  1. Doesn’t change the math though. Either you understand it or you don’t. On easy levels like stalker and below, sure- just ignore quartering just like you ignore cattails. Who picks up cattails in easy levels?? But on interloper you have to know how to maximize resources.  quartering does that. It is about resource management as well as time management.  Those aren’t important when you are sitting there with a can of condensed milk and two expedition parkas harvesting without needing a fire lol.

  2. Absolutely no reason for candles. Duplicative. You have fire for light or a cave on clear nights. Candles destroys the mechanic of limitation of functionality.
Understanding the brilliance of the game designing clearly makes candles a bad idea.

Eh? At harvesting 5 it's 6 min/kg with the improvised knife, so you can harvest the meat from a 40 kg bear in 4 hours. 28 more minutes for the hide (and more for the guts, of course, if you need them). Hardly impossible.

For me, quartering is situational. I'm more likely to do it early in the game or when the carcass is near a cave or other location where I can take advantage of the indoor temps while harvesting the sacks you get from quartering.

Ridiculous. You clearly don’t play interloper. There is no way to spend 5 to 8 hours in interloper in one spot and maintain a fire.  The weather changes way too quick. Plus it’s just plain...simple...math. In less time that getting a hide and two guts you get the hide, 10 guts and the meat. math. Simple.

I play interloper all the time and hardly ever quarter meat.

Well when you get good at it you will understand.  Either that or you don’t play interloper.
But cutting a whole bear or moose on interloper in the open is poor decision making. The weather change alone makes it impossible.
what do you do when you are 1 hour in and a blizzard starts up?  I simply finish the quartering taking a tiny bit of cold damage and then safely transfer the catch to the nearest shelter in as little as 3 trips not using any additional resources. it’s just simple math- in less time than it takes to get a hide and two guts, I get the whole animal.

I haven't gotten them yet, and am all the way in Mystery lake at the moment. I want to get the new gear, but if they can't be repaired, that seems like a long trek for a short-lived convenience item.

First of all crampons are hardly short lived. using them only when needed they will last well over a year.
also I made a wish list request that the developers make them repairable at the mill. Word is this was implemented in a recent update but I haven’t tried it because I still haven’t needed to- mine are still at 70% on interloper after 300+ days.   But the idea is this would finally give interloper players a valid reason to go to BI.

  6. Quartering is essential in interloper. It is impossible to harvest a bear in the open.  I always quarter deer or larger when exposed.
I see a lot of people who give the poor advice of “don’t bother with quartering”. they either don’t understand the concept and why it’s useful or they play stalker or below.  If nothing else, at least a player should understand quartering mechanics so they can advance in skill.

  7. let’s remember this is a survival game, not a camping simulator. If there are to be seasonal changes it should waiver from brutally cold and wintery to unbearably cold and wintery. certainly not spring and summer.

  8. Once you reach level 5 archery the standard bow is way more than sufficient. Plus no way I would trade not being able to shoot while crouched over more power.

  9. Absolutely none of those. I especially don’t use any aids or save scumming seeing as how I regularly call out “interliars” (fools who make interloper settings easier such as removing cabin fever or starting with a bedroll and still think it’s interloper). the trick is I simply know all the maps very well and have indirectly memorized the loot tables just from playing enough.   I know where the Wolves, bears, and all spawns are just from playing many hours

Honestly once you get the bow you can just last indefinitely even on deadman (ATDS is actually how I play deadman).  I typically get my forge run by day 13 and already have my maple and several birch already dried and waiting. Sometimes I even build the bow and arrows right at the forge location if it’s in FM or BR.   Other times like on Deadman I don’t get it started til more around day 25.  But again, once you have a bow and a half dozen arrows, the challenge is over.

The first 30 days of any run in this game are the most enjoyable... for two reasons 1) If the character dies, there is less time and effort invested in the run... making it easy to just start again. .

For me its the exact opposite.  For me the excitement is when you have everything to lose on a risk. Its not nearly as fun when you have nothing to lose because you arent invested.

Taking my 1000 day interloper character into Ash Canyon for the first time without researching the area or pulling a map was the most unnerving adventure I can ever recall in gaming.  And the horror when I finally found a cave only to find the caves were not warm (which has since been nerfed) and experiencing a true survival emergency on a character months in development.  What wouldn't be fun would be just creating a new stalker character to explore the region first with no danger of dying and nothing to lose, or if I save-scummed the character.

  11. Well for those paying attention, of course interloper isn’t the hardest level. Deadman of course is harder.
Also some custom settings can be made that are harder than the default interloper settings.
The discussion here is about the ridiculously uneducated claim that the first 30 days of interloper are the EASIEST.  It’s absolutely untrue. That’s the discussion.

Ya, I'm 400+ days into a survival save, had a previous one that went for ~100 days, played some challenges, and beat the story mode (As of right now). No one here is spreading misinformation.

As I have mentioned, fishing tackle does not take much longer than a sewing kit, except for items like the Wolfskin Coat, etc. If you actually read my post, you would know. Here it is for you, as you clearly didn't read it for yourself:

And have you considered how fishing tackle is actually FASTER when it comes to crafting animal clothing? Using the sewing kit for that would actually make you waste a lot more time and use something that is more rare in the higher difficulties. To add on, in the beginning when your mending skill is lower, you will fail A LOT when fixing clothes. This will cause you to waste a good amount of sewing kits, which would be better to use in emergency situations, when every minute counts. Of course in the beginning you will most likely use a sewing kit, as you won't have guts nor scrap metal. However, once you do, it is a lot better to save your sewing kits when you are in a bad state (Very low condition clothing, causing you to freeze, etc.).

So no, I'm not spreading "misinformation," you just didn't read my post all of the way.

You are so incorrect. Once you learn the game you will understand. Master interloper - hell even try it once and then come back.

  13. Don’t post on a forum unless you know what you are talking about so that you Don’t give misinformation. If you don’t know or aren’t sure, you can help out the community by just keeping silent.
for example, don’t say “hunting animals and not harvesting them causes blizzards”. it’s absolutely untrue and in fact it’s a good strategy to develop your bow skill quickly.

also- on interloper, don’t “save” your sewing kits. use them first and often because once you level up to higher levels in mending (which takes ridiculously, insanely long) using fishing tackle becomes much faster so you can just use fishing tackle without penalty and without limit in resources since gut and hooks are virtually unlimited.

  14. When you mod interloper to make it easier it’s not interloper, it’s interliar.
You are NOT an interloper player if you make it easier.
also the first 30 days are the hardest, not the easiest despite the cleverness of the poem. anyone who has played real interloper is well aware of that. Anyone who has actually played interloper knows that once you get a bow you can easily last indefinitely and there is no challenge once you establish bases on each map- its easiest then by far, especially compared to the start of the game.
the first 30 days may be the most fun, but they are absolutely not the easiest.

Well yes, but no. The stove barely lights up place in front of it and the rest of the house stays dark, but a candle in each room can help me navigate easier to my bed or to tally the items I have on the table.

Oh.... you mean like a lantern?

  16. Occasionally there are but it’s not guaranteed and it’s exceedingly rare except for a couple of notable places:

in the maintenance yard one of the crates on the elevated platform sometimes has a stim in it.

in hibernia, a backpack can be accessed behind a crate and metal shelf that I have never once found to contain anything but then again I only play interloper.
In the BI cannery- most crates outside contain sardines.
Not a crate, but harvesting the cloth drape over the shelving in grey mothers will usually reveal something behind it- often an accelerant.
other than that on extremely rare occasions you might find something but it’s definitely not like you should consider crates to be treasure chests lol.

there is no point of mine. i was only curious about your opinion about flares, in comparison do including candles in game.

Well if there was no point I don’t see how my answer could be insufficient.
Regardless - my point is if you want to read or do tasks - just light a fire. There are lots of locations with fires by crafting tables in fact- both indoors and out.  Outdoors is even better because you address cabin fever as well. If not crafting just sit by the stove or fireplace to read or whatever.
Embrace the genius of the efficiency in the design.  It’s there. It’s always been there.

  18. agreed- we have an understanding.  And I always walk well. In fact, sometime if you want,  I’d even be willing to help you catch up. But it takes a lot of dedication, persistence, and a ton of preparation.  It doesn’t come passively. So you will have to abandon that TLD mentality.  Hopefully, grasshopper,  you only take peace with being complacent in TLD, but not IRL.

dude, only you are talking about lanterns. read it all again.

I did. And I still don’t see your point. Sorry bruh. I reread it twice but it still sounds like you are saying lanterns and flares are redundant,  when they obviously are not. so I really don’t get your point.  Maybe just tell me your point.

  20. That makes no sense.  If I won the lottery I wouldn’t lose because a bunch of ungrateful idiots inundate me. I would go into the lottery EXPECTING that freeloaders will surround me and that only my “true friends” will persist.  Hell I would consider it a win to find my false friends even without winning the lottery- but I’d rather WIN it. If I wanted to maintain my social circle then I wouldn’t play the lottery, knowing it could change. Therefore I win.  But if I wanted to win the lottery I would prepare accordingly for these expectations therefore I would still win without any loss. Believe me I wouldn’t pass up WINNING $100M because of those expected inconveniences.
      Fail there bruh.   Epic fail.

well you did say you are a fool. I am wise though. Not just because I learn from my mistakes as well as others, but mainly because of my foresight to prevent mistakes by analyzing all permutations like I just demonstrated.
And no- I don’t want to trade places with you.  God no. I hate bumper stickers.
