  1. yes,notes are nice addition.
    but these encyclopedia books would be just for info,some lore and some collectibles.
    there would be not time passaging other than how much game goes on when you read...so no skipping time.
    i forgot one book that would be useful,it would be book about mountain climping and maybe if read carefully,you could find few tips here and there what you need to know when start to climp.
    i just want that i could have some info to gather in gameworld other than take my phone and seek the answer from long dark wikipedia or reddit.:)

    if you go look reddit,steam discussion,hinterland forums,there are hundreds of questions about items,mechanics,cave systems,animals,meat decoys...
    -not sure how it would work that there would be no-more info in workbench that how much ingredients you need to make something.
    all info would be in books and you just have to remembering it.

    it would be just awesome to find out info ingame.
    also community could also take part via books like poetry,jokes,food recipes,old photoalbum.

  2. add readable encyclopedia books about the game mechanics and items but with also non relevant info
    in not usually check from internet info about game and items but today i just went and read about go energy drink.
    what i thought that maybe add books what you can read while in game.there is no skill points..only info.
    in books there could be also info what is  not relevant but written in encyclopedia style.
    like in first book below could be mentioned how large is island,,how many people there live,
    principal industry,famous people etc but some infos would be used in game if you read it.
    Most of the text could be non relevant cos we dont wanna reveal all the important info,its game about exploring.

    Encyclopedia book 1:

    Geography and history of great bear island:
    chapter one: geography( info about the world and some useful tips about some regions and their connect.highest top,biggest lake etc.
    chapter two:History(info about early days of a great bear island,about workers and some important buildings


    Encyclopedia book 2:

    Wild nature of great bear island:
    chapter one: Animals(info about animals what lives in great bear island,also info from the animals what you can only hear(ambients)
    also info how animals live,eat,sleep etc)
    chapter two: From mountains to shores(Info about general nature like,is there sea and name of it,what trees there grow,what plants,mushrooms,rose berries,typical rock etc

    Encyclopedia book 3:

    the arctic doctor:
    chapter one: diseases and medicines(info about ,diseases,medicines(more than game have,like viruses,bacterias,polio,diarhorea,aspirin) but also info all around for diseases what we have in game
    chapter two: first aid(info about injurys,accidents)

    Encyclopedia book 4:

    Into the wild with raphael
    -book about surviving the wilderness
    info about clothing,temperatures,herbs,weather and how to deal with it,traps,hunting,crafting.also some general info about been in wild,non relevant...book would be very rare special item.

    but you get the idea...different books what you can read.
    -handyman book:wheres my tool
    -cold jokes:Community jokes gathered inside to the book
    Dinner time:recipes

    some books would be added straight to the game but some books would be added like eventstyle(gather them when you can)

    with books,you could take some info off from the inventory tab...like how many hides or guts you need to craft something

    I normally play Stalker or Interloper; currently doing another Interloper run to get the "Will to Live" achievement, I didn't realize until the holidays just passed that I hadn't played any one save beyond 300 games (I find it gets too grindy-boring-easy after a certain point, and just quit then start anew). I think I'll do a custom run with mods, never tried that yet, haven't even looked at those settings.

    im in middle of stalker run now but gonna try mods and start custom run after stalker.
    just curious how you would put your game towards more realistic?
    i guess that i will keep the original idea of apocalypse in place but just try to tweak game more slow and a bit more relax.
    main threat would be maybe coldness and storms.

    VOIP MULTIPLAYER
    we know that pure multiplayer or co-op is not gonna be thing in long dark cos of game systems,like sleeping,time skip etc...

    but what if we just connect two players voips in game when specifig things have been filled?

    like,  you have to find radio transmitter..(usually broken so need fixing)
    need to be in specifig place with it to transmit your voip.
    need aurora to work.
    timewindow for conversation would be like 1 to 10 minutes.

    its like,two people in different countries connect in silent apocalypse,just to exhance few words and then aurora stops and...
    "call disconnected"

    (yeah,i know that this is maybe impossible to make but would be fun)

    so got this idea in multiplayer thread.

    you spawn in world as a first survivor. 
    there is no frozen npc corpses in world(not yet)
    your only task is to survive.
    you can write journals,leave notes in places of your adventures,create your own survival hideout with your stuff...then pack of wolfs attacks you...you fight for your life but your body becomes frozen corpse near miltons church.game over.

    then spawns next survivor in random place...he starts his adventure...now he can find first corpse at the church,or find first players notes,journals,hideouts...
    but he dies also.

    then comes next survivor and next and next and next...and after some amount of players,someone is last survivor...when he dies,group sandbox is over.
    its not coop,its not multiplayer...players never play same time....

    of course,there gonna be notes like...sniff my pants or some sort of that but for more adult and more serious gamers,would be something with the interaction:)

    how this go technically point of view...maybe impossible:D

    so after every survivor,the world is little bit different place...ofc loot would be default at start for every survivor but additional loot would be in different places...
    ...few notes on tables,notes on on dead survivors backpacks...
    it would be so fun to find previous survivors corpse and took the loot,read notes...buffer memories would be also player made then. 
     

  5. okay...i started this with my  brother and we do it in finnish language but i thought that i share this in here.

    game is played in custom setting what i choose.
    here it is:

    and why only for players who writes journals in game?(you can play also without writing anything):D
    because... i add next a list about the words or phrases what should be included in your journals from the third day of your gameplay ingame with my setting
    but first we go with 10 words...if someone is lunatic enough and write...i put another 10 words
    here it is:

    DAY 3=basketball
    DAY 4=frost
    DAY 5=ice cream
    DAY 6= bacon
    DAY 7=Elvis Presley
    DAY 8=piano
    DAY 9=wolf
    DAY 10=some dude named Raphael

    if you wanna share "the days" in pictures here,it would be fun to read it.(or write it here)

  6. i have tried also look something like this, also been played with custom settings but not sure how i would set everything.
    but for start i thought that maybe some magnetic storm fits in my play,that nature is more colder...
    and needed to think how i end up in great bear island and how long is from the time when people lived there....that kind of sets how much stuff there is anymore left in buildings.
    also im thinking to set time multiplayer to a bit slower than vanilla cos im slow writer...but not sure if time is paused when write journal.

  7. this idea just pops back to my mind after seeing some long dark related pics in facebook.
    maybe this idea would be in long dark 2 or even brought to long dark 1 with new game mode.
    but it would be needed to cut the whole great bear island to half...another player lives in other side of the map and another to opposite half if wanted to prevent

  11. yes....like multiplayer but for just  max 10 minutes with voip
    moment to talk with someone at the time of aurora.
    maybe something wonderfull people would be to get connect to each other until..

  14. always disable it because(i really dont how it works even)...but if you suffer from cabin fever and its force you go to deadly blizzard....something is wrong with system.
    maybe cabin fever should be tweaked in future that if you clean your base,put candles,make decorations with (guitar,harmonica,some books in shelf,candles,new box of playing cards,etc)its very minor that you have cabin fever that house...its like it feels more "home" to you

    For the jokes...maybe add ice skates?
    For the question what i have....
    Have you thought about drying firewood inside houses?
    Maybe drying firewood would give you more heat and better starting change?
    What about lean-to structures? You dont have it in Canada?...in Finland, those are everywhere.
    Thanks for the game, its best survival game in genre and we are really enjoying it.

  16. This custom challenge is partly for fun and partly serious attempt to developer team to change plastic bottle mechanic in game.

    Start custom survival and select interloper settings.starting area as desolation point.
    rifles on if you want.
    your task is create plastic bottles many as you can on little island near Riken.
    canteens,thermo bottles and persistent bottles should be added in game for players to find.

    At starting notes,hinterland says that it doesn't tolerate any violating of nature but...
    lets pollute the shores of desolation point.
