Late 2024? That's a three year gap between episodes and that's if we're honestly supposed to believe there aren't going to be any extra delays.

This old complaint again? Do people really not comprehend that Hinterland is a SMALL company, doing everything themselves? Three years is a decent amount of time for the amount of work they put into the story pieces - not to mention this is probably going to be a longer, more involved section, considering all they have to wrap up.

  2. But WHY with the deceptive title!? Now I can't tell if it's gonna be a happy ending or a depressing sad one LOL The "light at the end" has so many meanings! Why must you torture me LOL

You know you should be complaining too, we are paying customers and if no one complains about delays and lack of communication with consumers like us, then they will become the norm because game devolopers will think this is ok to do because no one says anything about them and will think that the customers are fine with unannounced delays that differ from the dates we are told.

    "Unannounced delays"

Pretty sure it's been announced. In this thread.

  4. LOL I said the same thing. Like... Son? You got a whole rifle on you. Shoot Vachon, then when his buddy comes out, you take HIM out, then you go inside, find Matthis and take him down.

But I think the honest answer why you DON'T do this is A.) There are a lot more convicts than the game shows and B.) Mack is the boy scout. He probably won't just shoot an unarmed dude, let alone three.

You were probably too busy ! Most people were😁

Did you notice the new deer sounds too?

Lol I did not. I don't think I even knew deer made noise. But I also play with the volume kinda low cause I get freaked out haha

The abject stupidity in this forum is mindboggling sometimes.

No, it couldn't be that the wolves were placed (in)conveniently in all locations you have to pass at least once or twice. It couldn't be the broken timberwolf behavior where they constantly change between being afraid of you and growling. It couldn't be that they don't roam far if at all and always camp in the exact same spot. It couldn't be that they don't occasionally de-spawn to introduce some unpredictability. It couldn't be that even if you kill them they immediately respawn. It couldn't be that the whole experience thus just felt extremely artificial and scripted, whereas in survival mode it's usually far more organic.

I mostly enjoy dealing the wolves in survival mode. But there wasn't a single instance in Ep 4 where I enjoyed an encounter with a wolf. I can handle them fine. It just wasn't fun.

I feel like it's okay to disagree with people without name calling...

This episode WAS inundated with wolves... But the context seemed relevant enough. Several times in cut scenes it's mentioned that surviving the landscape outside the prison was nearly impossible, because of the wolves.

I think it's less about whether or not you're adept at handling the wolves and more about how you're handling the landscape. I ran into four packs during the entire episode. Once when I was getting the medicine (this was a black wolf, who I accidentally shot in the face cause he scared me lol), a second time during my idiotic return from the dam (not realizing I could just use the door in the steam tunnels to get back to BRP), a third time near the southern farm ruins (this was the only instance where I had to spend time fighting them with flares/guns, instead of just scaring them off with my rifle) and the last, near BRP during the aurora (another black wolf). I found the wolf encounters in episode 3 to be considerably worse, especially during the survivor rescue quest and I found the bear in chapter 2 to be the most inane complication in the game.

Ultimately the wolves are frustrating, but I found using alternative routes near the water or the ravine and staying off the path to be the least complicated... Particularly during the aurora.

I know its not who McKenzie is but I thought it would have been a more interesting story if Mckenzie gave in to the wild and broke because he let it change him and him giving into it

As a writer, I can say I actually appreciate that the devs did NOT go that route. It is so imperative to a narrative that you maintain consistency and continuity with characters. Growth is fine. Flaws are also fine. Failures are fine. But ultimately altering a character's nature to the point you're suggesting would be so diametrically opposed to the narrative, it would absolutely have ruined the story for me. Mack is the good guy - the boy scout, as Matthis points out. Even at the end, he chooses flight, over fight, and this is very much a character based choice. He would rather protect Jace than take out a potential threat. It's also the reason he didn't just bounce as soon as Matthis's goonsquad let him out of his cell. He could've just wandered off, left everything behind and been safe. But he didn't, because he knew the importance of the case to Astrid and he's determined to see it through.

Him teaming up with a bunch of sadistic murders and probably worse would not have made any sense narratively - even factoring in the psychological drag of all he's been through.

Haha, it would give me great satisfaction to pepper spray a wolf in the face. Though I personally wouldn't use it much, on the off chance it did get added, it's fun to think of the torment that I'd put the poor carnivores, and moose, through.

And same with tazers. I could imagine sneaking up on a sleeping bear and just giving them the shock of their lives. (Pun intended 😆)

Lol. I feel like this game has traumatized us a little...

I also think it would be neat to be able to cook soup such as what Grey Mother made in Ep. 1. It is not necessarily a "luxury" food, it would actually be helpful and useful to make. Perhaps we could have some kind of soup that would cure cabin fever. It would definitely provide a warmth bonus. Maybe an energy bonus? If you can get quality food, maybe you could get a little extra energy from it.

    THIS. 100% This.

Of course considering I filled her fridge with dog food, expired goods and about 60lbs of water, I'm kinda concerned what that soup had in it LOL

  10. Actually, thinking along the lines of the OP... I wonder if you could have something like pepper spray or mace -- rare, obviously, but it would be interesting. Something used specifically in those moments when you're -being- mauled. A pepper-spray to the face for the wolf and he's not gonna worry too much about biting YOUR face anymore. Might also work on a bear if it's specifically a 'bear deterrent' variant.

Was out mapping PV came around a corner and there was  bear.  Charged me immediately managed to put an arrow in his head then got mauled.

Stand up grab my bow off the ground and he is back on me again. Survive the second attack get up and sprint away till I run out of  stamina. Get a fire

going and bandages put on and the bear comes back and hits me for a third time. The other annoying part is my Journal didn't save 😞 and I was

getting close to being done with Cartoghrapher only a little bit of PV and then BI todo  ARGH!!!!

That's tragic, and I am so sorry.

If it makes you feel ANY better at all, the first time I played Story mode, I got up to the top of the plane crash area and walked into my own campfire. So at least you didn't die in a really really stupid way!

No. You are trolling. I was contributing.
I mentioned potato spud and marshmallow guns.
What did you suggest other than arguing with me?

Well, if you read through the replies, you would see I made a few contributions, including one that would render the OPs suggestion useful. If you really think that Potato spuds and marshmallow guns are a valuable suggestion, you should make them in a new thread. Otherwise, that's just trolling.

But I'm not an admin. Do what you want. I wish I understood why folks like you would rather be seen as aggressive and disrespectful than someone other people could glean knowledge from, but there's no sense sneaking through a rusty gate. Have a good afternoon.

What you think is truly irrelevant to me.  I will decide what threads I do or don’t participate in. Thanks for offering to do that for me but I politely decline.

So you are trolling on purpose? Okay. That's all I needed to know. I just wasn't sure if you were doing it intentionally or it just came across that way.

Thanks for the support ,much appreciated.! But it's a waste of time talking to someone like that!

Yeah. Haha. The mom in me tries to appeal to people's decency, but I'm starting to realize you gotta have some, for that to work. Clearly Lord won't be satisfied until he's been ignored by everyone on these forums, and it's a shame, because he probably has some credible ideas, but no one will be able to read them.

Ummm the OP said it was silly. Several times. I fully agree so I put all silly stuff in the silly suggestion thread.
      It’s courtesy.

I mean... you're clearly just being passive aggressive and disrespectful about it, so... I don't see much of a point. Seems to me, and maybe I'm wrong, who knows... but it seems to me like you're trying to bully or shame the OP into thinking the way you do, and honestly? That's probably the silliest thing I've ever seen anyone on these forums do. Shame that you'd rather waste your time doing the unconstructive thing like trolling other people's threads, than actually trying to put out good ideas.

  16. 6 minutes ago, Lord of the Long Dark said:

I did. I kept it separate from the silly ones though since my ideas in that post are legitimate such as friction fire. Slingshot.  Stuff like that.

I don’t want to mix it in with silly thread topics like sausage makers, tasers and Marshmallow guns.

Nothing I do is without reason.

Seems pretty without reason to respond to this thread at all. Just saying. You made it abundantly clear you don't like these types of threads/ideas, so why contribute to the conversation? Why not just move on and enjoy what it is you -do- like? Kinda rude for you to continue to poke fun at and disrespect other people's concepts by calling them "silly" or suggesting they're at all less legitimate than your own.

They should add a potato spud gun.  And also a marshmallow cannon.  Actually a pistol and rifle version of each.

Why not make your own wish list post?

I think that play style works for any difficulty.  I'm an Interloper player and tend to do the same thing.  Once I'm over the hump of getting the basic things I need, I settle in and just hunker down in one place until I get bored with it, then go somewhere else.  Monolith Lake in HRV is one of my favorite places.  I love spending time in that area and was just there for maybe 20 days.  When I start getting bored, I think of the other regions and there's always one that I'm excited to go or return to.  I'll gather what I need to survive for a day or two and leave everything else behind.  Some people are good with keeping notes about items left around the world, but I'm terrible at it.  I enjoy coming back to a place I haven't been for a while and rediscovering what I left there.

I've mapped all the locations in my current run, so I'm working on mapping the remaining "dark" areas of the map, trying to eventually reveal as much of each map as possible, but I'm in no hurry to do it.  I like the slower pace and just enjoying the view.  The game is absolutely beautiful in so many ways.  I love starting the game in the morning and sitting by a fire at the mouth of a cave to watch the sun rise, just listening to the crackling fire and sipping my real life coffee.  Or taking in a brilliant fire-in-the-sky sunset.

I think I tend to have one or two favorite places in each region.  I'm with you on the lighthouse in Desolation Point.  It's especially amazing during an aurora.  I mentioned Monolith Lake in Hushed River Valley.  In Mountain Town, I waste away a lot of days around the farmhouse.  In some regions, my favorite area is based on the view - Foreman's Retreat in Ash Canyon, Deer Clearing in Timberwolf Mountain (nice open area with a fantastic view of the mountain), Jack Rabbit Island or Misanthrope's in Coastal Highway, and the Hunting Lodge in Broken Railroad.  I also like the coziness of Angler's Den in Ash Canyon, Trapper's Cabin in Mystery Lake, Cannery Worker residences in Bleak Inlet, caves in Winding River and the Ravine, and even the farmhouse in (Un)Pleasant Valley.  From the shades of blue in Coastal Highway to the shades of yellow in Forlorn Muskeg, there's always something to just enjoy and for me, it never gets old.

That's actually really refreshing to hear! I've encountered a few Interlopers whose attitudes tend to be ride or die, no camping, etc. It's really nice to find an interloper player who appreciates the beauty of the game!

Like the previous poster (I can't figure out how to tag that tricky name haha)I'm more a fan of the camp cabin at ML. Trappers is wonderful but I think playing story mode made me salty towards it, after getting locked out haha.

  19. So, to start, I'm a scrub and almost never play on anything but green mode, so this is definitely not going to be a hardcore survivalist conversation LOL. One of things I enjoy the most about the game is the different modes for different play styles, and one of the things I enjoy the most about green mode is the ability to really delve into 'camper' mode. I have spent days in one single location, scouting, mapping, hunting and gathering, then bundling everyone up and heading off to the next section of the map. My goal, eventually, is to start in HRV and make my way through each area, ending at Ash canyon. But I'm curious where folks favorite places are to make camp or drop supplies for a bit.

I'd have to say my all time favorite location aesthetically is the lighthouse on Desolation Point - there's something about it that just feels different than all the other potentially places to stay, and I absolutely love how the storage is set up. Biggest issue is there isn't a lot of supply/hunting opportunity on DP, so I usually only head there after a few days of meandering along Coastal Highway.
