Additionally, since I honestly don't know much about modding, has the recent separation of story mode and survival made modding easier?

No, not really. But it didn't make it more difficult either. Mods don't work on Wintermute anymore, but thats only a minor issue that *could* be solvable if we would be interested enough. But it just isn't worth the time, since the story is finite. Survival is where the meat of the game lies.

In terms of modding "support" by HL, I don't have the same opinion as HyperLordBender. While not "enduser friendly" or as "easy" as official tools that other games got, we have our own tools now. We have support mods for certain functionalities, we even have a few tutorials. If Hinterland would actually publish anything like that, it would be severely limited compared to what we can do right now already.

The best thing HL could do in the future is to actually open a dialog to the current modding community like they've said they would 2 years ago.

Poke poke 👉👉 @Admin The door is open :D

But that too is just a minor thing. We do the mod support, HL is doing the normal game support and all in all there is not much we can complain about with the status quo. There won't change much from our side when the game is fully done one day. As long as there are players around, there will always be some modders too.

It's seems to be "Candlelight.dll" mod is screwing up interactions.

    It is not.

The information here are outdated. The candles don't use the AlternativeActionUtilities anymore, it is not listed as a dependency on the mod list anymore.
I'm guessing that your whole modloader/mod installation is outdated.

Send me your "latest.log" (folder: "\TheLongDark\MelonLoader\latest.log") and/or join our mod discord and give me a ping there-> https://discord.gg/VrjAWMjc

I've got excited now but can't get into game since the last attempt to remove 'melonloader' for that blasted skip intro mod fix

ML doesn't change any gamefiles and can be uninstalled either by simply using the installer again, or manually by removing the "version.dll" file inside the gamefolder.

As for Nexus ... sigh. People are just to used to get their mods from there. You won't find *anything* usable there for TLD. Not now, not in the future.
The TLD modding community does not condone that a 3rd party makes a profit on the mods, while the mods are created for free. Not to mention how people talk to each other there. Ugh ...

There are links to the *actual* mod list and the mod discord down in the modding section here (or if you shoot me a PM). All(!) mods there are vetted by the community and modders, to keep nefarious stuff out and give direct support.

    Your Epic problem:

Thats basically the same behaviour you'd encounter on Steam, if the Steam services aren't running in the background. So very likely a DRM issue with the integrated EOS services in the game. It isn't a general problem though. Just earlier today I've encountered an Epic player who is getting happily eaten by wolves right now.

That probably won't help you very much ... just my 2 little-moneys.

@Digitalzombie  sure how do I do that?

You can find your savegames in C:\Users\*YourWindowsUser*\AppData\Local\Hinterland\TheLongDark\Survival
Just make sure to pick the right one, according to your savegame "slot" ingame.

Then you need to upload that file somewhere and send me the link. googledrive for example.

many mods constantly keep breaking with every other new game version

While I agree with most of what you've said, this statement is not true.

There were about 2 mod breaking updates in the last two years and the latest of course because of the whole DLC release and code cleanup and restructuring.

While (of course :D) Hinterland didn't get into contact with the current modding community, like they have said they would over a year ago, there are hints that HL is actively working on making the game more mod friendly. While it could be better, most modders are actually quite content with the current situation.

Lack of updates on current mods after the DLC drop is mostly because of personal reasons on the modders part. Family, daily life and such

  6. MelonLoader 0.6.0 (Alpha!!!) works fine now. The mods are another topic. Currently only the console and "Afraid of the dark" are updated. Everything else will not work (yet).

There are no roadblocks in updating (.... yet), it's just grindy work that takes some time. The fox will get the update maybe on the weekend or next week. Depends on the other mods I'm working on :D

Fancier modlist page is also coming, xpazeman did some awesome work on that and almost completely overhauled it.

The dependencies for ModSettings are not gone, but renamed. We already got a working alpha version of it to use, so that problem is at least internally solved so we can update our mods.

Assuming Melonloader will still work,  those mods needing attention will just show up in red?

MelonLoader itself won't be a problem. Since its a universal loader, it already supports all kinds of new (and old) Unity versions.

Mods that won't work will throw errors in red, yes. But there are very very few mods that are "simple" enough to maybe still work. @Glacia described it pretty well.

xpazeman will update the modlist also soon. The old mod versions are kept (for timecapsule) and we've been talking about how to organize it for the DLC/non DLC versions. Maybe we even get some categories now to sort our mods :D

Initially, we just need to "turn off" Melon Loader until some mods are compatible, correct?

Pretty much. But since we don't know if we may loose some mods (modders not active anymore), I'd recommend a fresh mod installation later. Doesn't make much sense keeping old mod files around.

What you can do, is to make a copy of the complete current TLD folder. Rename the copy to "TLD with mods" or move it outside the Steam folder. This way you can always play the new version through Steam or the old modded version, without jumping through the time capsule. Steam only updates files in the original game folder. Need to make sure to save/load the right save files with the right version of course.

  8. No need to panic :D We got players with way more mods than that.

    @Skelegutplays

Check the settings menu. "GearSpawner" got some settings to lower or raise the probability for custom items to appear.
From the top of my head, I don't know if custom items are added ON TOP of those who spawn already by the difficulty setting
    or counted towards them.
So you might want to tone down your normal game settings also. But you should check first and see if the mod settings alone get you to an acceptable spawnrate.

Besides that, there are no additional mods on that list that would affect spawn rates.

    What'cha gonna do 🤷‍♀️

Let's share our favorite street corners to sit at to put a cup in front of us!

You can draw people and I'll mod their face into a random game.

I'll keep poking him and see if I can dig anything up.

Well ... that was a nothingburger.
No glitches that could be explained by mods and the problem solved itself after a system restart. So right now all I can give you, is a shrug. Pretty sure its not modding related though.

  10. Do you have the fox installed by any chance yet?

People are hitting the "command mode" button sometimes by accident, which locks you in place until you press the right mousebutton to cancel or target an object. Aside from that, we never had any bug reports that would fit here (in terms of mods).

Gamepads/Joysticks can sometimes interfere with games if you don't use them. If you got any, maybe worth a try unplugging them.
