I'm creeping up on day 40 . . . might make a new survival save for the sole purpose of exploring the muskeg, or I might do it in story mode, but there's no way I'm putting my current save's life on the line like that.
I like the idea, though.
I did that, my first excursion in. I started a new Pilgrim game in ML, looted enough to have decent supplies, and headed off to FM. I ended up dying from a "fall from great height" when I fell through the ice near the edge of the map and the game helpfully relocated me to the top of a cliff on the border without room to actually stand there...

I have no interest in abandoning my base to put my life on the line trying to find a hammer and brave the muskeg just to forge some stupid arrowheads
Brave the Muskeg! I've been spending a lot of time there lately, and it's a wonderful place. Sure, you'll die lots of times, but eventually you start to get to know your way around.

That's an unreachable ledge, or at least I couldn't figure out how to get up there. Alas!
My bear was just at the flat area at the top. It took some creative shimmying up the angles in the rocks to do it. But I didn't have bear quarters scattered everywhere to contend with.

This is the ledge of rock just above the woodshed across from the Trapper's Cabin. Going to be a bit tricky getting my arrow back from this one!
I had a bear die up there too. It's possible, but not easy, as you've discovered.

True, but wolves don't go around attacking humans either, so there's a balance of realism and also a balance of gameplay. I love the idea of a doggy sleeping bag! lol and heck that's another good aspect! Doggo temp needs to be watched also! Maybe you can fabricate a Doggo sweater to keep him warmer! (adding a crafting idea)
If Hinterland adds deerskin doggie booties, I'm quitting the game.

Green, glowing eyes? Turns feral? I'm not sure why dogs wouldn't be affected like the wolves are. That could create an interesting dynamic and dilemma for the player.

What would happen to Doggo during the Aurora?

Everything... it's like being in a group of seven painting, the artwork is fabulous... the gameplay is engaging.. it is my new favourite game by a longshot... oh and the Canadian Flag everywhere ..
I had never heard of the Group of Seven, but I just looked up their art. You're spot on. I wonder if they were a direct influence on the game design.

Procedurally generated maps of course would be the best but player made maps is probably the next best thing! Great idea imo.
Actually, I think player-made maps would be better, at least if there's the ability to create and customize locations. Knowing how many people on these forms think, I have a feeling there would be a lot of interesting and evocative places to explore. Procedurally-generated might be good too, but I'm afraid they would end up being repetitive — lots of the random trailers and cookie-cutter houses with predictable loot locations, fewer Trapper's Homesteads and Katie's Quiet Corners.

That's a nice shot, @HighwayBill. I'd ask where it was taken from, but instead maybe you would want to add it to the "Where in the World is Will?" thread?

I just bought the game. Didn't saw one of those yet
Welcome to the forums then, @Biofobico, and have fun. And stay away from the aurora wolves.

No zombies or mutants!
Just the occasional mindless glowing aurora wolf, of course.

I've been wondering for a while, don't wolves and bears eat the food you leave you?
If they did, you could just sit on that porch and take pot shots at them all day.

+1 A harmonica would be great. Finally I could pretend to be the Bob Dylan of the apocalypse!
That would be awesome!

Or how about musical instruments? A guitar that you can find somewhere. The more hours you put into playing it, the more you level up your skill, the more it helps to reduce/combat cabin fever.
The game needs more small but interesting ways to kill time.

Heck, you could add special books that are read for that sole purpose instead of leveling a skill.
I'd love to see more books in the game, even if they serve no other purpose than this. At least allow us to use random books to pass the time before they become fuel.

Even when on break, we've still got a few people around to make sure players are looked after. We love you guys too much to disappear entirely!
Admit it @Mel Guille, you drew the short straw, didn't you?

Last night I experienced my first aurora on survival mode while on coastal highway. Thinking about what might be the neatest place to visit, the lighthouse came to mind. I wasn't able to reach it before the aurora disappeared, and I wondered if anybody had seen it. Does it light up?
No, unfortunately not. But it would be neat if it did, with a full sweeping light effect. The lighthouse is still a pretty neat place to see the aurora, though, what with the splendid view.

"To that extent, the entire team will be taking September off to recuperate."
Enjoy your well-deserved rest. You've made a great game.

The quiet apocalypse
While the game can be very intense, it's also the most relaxing game I ever played. Building up a collection of firewood so you can just sit by the fire on stormy days. Spending the day fishing in your cozy hut next to the stove. Spending a bad day keeping your tools in good condition and crafting gear. Everything just falls away and you make do with what little you have, and it never disappoints me.
This. I love the quiet isolation, and the fact that it's always challenging but rarely rushing at you — with those occasional sudden bursts of action being that much more exciting.
It's a game for introverts, and I love it.

Change Display Name?

I was wondering if anyone knows how I can change my Display Name here in the forums.
I’ve been away for a while but I’m getting back into the game. I’d prefer not to create a brand new account, but using this name isn’t going to work anymore.
