I know this is an unpopular opinion, but if bugs bother you then just wait for hinterland to finish the game before playing. I am still waiting to play story mode, and I will continue to wait until a number of months after the final episode so I can play it in its best state.

I am still waiting to play baldur's gate 3 too. They're on like patch 30 now of bug fixes so it will likely be a while yet before I buy it.

Lol I'd have been waiting over 8 years then. This is not the solution.

yeah, a book by a nice cozy fire and a cup of tea - if they could somehow really add an appropriate classic, like Robinson Crusoe, or Lord of the Flies - I might actually read those again.

I did suggest the option. Someone else (maybe you heh) suggested classics that no longer have monetary holds to actually read in game. But, I'd also be fine with being able to warm up in a bed or bedroll whilst repairing clothing.

But yeah, classics for reading would benefit me irl as well.

I think this is a misrepresentation of the facts, this is not out of the ordinary for Great bear rather an extension of themes central to the game’s identity. The story of great bear is in two parts one of desecration and exploitation of the natural world and the consequences of it and the other a scientific phenomena either studied or caused on the island [...]

I completely understand what you're saying (but seriously, that is one epic run-on sentence!).
But, 5 years ago, the game was 99% natural. It was a survival game that they had to put the disclaimer on, because I suspect it actually could make people think "this could happen in real life, and this could happen to me too!"

I am saying, that was the appeal to the game. Even the Wintermute storymode additions did not challenge that -- the survival mode's auroras gave no explanation, but it wasn't exactly unthinkable as to why the critters went wonky/feral, especially during auroras.

But, add in zombie wolves and try to justify superfund-esque sites, which have been around for years (sketchy superfund sites, not zombie wolves) and yeah, bad things have happened from them. But I did not originally fall in love with this game because it was a "left 4 dead" base-building crapshoot with zombies. Most of those superfund sites are still around irl, and no one's all wonky crazy about them these days (aside from the activists and politicians, and anyone trying to tie this to the Simpsons episode with Blinky). Plus, that whole concept wasn't around for the game until about a year or year+ish ago when they were hyping the TFTFT. (Correct me if I'm wrong, as I haven't been keeping up with the Milton Mailbag for about 2 years now.)

So, no, I do not buy your posited explanation for a game that should have been a survival game, and one I fell in love with for being mostly realistic, instead of basing itself off of some fantasy type of genre. I'd say apocalyptic, but it was a perfect apocalyptic game (for survival mode) from the start, but now we're beefing up the cryptids and weird unrealistic stuff... to appeal to folks who can't just appreciate strolling around and dying to bears and wolves and cold, and okay maybe the aurora made them a little crazy...

this may be an unpopular opinion here but i dont like the direction of this update.  i think we suspend belief quite enough already with aurora wolves etc.  now we have zombie poison wolves and specific gear to only combat that?  i was hoping this would go a more primitive direction that the game built its success on.  more crafting options and bush craft.  the graphical stuff sounds great but this update further alienates a 2015 player

I'm going to dredge this up because I completely agree with this sentiment.

Don't get me wrong, I'm super thrilled that the devs are still putting out new and exciting content, but I also feel they've completely taken a different fork in the road than what I feel the original game presented.

I suspect that they've swapped over to "keep putting out new and different and extraneous stuff to keep the people with 100 games in their libraries playing regularly or at least having them check back in", which I understand from a business perspective. But I'm siding 110% with @odium on this one. (And, I'm newisher... only been playing since mid '16 :))

  5. Rezzing a necro thread again. I can stop... but seriously, please let us have this?

I would simply like to have a personal "leaderboard" just for myself where I can see all my challenge best times. As it is, I cannot see any challenges' best times until I complete them... and honestly, I absolutely love the challenges because it introduces basic concepts and learning maps and techniques you might not necessarily understand at first.

(I seriously learned TWM and DP because of Hopeless Rescue, and also was blown away at what coffee can do! The included challenges are being superseded by nogoa and other online gamer type challenges, I suspect because you really don't have any proof of completing.)

  6. So, I am somewhat active on the Discord for TLD (which is completely unrelated to Hinterland whatsoever), but we get a lot of new folks joining asking about the Epic version of getting stuck on the loading/warning screens.

I own the game on Steam, but while I had the brief issue (might have been based on the fact that I play on Linux), things were sorted out quickly. Hinterland, could you please state if this is an Epic issue or a Hinterland issue with which you're working with Epic?

I've been trying to point out links here, but there have been folks who can reinstall, or uninstall DLC/start the game/reinstall DLC, and various other workarounds that only sometimes work. I have recently been suggesting everyone submit a ticket, but if anyone official could posit a response more so that would exemplify what to do, that'd be GLORIOUS! :D

  7. This game got me through trying to finish up a degree before I hit age/level 40 back in '18. I got the game in '16. I was just okayish with survival games, but they usually had zombies or aliens or something unrealistic. Granted, TLD is unrealistic as well, and I hate the cold...  but as I was at the time living in Texas, I could more easily a cold-based game.

Now I live just a few hundred km southish of Toronto (though, I love Vancouver!) and we have winters here. And I don't like those. But, this game became my survival game and made me realize I need more of these (only closest thing was FC3, though I really like that stupid helicopter option in FC4)...

Seriously also, I swapped to Linux over 3 years ago and every issue I've had they've addressed with curiosity and interest to help that swath of player types. For that, I have been super appreciative. And, I've also not had any issues based on the OS for just under those 3 years!

Sardines have a bit of a bad reputation… mostly undeserved, they’re pretty good in real life 😋.

I love herring/kippers; they're basically the same but without the nasty amounts of salt.

I ate a 6+ year old can of beans last year... so that's not on my "no no" list haha.

I'd probably say "it's okay because it's TLD" is the number of pelts I typically have lying around. Would be a little too close to Jame Gumb.

We want to re-open the store just as much (or perhaps almost as much) as you want to visit it! We are working on making some adjustments, and we will have more news to share in the future. In the meantime, we are actively working toward re-opening it, and our community will be the first to know.

This makes me more excited than any of the TFTFT update stuff! Thanks!

So, how would you feel if it was possible for major landmarks/shelters to be either smaller, different, switched, or even completely destroyed?

That did kind of happen to me: one of the updates destroyed the lookout tower in ML. They added a second, intact one, but that was definitely mind blowing when I'd left the game for a few months, then came back thinking I'd gone insane.

Lmao I wrote myself an auto-click script mapped to the E key, to make life easier when picking up massive heaps of sticks off the ground. I've gotten so used to just tapping E instead of using the LMB to click on objects, that one time when I went to light a torch I pressed E and blew through two entire cardboard matchbooks in about half a second.

I absolutely save-scummed that one, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. That was dumb.

Thank you for giving me a chuckle moment.

My wish is that you don’t stop.

I would like to second this. Thank you all you devs. You're likely overworked, and there are a lot of folks upset at recent bugs and whatnot. But I would also like to state that we're still playing the game, and we appreciate your bug squashing and angry-player tolerance.

The kind of reading that the survivor does in TLD is more studying than just reading, that's how I justify not being able to read when afflicted.

@Leeanda had brought up having other (non-study) books to read to pass time as well. I can see not studying while afflicted, but if they had extraneous books, it could effectively pass time... if the actual player wanted to actually read to pass time.

    @Asinine

So is the idea to be able to read while taking advantage of the bed/bedroll warmth bonus?

Obviously! If I have to warm back up, might as well read a book while doing so.

The idea of extraneous classics would be fun too, though I'd likely skip them after a while. Might give more to do for those folks who continue past 500+ days.

In regards to the whole cooked meat becoming 1kg, like I mentioned the other day. I did however notice that the calories are off and don’t stack with your level. Venison for example only 800 calories compared to 1000 calories

Interesting; I had just started a stalker run two days ago until the missing containers/corrupted saved issue was rectified, so cooking was back to 1. Good to know!
