I would like to see different versions of the badge,

    * Gold Badge for the tasks being completed in Stalker,

    * Silver Badge for being completed in Voyager,

    * Bronze Badge for being complete in Pilgrim.

There could even be Platinum Badges for Interloper.

I think that someone who completes the tasks in Stalker deserves greater recognition than someone completing the tasks in Pilgrim.

And for people who complete the task with all, or many, of the custom settings turned to Easy, well, theydon't deserve any badge.

There are people who play this game with passive wildlife/wolves turned off because they have a specific health condition e.g. anxiety disorder.

Honestly, I don't even play custom games but I don't think it's fair for such people to be penalised for playing with custom settings. It also seems counterproductive for people to grind feats in official modes first just so that they can use them in their custom games.

Also, given how this is a single player game with no leaderboards or anything, the difficulty in which an individual completes feats does not harm or should not bother anyone unless that specific someone has an inferiority complex.

    Just my 2 cents.

  2. Best time to eat salty crackers is when you're completely dehydrated so probably when you just wake up from a 10-12 hours of sleep. Cattails, salty crackers and sodas are good for stashing as emergency food at bases if you tend to lead a nomadic lifestyle. Cattails and crackers don't decay at all and don't give you food poisoning. Sodas decay pretty quick even if you store inside but you get 0% chance of food poisoning even when it's ruined so I like to keep them at bases. Or you could just drink them on the go to lighten your weight if you have too many.

I'm very skeptical about eating chocolate bars, granola bars, peanut butter, sardines in the morning/during the day if they're below 75% condition since they have a small chance of giving you food poisoning which could pretty much ruin your whole day. I usually eat them at night, right when I'm about to sleep so even if I get food poisoning I just take antibiotics and sleep the 10 hours away.

Eventually if you live long enough, you won't have to worry about food poisoning and you'll end up with stockpiles of meat at your bases so you can just stuff your face before going on your trip.

next time your enter a cave, pay attention to two different clues as to the cross over point from being technically still outside vs. inside of a cave.
you'll notice that when you walk in and head directly to the back without stopping that your speed will suddenly drop and you kinda slow down the pace.  At that point you are slowing down you have crossed the threshold are are now inside.  Also the coloring of the floor shading changes hues from the lighter icy blue color near the cave entrance to the darker deeper blue stone look.

ever notice a corpse near a fire pit by an entrance?  don't let that placement fool you as technically you are still outside, so if you drop hides and guts to cure, they actual decay instead.  Whilst just a few meters away in the back of the cave, items placed there will cure just fine.  I don't even bother using that fire pit as I prefer to go to the deepest part of the cave to set up my campsite.

I use the warmer part of the cave to sleep through the night without a fire. But if you want to cook in a cave, the colder part works better as outdoor fires last longer with colder temperatures.

  4. I don't know, I feel like one of the most challenging parts about Loper which makes it fun is your race against the worsening weather in the first 50 days. That's why I plan to loot the colder regions like PV and TWM as early as I can when the weather is still forgiving so that I can be "done" with them and move on to warmer regions. Of course, put some effort to stone rabbits and harvest a couple of ravaged deer carcasses (there are plenty of easy carcasses in the Ravine/Winding River) so that you can have stuff curing while looting/forging. If you do this from the first few days, you'll be set with full rabbit/deer clothing by the first 10 days.

I also feel Loper is challenging/fun because you have get everything by yourself if you want to craft something. That includes hunting big game for their hides and get them curing ASAP before the weather turns nastier. Adding cured bear/moose hides at the summit will make Loper no different from spoon feeding you with pre-made moose hide satchel in HRV and bearskin bedroll in BI in lower difficulties. It'll honestly just take away the fun of playing Loper and I'm pretty sure many long term Loper players wouldn't want that.

When you map the charakter reveals the exact position on the pitch black map, which means he clearly knows where he is right now. Why hide this information from us?

The area is still small. Try the outlook on CH, the revealed area is super small even if its the highest spot on the map.

You just gave a solution to your own problem - don't know where you are? Just do a mapping action and it'll reveal your current location. Keep a charcoal or two if you do get lost frequently.

Again, that's what Polaroids are for. If you have the polaroid for Abandoned Lookout Vista in CH, you can almost reveal the entire CH in one single mapping action. You may say you still need to find the polaroid in the first place - yes, you do. That's the solution to your issue and you gotta accept that you're not always going to be spoon fed.

  6. That's what Polaroids are for - they can reveal about 50% of the region with a single surveying action.

The GPS arrow is already there in Wintermute. It makes sense there because story mode has a lot of handholding to help new players  and the whole map is already revealed to you from the beginning.

But for survival mode? Doesn't make sense when the whole point of the mode is to survive as long as you can, and getting lost is something that you can never experience again once you know the regions like the back of your hand so cherish while it lasts. Besides, what's the point of the arrow when the whole map is just pitch black until you survey it anyway?

  7. Honestly, adding arrowheads and cured bear/moose hides will make Loper way too easy in early game considering it's not even hard to make it to the summit - well, by the time you play Loper you'll probably know the older regions like the back of your hand anyway.

And if I remember correctly, I did get one of each for cured rabbit, wolf and deer hides, no cured guts though but not a big deal since they're easy to get.

To me, it's still worth to get to the summit for the distress pistol, ear wrap, firestriker and matches. Maybe just add a small chance of Mackinaw spawn at most? Since it's more or less the "Expedition Parka" for Lopers anyway.

One of the key point in early loper run is, check around the famous spots for hacksaw, hammer and bedroll. Fast. Then harvest guts from bunnies and deer carcass, and samplings using hacksaw. Cure them, and then rush to FM or DP to craft a knife, hatchet, and arrowheads. When you come back, guts and samplings will be ready. If I'm lucky, I could craft my first bow and arrow within a week. My personal best record was 7th day afternoon. I think some better experts or oldbies would make the first bow and arrow even faster, like 6 days. I usually finish my bow and arrow within 10 days.

This is one of the reason why I prefer HRV start as a loper, but PV or TWM start is good too. FM start really depends on hammer availability at Milton or BR maintenance shed.

Remember, early phase of loper is the fight against a time as temperature drop is harsher than other difficulties, and you should finish some crafted coats before day 50. Even with all those coats, after day 50, weather is very cold and harsh.

This run was FM start and I managed to find both the hacksaw and hammer in ML during the first 2 days. By Day 10, I've crafted the bow and arrows, rabbit hat and mittens, and deer pants. Didn't craft the deer boots yet though since I found a pair of work boots at good condition.

Went on to PV to loot some more matches and get bear hides curing before summiting TWM. Summited TWM on Day 23 but didn't manage to find the second pair of thermal underwear that I'm missing.

Back to PV after looting TWM, bear hides weren't done curing so I was crafting my deer boots at the Barn until I saw a moose in Lonely Homestead while collecting birch bark one day. Not much places to climb to shoot him from safety, managed to drop him with 5 arrows at L2 Archery but of course, I got double broken ribs as well.

Now day 34, bear hides have been just cured so I think I'm gonna craft the bear coat and move onto CH and DP while my moose hide is curing to find my missing thermal underwear before it gets ruined.

  9. I play mainly Voyager (have an ongoing 600+ days run) and have recently moved onto Loper while completely skipping Stalker.

From my experience, Voyager wolves are dumbed down in a sense that they're hardly a threat once you're geared. On some days when I'm so bored, I just go on a wolf killing spree head-on with my bow. Even if I miss my shot and get into a struggle, I can get rid of it fast without losing more than 20% of my health.

But I can't say the same for Loper wolves which are more deadly and  have way higher detection range. I've had wolves from Derailment coming to investigate when I was travelling down the hills from Lake Overlook to Camp Office after harvesting the ravaged deer carcass near the cave.

I also lost my first Loper run on day 6 to an aurora wolf near the Dam gate when I had 80% health (but gotta admit I was winded and it was an aurora wolf so oh well). Since then, I've been extra careful with wolves on my second run even if I have my bow and arrows. Maybe I'll wait till I've crafted my bear coat before engaging them head on...

Fun fact, the Mountaineering Boots you acquire in episode 1 of story mode are just reskinned Mukluks.  The stats are all the same.

They're actually 0.5kg lighter than the Mukluks, making them the best boots in terms of warm to weight ratio.

Now you tell me. :D I did mine a while back (pre-WE) playing an hour a day -- which was all I could bear due to the boredom -- for weeksPV was twice as much progress per "blizzard hour" than other zones, but it was still a gigantic grind.

No regrets though.  It's a good feat for Winter's Embrace.  Also for Interloper, depending on how you use blizzards.

It's alright as long as you're happy with the outcome. 😁

  12. Having served in a mandatory military service, I couldn't agree more. While it's not entirely game breaking since the player can choose to unload before cleaning, the concept of cleaning a loaded gun is just wrong.

I opted to try some achievements. 25 days not killing anything, 25 days surviving off of food from the land, 50 days without firing the rifle. That, with the COLD weather is actually pretty tough. Although, the NO Cabin Fever helps if i have enough food to survive a day or two.

Also, WE is the perfect game mode for the Blizzard Walking Badge. get out there and walk in that blizzard.

If you're grinding for Blizzard Walker feat, story mode is the way to go - I got mine in less than an hour (from 34% initially to 100%). But if you're not into grinding feats, then good luck because it's gonna take a really long time.

  14. Agree, the black wolves become so easy to kill once you have a ranged weapon that they aren't even a threat anymore.

This is exactly why I actually prefer timberwolves since their behaviour is more unpredictable, making the whole encounter more challenging and less boring.

  15. I'll craft the satchel first, any additional moose hides I get will be for the cloak even if I'm not going to wear it.

Also honestly if you can hit around 10°C for windchill, you're more or less good to go. Anything more is a bonus but not really necessary as you'll still feel cold from windchill anyway on windy days with -20°C. Instead you can use terrain to plan your travel routes - instead of walking in the open, use hills and cliff sides to get you shielded from the wind.

Yeah, if every region contained 2-3 bottles it would be nice to do the run that way. Right now you might find 1-2 bottles per big region (some seem to have 0 if I'm right because some of those spawns seem to be totally random), if you are lucky, but there is still only 10 regions and I believe that the transition regions don't contain any. So it's really time consuming and impossible to get in 1 game. I think it could take 3-4 long games to get to 25. I didn't find any bottles in my long game in two big main regions ML and CH.

Exactly this. What's the point of spending tens of hours playing 3-4 long games to get 25 when you can do it in about an hour with scum starting 20+ saves. And to me, making 3-4 long games is no different from scum starting as you're still making multiple saves in the end.

  17. The thing is they should've made maple syrup slightly harder to find but still common enough to make it possible for players to get the badge in one run after looting majority of Great Bear.

If people have to do 2-3 long runs just to find 25 in normal game play, most of them are just going to scum start to get a badge that doesn't add any benefits other than just for prestige. It's just too time consuming and not everyone is that free irl to play the game 24/7.

You know what I think you're right...I found mine behind the toaster I believe...won't know for sure till I edit my footage.

Just found my 3rd in my only WE sandbox in the pantry at Paradise Meadows Farm.

I heard MT has a few guaranteed spawns as well so it's a good place to look for syrups.

There isn't a garunteed Syrup spawn in the Farmhouse...at least there wasn't for me.

I'm not 100% sure if it spawns there in a normal survival sandbox but there definitely is a guaranteed spawn in a WE save.

It's always in the kitchen: beside the toaster OR in the cabinet with the broken door OR under the table beside the 6 burner stove.

  20. I only had about 4-5 syrups after looting most of ML, PV and abit of MT in my first WE save.

Turns out it's much faster for me to get the badge by making 20 saves on PV start and rush straight to farmhouse for that guaranteed syrup spawn in the kitchen as loose item (no need to search cabinets), and restart the process. Took less than an hour as compared to potentially many days irl at the current rate of finding those syrups in a normal playthrough.

  21. Definitely voyager level on most settings (loot, wildlife, calorie burn during sleep/pass time etc.) with loper-ish weather although not a big deal as there are high end clothing almost everywhere. They even removed cabin fever now so you can technically just hibernate for the badge if you aren't planning to commit alot of time into this event.

  22. Since you already have archery 5, I'm assuming you're already used to the projectile drop-off and speed of arrows, so I would say the bow is better overall. Archery 5 makes it possible to stealth kill packs of wolves quickly which you can't do with the rifle, as they will be scared away by the first rifle shot.

For hunting moose, picking your terrain is more important than choosing between the bow and the rifle. Sure the rifle maybe easier to shoot from long range, but I've had successful moose hunts with my bow from unreachable position where I can aim for a headshot at the aggro'd moose just staring at me.

  23. Mapping a region used to be way more painful before Fearless Navigator update.

I'm not sure if you've found any polaroids yet but a single charcoal mapping action at the vista from a polaroid reveals a large portion of the map (close to half of the region) so it's always worth it to look for them, usually in corpses and backpacks.

Height of the spot that you're mapping on also accounts for how much area that is going to be revealed on the map so it's a good idea that you find a high spot before doing the mapping action.

  24. Some people are forgetting that this is a video game. They even say it in the disclaimer that "it is not a replacement for actual survival training or experience in the wilderness".

To me, it doesn't hurt to have a bit more control in game settings. They already have stuff like struggle options (click vs press and hold) and timberwolf morale bar (on/off) to cater to people with different needs so I don't see why not for the sounds too. It's an OPTION, so it's still a win-win situation for people who like it loud and people who don't.
