I don't expect the trader to set up shop anywhere... in fact I am hoping he isn't static at all.. more of a nomad like we are and you may or may not run into him anywhere at any time on any map.....

I have found it once... the abandoned prepper bunker on the ridge behind the Camp Office... end of the Lake Trail

as someone who has owned lots and lots of guns and tinkered and modified them... gunsmithing in of itself would be a massive undertaking... not a skill you just "pick up"

I'm interested by what the 'cheat death' penalties are- I'm guessing some sort of permanent affliction such as frostbite or loss of buffs to start with, then building up to things like being unable to run, raging thirst etc. by the end.
I'm guessing you lose gear and pack contents... like say 90% of what you are carrrying...seems fair

I have played The Forest, Stranded Deep, both Subnauticas...and not mentioned but I think a good survival crafter was 7 Days to Die.. All these games though have an antagonist, or antagonists which is what makes the Long Dark unique and all the more enjoyable.
In my backlog and as yet unplayed is Green Hell...which I am told is more Long Dark'ish in a jungle setting... I may have to give it a whirl soon.
I have always wanted a Long Dark roguelike in space so to speak..start with nothing, craft or build anything you require from minerals or your crashed vessel and survive, no antagonist, no drama... just survive

Hinterland did a great job of modelling the look and feel of this space... this photo is of the Britannia Mines Concentrator..

I think they are referring to the concentrator.... its an incline gravity mill, raw ore comes in at the top and is ground, pulverized to powder and then separated... at the bottom it is readied for transport to a smelter

I've also played it. I want to continue playing it, but having to continually manually drive through the same zones to get to the farther zones is kind of putting me off. I wish there was some sort of fast-travel to be unlocked after you've cleared a zone. I know, I know, TLD doesn't have this but the atmosphere of the TLD makes it enjoyable to stroll through the same zone after the 1000th time
it is a driving game... its literally in the title
later on....not quite fast travel so much as faster travel... if you unlock the Junction Bypass you can skip zones

I've raved about this on other platforms, but if you haven't checked out PACIFIC DRIVE, you should. There's a lot of TLD in there, and I can say this confidently because the devs told me so. 😅 That said, it's very much its own game, and really compelling.

Really good dev team with wonderful folks, and backed by Kepler Interactive, a really good publisher also run by friends.
already 100% completed it.... LOVED it...

And yes, there was sarcasm in it, which is part of humour after all. People who know me know that dry sarcasm is a big part of my humour.
I think sarcasm is the height of humour.... many would disagree, but they would be wrong

I also tend to wander a lot....but home for me is and has always been Overlook Cave...across from the Camp Office,
- fishing and hunting close by
- rabbits, ptarmigan and wood at your door
- access to the workbench in the Camp Office
- no cabin fever, lots of room to leave loot
- a spectacular view
- 2 containers for small stuff you might misplace, the locked loot box once unlocked and the unfortunately dead fella, is it wrong that I use him as container..? I'm going to hell aren't I..

I like this idea... scratch that... I LOVE this idea..tying it to the randomness of the aurora makes it much harder to abuse or get used to
