  1. Hi alla!

Indeed, like @De00061 says, it now seem to work correctly again. I had to quit streaming many games (using the Unity engine) for a long while, but now I am going through the titles again using the Steam Streaming function and 5 games are now working again, including TLD. Happy times!

I did not do anything but I guess the updates, perhaps both on Steam side and game-side (win10?), solved it. I will also let Steam staff know since I have a ticket with them as well.

So, to the Hinterland team @Admin, thanks for investigating a hard issue that solved itself over time. I hope it stays like this ;)

  2. I have now been in contact with Steam support regarding the Remote Play issue.

They are unable to help since it is such a "strange" issue and does not generate any error codes. With Win10 and Steam pushing out updates all the time, I fear this issue began with the latest win10 update. For some reason (x-box support crap?) the mouse control drivers/libraries went bad 2 weeks ago. I do not think it has to do with TLD. Or any other game. Same issue can be seen in many other games while using Remote Play.

Thank you for reaching out. Hope nobody else will have this problem (I guess De00061 is out of luck too).

  3. I came down a steep slope, found a railway track, followed it. The game performance was as horrible as my survival skills. It was snowing, it was dark, it was cold. I died on the tracks while seing lights in the distance... To this day, I have no idea where that was... or what game mode it was (beta I guess).

  4. Thank you Admin, I have now reported via zendesk.

As I reported, there seem to be an issue with Steam stream in combination with Unity, especially with how radial menues are implemented. When leaving 3D to interact with menues overlaid on the 3D world it starts to break down. Alt-TAB restore it but just briefly. Exact same thing happens in Green Hell, House Flipper, Tank Mechanic Simulator just to mention a few (also Unity-based).

Hope it gets resolved, really miss sitting in my comfy chair steam-streaming my favourite game. Labour of Love nominated!

  5. I once lay by a mountain creek listening to the water endlessly streaming over rocks and plunging into the valley. 3 days from any civilization. In that sound carpet I heard trains arriving at central station, I heard people cheering at the beach and I heard calls and chat at the food market. I sometimes hear similar things in a blizzard in TLD. Brain keeps playing tricks on me... even in computer games. Or is it real?

  6. It is most likely an issue related to Steam Streaming (to other plattforms, i.e. my laptop).

I tested TLD on my PC and it was fine in terms of mouse control. I then also tested several other games using Steam Streaming to my laptop (The Hunter CoTW, Duskers, The Room, Da Vinchi, Doorkickers 2) and there was no mouse problems to be found there. Is this then something that need to be adressed by Hinterland so that Steam Streaming works or is it solely on Steam?

Thought you need to be aware (if not already).

  7. I have never ever had any issues with TLD whatsoever (since beta).
Suddenly, I can not draw my bow using mouse left click.
A bit later I can not open or close doors with my mouse. Not pickup stuff.

If I go to options and set mouse options to something slightly less or more sensitive and return to game, it works for a while again. Then seems to bug out once again. If I repeat the process going into options the mouse come back again and bow will draw, doors will open and I can place objects as ususal.
Mouse seem to work in menu until last time, when even the menues did not work.

To add to this, I updated my MSFS2020 where Asobo messed up mouse control + all peripherals in that game. As closely tied they are to Microsoft (windows) I was wondering if their incompetence could actually affect other games or steam streaming services? To the degree that even TLD is affected?

In MFS2020 they forced us to use Touch controllers (as a VR flyer) and that turned the whole sim upside down. Not even when I removed my batteries and removed the Touch controllers from the Oculus rift Dashboard config did the software work - it crashed instead. I notice when shifting to a Steam stream, Steam suggests that some games can make use of Touch controllers and that is a very worrying message... in this context?

I am amazed as to what just happened? Anyone else just updated MSFS2020 to Su7 and have similar issues with mouse control in TLD/other games? Or could it be a temporary Steam streaming issue (running the game on one PC and playing/visualizing it on another?)

  8. I like the idea of some kind of camera, or rather something I suggested previously; sketch tool using charcoal.

Instead of a camera (or both) have the ability to make a sketch of the landscape (same/similar mechanics as mapping). The sketch can be included in the diary or notebook somehow. Or as a separate album where 255 characters are allowed to describe each sketch. We would have illustrated diaries... :)

    Example below

I play custom, turn wolf population down to low, crank the damage they can inflict, and set wolf fear to max. I also set animal detection to very far and scent factor to maximum.

I set all other animal populations to either Voyageur levels or max.

This has a few effects. It makes wolf encounters much rarer, because there are a lot fewer of them. They are unpredictable because they will be pulled to you if you're carrying smellies but will often run away after they become aware of you, esp if you have bear coat and bearskin bedroll. When they do end up getting inside your defences and tangling with you, then it's far more serious. Encounters are rarer, unpredictable when they do occur thanks to the wolf fear factor, so the tension remains high.

In a lot of ways I'm trying to make them like bears but with decent chances that they won't attack you because even when their population is set to low there are a lot more of them than there are of bears.

If you have smellies bears will detect it from amazing distances and come looking for you.

Bow hunting deer will be more challenging as they will be pretty far away from you when they scatter.

This will also result in animals interacting a LOT more than they do in the standard modes, which opens up many more opportunities for an enterprising greenhorn on GBI to thieve fresh deer off wolves by scaring them away with stones or whatever... because yes, if you bounce a rock off Fido's noggin while they're chowing down on a deer they'll run. The animal interactions can also result in animals moving on from their spawn locations as deer flee chasing wolves or they all run from mr bear and migrating from their spawn positions.

I have spent a fair chunk of time over the last year playing with the custom settings to make the game a little more unpredictable, and this seems to work pretty well... and given that the wolves can kick the crap out of you if they /do/ catch you it highly motivates careful gameplay esp in the early game and makes animal encounters of all kinds much more difficult to predict, esp wrt where you have them... but also lets you off the hook enough to keep it interesting.

AFAIK this is the closest thing I know of to what you're asking for.

Many thanks for your outline/setup! I will def. try it.

  10. I was looking for the exact same thing. I would like the wolves attack me at a rate of, say 10% of the encounters (if I approach them aggressively). It would introduce an uncertainty that is now non-existent with the binary options we have (on/off). Perhaps there is a combination of difficulty level, equipment (clothes) and situation that can produce this effect already? In the "decoy category" one could make use of 2 cans/pots by banging them together to scare of wildlife...

    Need to investigate!

  11. Yeah, my diary is good for keeping track on where I have stuff (inventory, safe-houses, routes etc). There is also the "single-page" notebook where I keep essential notes on what to do next and what not to do, lol. Wish Hinterland could implement a mechanic to draw sketches (from a screendump) to include in the diary.

I do think I also have Mending left to level up, it should be on high 3 (skilled) now so with many more cosy indoor evenings I should be able to become Master mender! :).  Just need the wood to keep the light on and the food to last. I'm on Voyager, not too hard, but for me a decent challenge (in a relaxed way now after first 50 days of struggle). Good luck you too!

  12. Hi all!

Just a casual discussion if you like!

I enjoyed Episode 4 and now I'm back on my survival (day 395 or so).

I love this game, taking my time and enjoying the shifting conditions, art and audio. Now >300 days in on this session, I keep a diary from day one but do not take notes every day. Far from it, but probably have entries every  week or so (oh how I wish I could export the diary to a *.txt file). It becomes a very immersive game - creating your own story. Nearing Master skill in all categories, I was thinking the goal (end-game) would be to have 5 in all categories. Has anybody else had this as a survival goal? Or just push days until death?

I could probably survive another 200 days on my gathered resourses without risking too much, but leveling up the rest (rifle, revolver, bow and smithing skill) will force me to think again. A perfect carrot!

  13. So again, trying to get into the workshop. I start to wonder if I really have triggered the things I need?

I have the Communication report saying the Code 154 should be used down at the workshop. Is there anything else I need to go about?
All good all lost fellows on Bear Island!

  14. I got sick and tired (litterally 😄) when waiting it out close to the pier. Had my base over at the cannery cabins (fish available). I did take a trip to Forlorn around day 16-17 just to see if I could trigger the aurora coming back to the Inlet. But not so. Yes, I have the code since day one waiting. There must be something else I'm missing or a bug - or just plain unluck with the skies 😉. I sort of stopped playing survival now because I'm getting frustrated by the door with the code-lock. I think I have now 80-90 bottles of water sitting there at least 😂.

Some  day I'll get back into the Cannary and hopefully be able to unlock the door.

Thank you all Gents & Ladies for feedback! I'll hang in there a bit more, before I move on to another area (giving up on Inlet).
