not going to happen till next year.

If its not region exclusive and is restricted to paid content that means anyone who doesn't own the DLC won't have to worry about getting attacked and killed by a cougar if playing on Stalker or Interloper and makes the game less difficult to survive without having a silent killer stalking the player on stalker.

It will still be an interesting new predator either way.

The cougar is an ambush predator but so are the wolves in Great Bear as I've been ambushed out of the blue by wolves who have just suddenly appeared from around a corner, and without warning I am ambushed with no chance or time to even prevent the attack.

  4. The Whiteout Challenge one wouldn't work as its time limited. I play on PS4. I finished this challenge but I failed it the first two times, the first time I didn't have night oil and was fishing to get more and didn't get enough in time.

Once you get everything that's on the list the challenge ends and if you don't get everything that's on the list the challenge ends at 30 days.

But I would like to be able to have this challenge have no time limit on it as it would be fun to try and live and move about outside while there is a raging blizzard that never seems to end and lasts for at least a week.

Maybe good for the beginning of a run then. Before you have the backpack or moose bag..

I'm always overweight so maybe just a booster when fatigues a bit low.

I do wish there was a non climbable way to Milton, even if it takes longer.

There IS a non climbable way to Milton from Mystery Lake.

If you watch this video you will see how you can get into Milton without using even one rope. Its at 18:51 in the video.

  6. I think the memento keys random spawns as I watched a video on YouTube and it showed the memento and keys on Coastal Highway in one of the cars at Commuter's Lament and the other in the car on the bridge near Rockfall but in my run I found no memento or keys in either of these two cars.

In my current Pilgrim run on the ps4 I have found memento keys in Broken Railway, Mystery Lake, Forlorn Muskeg, Timberwolf Mountain, and Ash Canyon.

Some of the mementos are in the car visors and other mementos are on tables or lying on the ground so they can be easy to miss if you are not looking.

Not all mementos have boxes as some mementos just clear part of the map. The memento in Timberwolf Mountain near Deer Clearing did this, I looked and there was no key or box there to be found just the note I found at Crystal Lake fishing hut hinting at a memento.

I cannot for the life of me find the memento and keys for Bleak Inlet and it's driving me nuts! Looking online isn't helping much either as no one has updated this info since before the March 2023 update, not even YouTube. I'm also getting mixed answers from the scraps I do find online saying that it's either in a car or may not exist randomly. Anyone find these yet and want to share the info? I don't even care about spoilers with this lol I've looked everywhere.

I rarely fish if I'm honest., Unless I'm desperate or waiting for a blizzard in coastal I don't much bother.

Last time I spent four days fishing in ch. Then all three lines snapped in about 5 minutes real time😁

That's a nice lot of suppers you have .and lantern fuel👍😊

I don't fish much either unless I need lantern fuel.

In my current Pilgrim run I have over 120 days done and I haven't fished once.

I'm on pilgrim but getting an indefinite amount of coal from one piece is a bit much..   and I have a huge pile of branches sitting in the main chamber.  I haven't or won't harvest them but I do wonder how many more will turn up on the pile. Makes me laugh every time I see them😁

A good place to take them to is the cave in Winding River as then you will have lots of fuel for a fire and can wait out any blizzards that arrive.

Its reminds me of the time I had to fish a lot to finish getting my fishing skills up to level 5, I fished and fished in Mystery Lake and when I was finished I had a huge pile of fish.

    This was all the fish.

And this was all the fish lined up outside the door at Camp Office.

For the most part they are ok but sometimes I could pick the same pieces up twice .  I only tried a few random sticks but one near the ml exit gave me about 7 instead of one. I'm getting multiples of coal in the pv to ml cave as well

I did notice a lot of coal in the cave when I was going from Pleasant Valley to Mystery Lake but that's not a bad thing,  and that was on Pilgrim.

In my interloper run when I went into the cave going to Mystery Lake I didn't find as many pieces of coal.

When it comes to research books I have found three Wilderness Kitchen books in my Pilgrim run even through I have level 5 cooking skills, it would be nice if I could find books for the skills I have yet to get to level 5 instead of finding the same books for skills I'm already level 5 at.

  11. I'm playing a run on voyager on the ps4 as I mostly play on voyager and I haven't noticed any increased clothing degradation,

A tip, if caught out in a blizzard and you know where you are, take off all the characters clothes and then get to shelter as quick as you can and once in shelter you can put back on the characters clothes, by doing this you won't get your clothes ruined or have them take as much damage as you would if you wore them during the blizzard.

I do this all the time if I'm caught out in a blizzard, I did it when a blizzard hit in Timberwolf Mountain when I was chopping wood near Mountaineer's Hut and instead of taking off all my characters clothes I had accidentally dropped them in the snow and when I got back to Mountaineer's Hut and went to put the clothes back on I released I had dropped them all, luckily I was about make a fire to boil water and coffee so that kept me warm until the blizzard stopped and I was able to go back out and retrieve my clothes.

Random multiple birch bark and sticks in the ravine

I think the reason it seems there are more birch bark or sticks in the ravine is because its a small map. I always find a good few beside the cave on the Mystery Lake side

I haven't noticed any more birch bark or sticks in the ravine more than usual but some regions have more birch bark than others, the ravine always had a good supply of them.

In Mystery Lake when going to the Trapper's Homestead, the birch trees near Max's Last Stand never seem to have more than two or three birch bark.

I had bought the DLC however since having to start all over gain I have been rebuilding the bases in several regions and have not yet gone to the Far Territories so have not started Signal Void (SV).

I have noticed that as I move along in Ash Canyon, I occasionally hear an odd "rustling" sound though there is nothing visible on the snow and no interact point comes up.  I get the impression I am coming across [SV] storage caches (or something) that reacts to my passage but would not be accessible.

Am I right that I have come across "hidden" cache locations which detect me but since I am not engaged in Signal Void (btw, this was during the day not at night/during an aurora) there would be no further reaction?  I have had this sound occur on Timberwolf and Pleasant Valley, I think.

No big deal but I was wondering.

Also strangely, on my Ash Canyon map, at the bottom beyond the region's nominal boundary, I see an orange graphic of a stone cache that is called "rock cache".  It seems to be beyond my ability to reach that location - I had found the Ash Canyon prepper cache - and when I turn off cache location on the map the "rock cache" disappears like the other caches I have in Ash Canyon.  I think it may be just an artifact but thought I'd mention it since I was posting about strange things.

About done with Ash Canyon, finally.

I have heard strange noises in Ask Canyon too and it happens when approaching snow shelters.

You can read more about it on this topic as well as watching the video I uploaded of the noises to see if its the same noise are you are hearing,

  14. When I first played The Long Dark in 2018 on the ps4 the region maps had lots of details and were easy to read then with the re-dux updates the maps where changed to what they are now. I was hoping would there be anyway to have the maps changed or to have the option to change them in the game settings.

I download the detailed maps to my phone and I look at those the most when I'm playing the game as they are easy to read and have lots of details.

    The maps we have now

I've just listened to it on very high volume and it doesnt sound like either .. it was more of a crackling kind of noise.  Very odd.

It sounds like something dropping but what is strange is that both times it happened I was walking towards a snow shelter as you can see in both clips so not sure if its a sound bug or not.

In your video... sounds very much to me like snow dropping off branches and impacting the snow below on the ground.
(I've head that one from time to time on my run - I know there is no animation for snow dropping like that, but I tend to think it's an ambient flare... and I'm a fan)

    :coffee::fire::coffee:

It does sound like that. There were a few strange going on's in Ash Canyon, weird sounds like that, floating matches at the end of a bridge and giant birch bark. I might rename it spooky canyon.

I've had the sound of prepare acorns staying after I had prepared them by hand and sleeping doesn't make the sound go away only leaving the building or going into a building if it happens in a cave makes the sound stop.

I have reported the prepared acorns sound as a bug as it happens every time I prepare them by hand.

  17. I agree. This was the first thing I noticed when I found my first Oak tree in the game, I marked the map with charcoal and noticed that the Oak tree didn't show up on the map so it would be great to have them show up on the map.

Although in saying that the Oak trees are easy to spot once you see one or know where they are at once found.

I have found Oak trees in Mystery Lake, Broken Railroad, Coastal Highway, I haven't seen or found any in Ash Canyon and I haven't explored Timberwolf Mountain yet besides heading to Ash Canyon.
