Still worth having down the road if you’re using it til it breaks, down in the hundred level sections to narrow your journey a bit, side note did you get the bug that duplicated some variants? I found two more vaughns in its spawn spot for my run last night hunting for flasks

No, I didn't have that bug.  That would have been crazy hahah.  I did have the brothless stew bug though.  I normally play on Pilgrim so I'll have tons of cleaning kits and I never use the revolvers.  I'll keep it on the back burner in case I want to keep a rifle in every 2-3 regions.

There’s a variant item down there if you got it then yea not much other reason to go stomping around down there. I was doing the same in my run but decided to go on a scavenger hunt to find the flasks I’ll let you know if I find any canisters in the wild 😂

If there is a variant down the passages, I missed it.  Not too worried about it either.  I have a variant rifle (Vaughn's), miner's flashlight and Sport Bow.  The only variants that I am interested in is the Curator's Rifle, the Woodwright's Bow, and the Spelunker's Lantern.  Perhaps when I do BE on my Custom, I'll take a closer look around, now that I know where to go.  I won't waste any of the canisters.

There are additional canisters down in some of those zones think in total I found around 20 I still have 9.5 left after clearing everything do with that what you will ☺️👍

I explored almost all of it.  The only spots left unexplored are some of the passages to get to the control room.  I doubt there is anything that is worth going down those passages for.  I don't plan on leaving the Far Territory on this save, I'm going to go back to FA, and live on Drift Island until the next tale.  So I don't plan on going to the other regions for canisters. However, I started up a Custom save.  I'm going to do SV and BE again, but I will probably doing more exploring of Great Bear and start setting up safe house/caves.

  4. I just got done of Buried Echoes.  Hinterland, well done!!!  The story was very engaging,  There are parts of the mine I never explored just as I didn't want to waste the canisters I had found in the region.  I have loot that is strewn about that I will need to collect and take back to FA.  I can't wait to see the wrap up of this with the final Tale.

Scurvy: Key part that I take from his statement is that there are no plans to add an option to activate scurvy in existing games. I think introducing new gameplay additions, which only get active by starting a new run is just like a half-way implementation of it. Also that you can't separately opt-in/out scurvy in custom games is a sign of that. TLD is not a match based game, where you play a 5-10 minute match, won or lost, next game, but you play a run for days / weeks / months. HL should take this aspect serious, because it will be a recurring issue.

Scurvy workaround: That I can't hope for that HL brings a patch that allows existing games to opt-in scurvy; is there a mod / savegame editor that can enable scurvy on existing runs?

You can enable Scurvy on custom runs (even if you prefer Pilgrim) by your starting gear allocation. @Raphael van Lierop already mentioned that in the notes regarding the update.  If you don't want scurvy in your custom run, set it to very high. If you do want scurvy, choose any other option.  I think he also said they will update custom for adding the option for scurvy in the new year. The above is the work around.

Hinterland may never add scurvy to existing games, which I am ok with. They need to do what works for them and not always what we want. They could have a million reasons and we will never know all of them. Which is fine.

Also Raph has always been brutally honest. It's what I respect most about him. It may seem "unprofessional". I see it as a man who takes pride in the start up game developing company he started ( and it is no small feat to get to where Hinterland is now) and sometimes, having to constantly defend a choice can be aggravating.  I don't fault him if he gets frustrated from time to time. He is only human after all.

  6. I think if the new game mechanics are going to break the game or not able to be experienced at its fullest, I would rather start a new game.  We had an overhaul of the save system, so I think that was 100% valid.  (although on steam you still had access to them via the time capsule).  I have 2 saves that are 100 Days and over 150 days.  I don't get to play Scurvy on it and I am Not missing it at all. There is sooo much to Buried Echoes, I haven't noticed it NOT being there.  I have a new Custom save ( a sort of Outer Pilgrim where it slowly gets colder over time).  I have scurvy enabled, and I can only go inside the buildings at FA and BE to complete the quests + the bunkers.  It's definitely a bigger thought process of managing my food resources.

Quite frankly, the only thing I dislike is the flask in it's current state, and that is a very small, not even 1% of what we got in this update.  I still haven't used the travois as yet, but being used to winters and pulling a sled behind me with people in it, sometimes you have to take a wide turn and can't go everywhere, without people getting out and picking it up.  I see the travois as no different.

Even when I finish the BE tale, I'll probably still want to stick around the transfer pass.  I like it, it's different and I haven't even fully mapped out the map.  Eventually I will head back to Lower Great Bear and settle down somewhere. CH is usually a go to spot for me, but I eventually plan to map out all of the regions fully.

At the end of the day, while I may not always fully agree with what the devs have implemented, I appreciate all their efforts and we will never know 100% why something is not what we would want or expect.  What I believe 100% is that game devs account for as much as they possibly can and some things get cut for X Y Z.  It's still a damn good update, IMHO.

Yup, terrible reasoning. Far away from what? It goes both ways - if you spawn in the Far Territories, it's Lower Great Bear that's big and far away!

When I start a new save now, I tend to want to spawn in Forsaken airfield because I want to do signal void, and because of the quest to get the radio towers fixed and how long that takes, I go, repair the towers and come back.  I haven't even finished looting any of the regions.  Just where I made a pit stop.  Now, after Signal Void is completed, I will want to go to Langston Mine.  Maybe I will be more prepared than in my current saves, (one I made it to the Langston Mine 3rd floor and the other I made it to the huge building with the mine pit. Minimal chemical exposure,); that leaves me all of Lower Great Bear to loot and set up safe houses and survive.

And yes I know they are working on if you completed SV you don't need to do it again, but I want to, FA is beautiful and vast.  You can survive quite easily on Drift Island.  Get the insulated bedroll and insulation and be on your way.

Also I agree @Laika Ivanova, the Flasks definitely need an update.  I would like to fill up the flask and drink out of it.  It should be in the food part of the backpack, not the tools.   I haven't had a chance to try the travois yet.

  8. I love Forsaken Airfield. I could live forever at Drift Island if I so chose, especially as I heard that fish gives you Vitamin C.  Normally when I get tired of a run, I will just run up the Summit in Timberwolf mountain and walk off LOL.  Maybe I will journey to FA and live out the rest of the days dwindling down my food supplies. Nice and quiet.  Then start a new save and start again.

The new DLC, for me, breathes new life into the game.  I already loved the game, but I like the idea of "side quests" and for them to be challenging.  I just got done with my first play of ZC and it is pretty cool. I am in the "safe zone" and made it to Langston Mine.  There are a lot of nooks and crannies and forks in the road.  I feel as if I have only scratched the surface and can't wait to explore the map in its entirety.

    Winning Broth Strat (WBS)

Right. Lol.  I also noticed that the kg was double the amount. It's 1.60kg. Also I realized it was not indefinitely, but .01 kg gets used up. However .8L still shows. I wonder what happens when it says 0kg and .8L lol.

This also only happened on my new custom save. My saves before the update don't have the bug.

  10. I just found a new favorite bug in my game (and yes I did report the bug).  I have 1 .8L of Broth in my inventory.  I've made at least 6 stews and still have .8L of Broth.  The meat and Flour gets used up correctly.  It's not the worst bug in the game to have.  It was on a new custom save I started haha.

Just found out I can drink the broth indefinitely as long as I have hunger. LOL

  11. Had a chance to play for a bit. Decided to restart my custom save so I can experience Scurvy on at least one game and I was checking out the foods that have vitamin C.  Sardines have a Minor Vitamin C and I HATE Sardines. Doesn't matter what condition I get them in, there is a 80% chance I will get food poisoning.  (worst RNG luck).  Now I need to factor them into my diet bruhhhhh.

Other than that loving the new animations for harvesting and first person POV with the gloves and sleeves.  I'll properly play my save that finished signal void over the weekend when I have time.  But very excited to do a deep dive in.

They said early december so I popped in here just to be sure it wasn't released on a friday. I have furniture to put together tomorrow and was looking for a reasonable excuse to not do it, like say, a new awesome Tales drop. Guess I'll get my tools then... :D

Funny how everybody is busy discussing the poisoned wolves or the concentration of citric acid in the modern food industry, while I'm just sitting here in a corner very excited for the insulated flask🤓. It will be a game changer for me depending on how much  it extends the warm status and how many cups of drink it holds.

Oh I am 100% excited for the Insulated Flask. Hopefully there is more than 1 in the world *fingers crossed*  One for stews, one for tea, one for coffee.

Likely the announcement trailer will come out next week and then a week after that it launches.  I was trying to remember what they did for the previous updates

The glimmer fog is why I can only go during aurora, but that's risky too..

I know,an early Christmas present lol..

I'm still playing both runs but I do play house flipper, when it doesn't crash on me..  RAFT looks a pretty good game.though.

I haven't looted the caches in FA yet, so that will help me navigate somewhat in the Fog. Figured I will wait for the update first.

I haven't played House Flipper in ages, and Raft is a really nice game. A mix of story and survival mode.  But it also requires a lot of resources and lucky rng rolls to get the story progression.

Well if they are in forsaken then I'll have to sit and wait for aurora nights to go and get them .. that road feels so long lol...😁

I play on Pilgrim or Custom. I enjoy FA, but yes that is a long road, especially in a glimmer fog. It's so easy to get turned around.

Also whoop that tomorrow is December. Not too much longer now right?  Hopefully the finishing touches are being added to the trailer.  As much fun as the Raft and Green Hell are, I really want to play the new region.  I should open the game tonight and do some prep/weight management for when it comes time to travel to ZoC.

New gear usually does turn up after somewheres been looted.. not sure where the canisters will be though.. whether they mean scattered everywhere or just the new territories I don't know...

The side run is the tester to find everything out before I risk my long run..

I'm not sure what they'll add for the scurvy  ,maybe new food or just make rosehips renewable maybe.

Birch bark is a source of citric acid, as it turns out. I suspect it's more about forcing the idea of a balanced diet. Hard to know, there's lots of food that covers it (canned peaches, herbal, birch bark, and rosehip tea) including one infinite food (birch bark tea).

I do think it would be interesting to see the introduction of proper nutrition as a concept. I'm interested in seeing how it could work out. There's a lot of ways that this could go, including the introduction of organ meats as a harvestable component of an animal carcass.

Burdock also has some vitamin C as well. With the ability for recipes, I wouldn't mind some new food items/recipes. Maybe a carton of Orange juice left behind somewhere lol. Although there is plenty of choices already, if there is potatoes and carrots in the world, I wouldn't mind some citrus fruits.

If the canisters are in other regions, it would make sense to have a stash in FA since it's connected to Langston Mine. Shipment of canisters that never made it to the mine.

I thought of going to transfer with my main run but not sure where the canisters are going to be so left her in pv for now.. my side run is doing the very slow overburdened walk with as much gear as possible😁

I have one run that is Milton to head over to HRV to get to the bunker. Might grab the moose satchel if it's in the location that's close by.  I had most of Milton looted, but stopped cuz I was like hmm canisters and is there going to be new spawns for foods to fight off scurvy? So now I'm just on a hold.  As for my main run, sink or swim and hope for good rng. I'd imagine the new items will spawn in on a previously looted run. *Fingers crossed*

Anyone else starting a hopeful countdown to the update?  😁

Yes. Patiently waiting while I play Raft after work.  I am very much looking forward to the new update announcement and playing it or course. One save is in FA (completed Signal Void) and ready to make the walk over to Langston Mine.

  18. Would be an interesting idea, however, I feel like it would be too cold to ferment. None of the houses have heat, and keeping a fire going for 3-4 weeks would not be fun.  Buildings may block the wind, but it's still cold as heck. To ferment vinegar you would need the temp to be at least 15 degrees Celsius consistently. Could just find vinegar in the wild. Also need garlic. Mom does garlic pork every year for Christmas. Cuts up pork, adds garlic and vinegar and let's it sit for a couple days.
