  1. @Admin I really hope they don't overdue it on the Safehouse Customization. Like, I'd hate to be able to just make a workbench wherever, as it impedes needing to roam from place to place in order to stay alive. Also, with the Trader, I hope they don't add actual NPCs into Survival Mode. I've mentioned before about how I love the games "Haunting Loneliness" and how it made for great, contemplative gameplay. Anyone feel the same? I'm sure Hinterland knows what they're doing tho, as I've been skeptical of other gameplay additions but they've almost always proved for the best. Also, sooo stoked for the new Electrostatic Fog!! Looks sooo cool! And I love any new Aurora phenomenon in game ^_^

I play on PC and found that initially the saves would take little time.  As the I progresses through the game, the save times seem to take noticeably longer.  The longer the game is played the more that has to be saved.  That probably won't get shorter the longer one plays, the more areas explored, and more stuff acquired.

Lame 😞 I never seemed to really notice until the recent Survival patch. I doubt it's something they can fix, but it'd be neat if they could. Thanks for verifying

CH Mine is the only place I'm aware of where you can get "trapped" (due to the elevator needing to work).  Once the others are open, they stay open.

There's a working elevator in Coastal Highway during auroras in Survival Mode? Really? I've put hundreds of hours into Survival and never knew that 0.0 I'll havta brave that one of these days. Thanks for letting me know! I usually avoid the Wiki, as I don't wanna be tempted to peek at any maps or spoilers lol.

  4. Heyo, anyone notice the Saving time in game taking what feels like twice as long since the Blackrock Survival update? I play mainly on Switch btw, and exclusively (so far) in Survival

Hey ! Almost a year after but you did it !

The last patch allow us to configure how gyro work without modifying the stick setting. And it's a million time better ! Thanks for that.

Now there's still some option missing to make the gyro 100% efficient. That is a option to allow for "yaw/roll" gyro meaning we could use our controller gyro (now the gyro works for a handled switch, not docked with a pro controller, it's a different gyro axis that is used).

And also make that the "aiming" button (L2) works when you don't hold a weapon, so we could use the gyro also when aiming at object or anytime we feel like it, not only in combat (i know we can have it "always on" but it's not ideal neither if we don't have a way to disable it for repositioning the device when needed).

I have no idea if you guys read those comments, i admit i was a little bit "bitter" to see no answers from you concerning those demands since last year, but i'm pretty happy to finally have this patch (i'm a patient gamer :3). It's a shame cause it would make TLD experience so much better on switch. Hope you read it and we'll have a way to fine tune our controls on this version to.

Hey man, thanks for pointing this out!!! I couldn't find the Switch patch notes, so would have never even known! Much appreciated :)

Likewise!  Didn't notice it for the first  few days, but after that I started noticing a few new things . Most on the inventory and one where I couldn't pick up a book in a car! I needed that one as well cos I'm on a new run!🙂

Glad I already have the faithful badge or I'd be really peeved!

Same! On a new run and I couldn't grab a Stay On Target, which suuuucked. But with the team working on bringing Blackrock to Survival, I know they'll have their hands full for a bit, so I dont mind being patient as they squash those bugs. I'm a Survival player, and am soo hyped for that! And wondering what this *New* Item they're going to add is fun ^_^

Not on switch but having the same problem! Quite a few people are!

Aw man, sorry to hear :( I know how annoying that can be, and I'm a veteran player. Must be super confusing to any newcomers. Hopefully will be patched soon. Thanks for confirming :)

  8. After having stated my absolute love and adoration of this amazing game, there is one thing I'm hoping to see more of, and that is "aurora interactions". Other than the collectable notes on computer screens, the only real gameplay mechanic of it ,aside from the agitated wildlife and making the flashlight usable, is the new electronic gate to the Cannery (an AWESOME idea ^_^) and am hoping to see more of this implemented. Especially at the Prison, that would be wicked! Or even going back to some older maps and maybe adding some? Like being able to use the elevator at the Hydro Dam? Just some thoughts. Even without anymore added (and if there are in Story, no spoilers please! I'm waiting for full release on that, thank you!) the game is still the coolest survival game ever, and my favorite all around :)

  9. I see some people bringing up Raph mentioning the "completeness" of Survival Mode, and begging to differ (politely, might I add. Amazing community all around) but I honestly see it this way as well. Yes, the AI might not be razor sharp, but the mechanics and gameplay as a whole sure are ^_^ I love the game as it stands, and believe adding things like NPCs would kinda ruin the amazing sense of oneness the game provides. It's a beautifully haunting loneliness I've never seen evoked from a game before, and would hate to see that tarnished. I would of course love more Regions (who wouldn't, right?) but overall, I'm happy to see the progress they have made over the years. While I may have been skeptical of a few of the updates concerning gameplay mechanics, they won me over every single time.  Sorry to ramble, I just love this game soo damn much. The survey was a nice touch too! Thanks Hinterland!!

  10. OMG Darkwalker sounds amazing!!!! I hope that if its popular enough theyll just make it a new Challenge. But seeing as they havnt done so with 4DON I dont see that happening. Still excited tho!!! Gunna have to play on my X1 and Switch to unlock Endless Night in Custom (Awesome add-on btw). All in all, shaping up to be a damn fine update!

Well, a few of these changes have been suggested on the forum, such as map marking:

and a list of mapped locations:

I can't find the thread right now but I know at least one other forum user has previously mentioned wanting the ability to map further but in less detail from vantage points, which seems to be kind of implemented now.  It would be interesting to know whether this is just forum users unknowingly discussing what the game developers are already planning, or if there is any element of Hinterland using these suggestions as a basis for update content (obviously a lot of other factors must go into the decisions of what changes to bring in).

yeah, upon further reflection I see how I was worried about nothing, and seeming kinda douchy whilst doing so. Its just hard not to worry about changes to an already awesome game, but Hinterland are no dummies. They know what theyre doing, and I just gotta trust em. I didnt outright delete said post, as other people seemed to agree at the time, and I still see where they are coming from, but they just gotta do as I do and trust the professionals :)

I agree- it being hard is a core part of the game. But as they've added maps (& timberwolves) the game gets harder (more to memorize). So mapping improvements balances that a bit.

And really, these markers don't REALLY make the game much easier. You still can't find the markers without being in visual range, so you could have used dropped sticks & stones or just awareness of landmarks to accomplish this. The marks appearing on your map is nice - but without an arrow on your map showing where you are, you still need to go visually find them.

This is a shortcut for players who make heavy use of the journal ("Bear west of double rock north of farm") vs just spray painting it now.

I don't see how this really makes navigating much easier if at all. More of a memory tool. Plus the added weight you now have to carry.

very true. and people were already using sticks and rocks and such as trail markers, so upon reflection i do agree that it is kinda nice. I think my post came more from just worrying about nothing (and it kinda seems like, after re-reading it, that I come off as an asshat. so apologies to any newer survivors) Its just easy to get nervous with new additions to an already great game

Keep in mind, once a game is already out for a while, it becomes harder to bring in new players. The initial wave of TLD players had very few maps to play in & learn. So they were 'eased in' by virtue of having few maps.

New players like me have a huge game world to learn & we don't have everything memorised like players who came in at the beginning. So an update like this helps ease new players into the game by making navigating a bit easier. Updates like this help keep it balanced for new players.

I get that, but the whole point of the game is that survival is hard. Its a hard game. I dunno, I dont want to sound like im "gatekeeping" or what have you (Like when "Souls" players bitch about new players wanting the game to be more accessible. those people are kinda dicks) but its just easy to worry about change when its something you really like. Like I said, I seem to be in the minority on this one, which is fine. I am glad if it brings more people to this awesome game. Im just adverse to change I guess. Still have nothing but love for Hinterland and all the survivors on here :) I hope you are finding the game as amazing and breathtaking as I did when i first jumped in (still do of course, but nothing beats the first time youre dropped into Great Bear) ^^

Same. Who really asked for this? The game and its systems are already fine. Just give us more maps :/ Sadly, kind of a mistep in my opinion. Quit making the game easier. Sucks that with every update I have to worry about if new stuff will break or just fundamentally alter the game :(

In all fairness, I do see many people do like the changes, so I guess im in the minority. And I know you dont have to use any of this, but still, just my opinion. Also, if you cant do this stuff in Wintermute, its gunna seem really odd :/

I think this is a wonderful approach.

Indeed. Im sure itll be all good ^^ I just get worried around update time sometimes yknow?

I'm definitely excited for the coming survival update, and very grateful that those features already spoke of will be options for gameplay.

    Thank you, Hinterland. :)
I'm really looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us.

Guess we'll have to see what they mean by "navigation tools" and how optional they really are. I just get nervous when they add new mechanics to my favorite game. And getting lost and/or turned around in the wilderness is the best part!!! I'd honestly rather get new maps than mechanics in my opinion. Anyone agree? Then again, I think the game is as close to perfect as can be already. But as I said before, ive been skeptical before about new things, but Hinterland has always delivered amazingly

  18. Gotta say, im kinda nervous about the new "navigational tools". the whole point of TLD is how amazingly easy it is to get lost, especially in bad weather and blizzards, and that would defeat the purpose quite a bit :/ ive been skeptical of other additions in the past, and theyve turned out alright, so heres hoping the same. And do they mean "optional" as in you have to run a custom game and turn it off, or just one of those lame "if you dont like it, dont use it" kinda things?

I could go either way. The current meter has never bothered me. One of the reasons it might be this way is due to the fact that their morale is highly variable depending on size of the pack and difficulty settings. In Wintermute, near the end of the chapter, there's a moment where a large pack attacks and their meter fills up most of the bottom screen.

Perhaps that could affect the speed at which the meter drops? I dunno, just like spitballing. and TLD's minimalistic UI is always been a huge draw for me,
