You can know what you like, and you can dislike what you see, but I don't think you can claim to know what has made the game successful.

the game that i played in 2015 and fell in love with, the game that captivated millions of paying players allowing development to continue.  that game didnt have zombie wolves and imaginary fog.  i dont even recall aurora wolves being around that far back.  i will always play and love TLD but it has grown away from the core primitive survival game it began as, i dont see how you can dispute that

    Erm...I'm a 2015 player...and I'm all in thank you very much.

2015-16 is when I started playing...and I'm loving the new elements just as much as the old. Can't wait to explore the Zone of Contamination.

However I also understand your position and can see why you're disappointed in the upcoming Tales December Release Direction.

I hope you give it a fair shake.

we dont all have to agree based on when we started playing.  my point was, the game that i fell in love with 8+ years ago is really veering away from what made it successful.

i have no intention to stop playing but the newer regions and content hasnt hit home for me.  the glimmer fog is another example.  to me its cheesy contrived difficulty.  i prefer to be challeged by scarcity, weather and other realistic natural challenged

  3. this may be an unpopular opinion here but i dont like the direction of this update.  i think we suspend belief quite enough already with aurora wolves etc.  now we have zombie poison wolves and specific gear to only combat that?  i was hoping this would go a more primitive direction that the game built its success on.  more crafting options and bush craft.  the graphical stuff sounds great but this update further alienates a 2015 player

  4. i was really miffed by the huge delay between PC and console release, that felt really bad as a console player to have all the new content spoiled for months before even getting to taste it.  now that the two have been brought back even i am not bothered by the future delays.  i didnt think the 8-10 week cadence sounded feasible from the get go so i prepared myself to not see that.  i also dont have enough plsying time to even get to the new maps yet so im basically set for content through the end of the year. the $20 is inconsequential to me, i would gladly pay more for the countless hours i have gotten from TLD over the last 8 years.

  5. very pleased to see tales added to loper!  i see them more as a late game challenge that i will tackle once I am totally geared up.  will provide something meaningful and fun to complete when runs go into the hundreds of days.

  6. How are yall fairing for loot on interloper?  I just got the update on xbox and have made 3-4 interloper starts.  I hit all the usual suspects and am not finding hacksaws or hammers.  I found one hacksaw total, and thats across PV, ML, CH, DP, TWM and FM ( I didnt hit the summit though).  I know the loot tables were refreshed and I like the new hunt for tools but I'm wondering if they just sprinkled tools randomly in all new locations or where people are having success getting the good items.  I will say there seems to be way more canned food on loper and an unusual amount of spray paint cans which I don't even bother to pick up.  Flares seem to be way more rare as well, I used to count on those for early game fire. Matches do seem to be increased though, I am averaging 2-3 boxes in the first 3-5 days of the run.

Well, I can see how a greater variety of hide clothing could be all right, and doesn't have to make stuff easier; instead I'd be interested in seeing a greater variety of hides being able to be used for different items (i.e. deer, wolf, bear, moose coats, with different weight/temperature/wind/encumbrance characteristics, like a new deer coat that is relatively light and doesn't encumber very much but is only +2C for warmth etc, perhaps coupled with a greater variety of daytime temps). The idea here is that you can wake up to a relatively warm morning and take a risk of wearing less clothing while doing a task outside such as ferrying that moose meat back to base, but if you get boned by a blizzard showing up you can get into far more serious trouble.

The trick is to make it about tradeoffs like I can carry more per trip but if a wolf comes along or a blizzard blows up it can become far more dangerous for me. The tradeoff is by cutting down on the number of trips I'm also cutting my risk of bad situations, but making the outcome of a bad situation happening worse, if you follow my reasoning on it.

i suggested something like this many years ago, ability to craft and repair with multiple hide types.  or even modify a certain type with other pelts.  for instance, rabbit line a bear coat or deer pants for extra warmth.  or repairing a torn wolf coat with a deer pelt.

So that's a no! We don't even have part one yet!

I have a fools hope that they drop 1+2 for console together to get us caught up.  it seems like that would be the best long term option to please a large console fanbase, especially if they intend to keep this format for years to come.  otherwise I think console players will begin to tire after having all new content spoiled and dangled in front of their faces for a month, multiple times a year

"Near future" can mean a month... or two...

Even if they were to announce something this very evening, there would probably be a couple of weeks gap to it being released anyway (based on their releasw history)

I also have hard time believing they would release the Patch 1 Console updates AND Patch 2 simultaneously, but instead there would be another wait

I could see that happening and i hope it does.  It would feel very bad to be consistently lagging behind PC updates throughout the whole year.

  10. for me, surviving loper means have a good plan in the first 2-4 weeks.  you have to know where to look to get the tools you need, mag lens is essential.  i always started in FM, tons of cattails and theres usually good tools.  hit the main spots and book it for ML. Loot the major spots and get some saplings drying.  stabilize a bit and jump back to FM with enough coal and metal to make a handful of arrowheads.  head back to ML and craft your bow and arrows as well as starting on crafting clothing.  i ride out ML til i have some decent clothes then move to CH for the easy bears.

i made it over 400 days in loper without lighting a single match, all about managing time wisely and ALWAYS light a fire whenever its free (sunny).  make torches, tea, water, cook meat, just always take advantage when you can.  as others stated too you really only need 5 cattails a day for a while so get used to starving, and use your condition as a resource.  you can starve and freeze quite a bit in return for progress

Still, you can grind through a lot of in-game hours in a fishing hut with a door as long as you bring a supply of fishing tackle and wood with you since each hour of fishing is sped up (as in passing time).  it's a great way to get your blizzard walker feat at the same time since it is considered to be outdoors yet is sheltered so that your fire will never go out.

If the fire is burning, the door makes no difference!

mending is the hardest for me.  im not going to burn cloth on loper just to level a skill

  12. Coastal Highway all day!  Best mix of every resource in the game.  The only thing CH lacks is warm non-loading screen caves for CF.  But as long as you get on a nice fishing regiment, you will never see CF.  Lots of houses to loot, beachcombing, easy bears, major coal in transition cave, easy navigation, access to indoor forging in DP.  Thats my loper addiction, I stock CH with enough tools/supplies/food to last 1000+ days.  its also fairly central for 'vacation' travelling

  13. trappers cabin is the best imo if you intend to survive off rabbits alone.  put 10 on the hill behind the cabin and another 10 down in the grove by the bear.  easy 6-8 rabbits a day and its a very easy path back to clean and process them.  travelling with rabbit carcass is very risky.  they are heavy and quickly put the smell meter up to 3, pulling in wolves from pretty far away.

that being said, it is very tiresome in the long run and not very productive in interloper to exist on rabbits.  takes too many calories to process and gather them, also doesnt have the CF killing benefit that ice fishing does.  i typically keep 10 snares in my fishing camp hut in CH and run them up the hill to the clearing near the bear spawn.  i run them for a couple days to get 6-10 rabbits, keeps my guts and pelts stocked up.  you can be generous with the repairs on your hat and mitts because they are so easily replenished, and for such a low cost.  guts repair the snares and create the fishing line for repairs.  all it costs is a few calories and the wear and tear on hooks

  14. Awesome update, so great to see a developer take input from the buyers enjoying their projects.

the survey was a great idea!  i would love to see, (and happily pay for) any survival related dlc.  the only thing i wasnt able to clarify in the survey is; as much as i would love TLD dlc, if that prohibits progress on a new game i dont necessarily think that is best.  in my ideal world we get continued survival paid dlc while a new survival based game is in the works.  i would love to see a similar type open world survival game with maybe a pacific island stranded vibe, deep jungle amazon etc.  i love the narrative that survival mode creates thru roleplaying as the player, and personally i could endlessly play these types of games as long as fresh content keeps coming in!

  15. i do wish cattails/plants respawned over some long period of time.  not because i want the game to be easier, its just fun to collect and hunt resources.  i particularly love getting cattails, they are the ultimate food source
