Is it though? A successful businessmodel is one that keep making money over time. TLD has no addons, no subscription, no ingame purchases. While Hinterland is devoted to their community they still have to attract new players to gain income. My guess is as good as yours but changing the premise of the game by making it easier, its goals easier to attain, might change the game's status over time and thereby change the rate at which they attract new players. However the trend of making the game easier (eg mapping and rope climbs) could mean I'm wrong.

    Valid. Solid points. Thanks.

  2. Mountain Town (Milton) has the Grey Mother's House. Large stove and usually good loot but no workbench.  I prefer the Paradise Meadow Farm as it has a large stove, access to a workbench (in the barn) and you can set up snares just outside to the North. Reasonably quick access to HRV, FM and ML.  I know you said DP, CH and PV but try it sometime.  I doubt you won't like it.

For DP, I usually live in the lighthouse.  It's central.

CH is the Quonset Garage (workbench and indoor cooking)

  3. I don't have very many posts here but I have been playing the game for a long time.  Just my two cents but I would postulate that a successful business model for anything, including video games, caters to the clientele.  In this scenario, as stated by hozz, a simple toggle switch for SoD vs SoE in Custom Mode would appease everyone.  This way, those who prefer permadeath would get what they want and those who desire the save function would also get what they want.  Everybody wins.  Thoughts?

Today I learned that Timberwolves can climb the steps of the lookout tower in Bleak Inlet. Not only is that a little bit terrifying(and by a bit I mean very lol) I didn't know this and I practically jumped out of my own skin when a Timberwolf came flying up the stairs at me. If I was a cat, you would have to peel me off the ceiling with my tail looking like a bottle brush. LOL :D

I probably would have screamed a little.  Wife and kidlets would have laughed at that.

With the fix to accessories (the "outside" slot was actually inside), one might consider that whatever affects the inside slot has to get through the outside slot/layer.

There is nothing wrong, for instance, with equipping the moose hide satchel in the "outer" slot of accessories, but then as things get wet or when incoming damage occurs the satchel will take the hits.  However, depending on one's druthers, putting the satchel on the inside slot and the wood ear wraps on the outside (yes they are rather fragile) means that the ear wraps get wet first and any incoming damage would strike them first (I think).

Similarly.  If one had an expedition parka and a windbreaker, a choice can be made as to which should be on the outside slot.  Granted, the expedition parka has better warmth and wind chill protection, greater water resistance, etc. compared to the windbreaker, but putting the windbreaker on the outside means that the windbreaker would have to get completely wet first before the parka would start to get wet (unless you went for a swim in the ocean or lake).  The windbreaker dries faster (it seems) and the windbreaker should tend to take damage first compared to the parka.

Something to think about when considering how to arrange one's clothing and gear on their person.

Of course, some things only go into or have a beneficial effect when put in a particular slot (i.e. crampon, I hear is one that requires that).

Yeah...the crampons only go in one slot. Recommend (IMHO) that they only be worn when on a rope, ice or very steep terrain.  They DO get wet and are a real pain to dry.  The currently don't dry by putting them by a fire.  The only way I could dry mine was to wear them for a few hours on a sunny day.  If it's snowing, they will get wetter.  At least that's how it works for me.

My goal is to fill up the garage with all the man made items I can find. In addition, a floor full of saplings is also on my list.

You never know when a customer is coming, and then it is important to have a selection of destroyed food items to offer them.

Im still working how I am going to arrange them.

Getting all the skill up to 5, map a lot (if not all) the maps, getting to know Ash Canyon properly, beat my old record of +1200 days,

Getting all the metal from the dam and the game in general.

One game I decided to collect as much ammo as I could.  Wound up with over 300 rounds for the revolver and over 150 for the rifle.  Yes I made a couple trips to BI to reload to make my cache of ammo.

another game I decided to craft as many arrows as possible.  Still working on that one.  The limiting factor is feathers.

Kill an animal and don't take all the meat. Leave a bit left.  The animal will not disappear and every few days??? you get new feathers.  I left the deer near the railroad in Mystery Lake alone and pick up feathers every time I pass through. Over 300 now.

  8. I started scumming about 300 days in my latest run.  Been playing for years but never actually got to the 500 day mark.  I am 11 days away.  I am concerned about the odd, not-my-fault events that could potentially kill me and don't want to start my game again, so close to the 500 day mark.

    Example below

In Ash Canyon, on the path behind the waterfall, coming down the mountain, there is a lip that you have to get REALLY close to the edge to get up over.

    On my other play-thru's I haven't scummed.

    Angler's Den to start with

Once you've explored the upper reaches you can live for a while at Miner's Folly / Foreman's Retreat. Once you've dealt with the bear it's predator free. The bear will feed you for a long time. There are also a some deer - up to 4 even on Interloper. But rabbits are far away, so snaring is a bit of an issue. It may not be perfectly sustainable, but it's really quite a nice area. Has an outdoor workbench with a fire barrel. Perfect for turning all the birch saplings into arrows while cooking lots of water.

To live at Homesteader's Respite (the house above the fishing hut) you first need to go there once from above and place a rope down to the lake. Some people think the rope is an issue, but it's a very short climb. Just make sure you aren't completely exhausted. And if you are Angler's Den is not too far away

Same here. Been living there for the last 20 or so in game days.  Pretty comfortable. Spent a bunch of time at the Foreman's place as well.  Both are good.

  10. For me...I'm a hoarder.  I want to find all of the items in the entire game and take them back to one place, fix them to 100%, and have them on display.  Very much part of my OCD. The pic below is just a partial collection...you should see the pistols and rifles.

I think the correct method is put crampons on the table or on the ground. Then drop one cloth. Now right click on the cloth. Drag cloth over crampons and use the mouse wheel to rotate it here and there. This way you can dry them. :D

Lol. What about going to a cliff, drop them, right click and then jump. Probably dry quickly on the way down.

  12. Wondering about the "realism" with a 1-2 use prybar. A prybar of that size should be able to eat through as many lockers as desired without degrading at all. Prybars are pretty tough tools. Not sure about the airplane containers though. Don't know enough about them. Car trunks...don't think they would impact a prybar too much but someone with more expertise mat be able to chime in on that one.

  13. I think you may be on to something. I've been trying to figure out how to live indefinitely.  Lots of threads here but trying to figure it out myself first. Food...rocks and rabbits. Fuel...sticks. Ignition...mag glass. Water.. good to go. The only thing is clothing. Eventually, we'd run out of cloth. So using animal pelts would work but eventually, at some point in time, we'd only be able to harvest rabbits (no ammo, no knife, hatchet etc). Why can we only craft a hat and mitts from rabbits. I like the idea of mixing them up.

Digging the frozen ground would be pretty difficult I think but making a snow mound would show the respect I suppose , seeing as spring never comes that’s a permanent burial.

I would definitely agree. Snow mound would work. Or...maybe another use for all the rocks we find. Maybe a burial mound to keep the wolves from digging it up.
