Can't fire bow while crouched?

I thought it was a glitch, when I got my first bow I drew it back to see how to aim and relax. I had used the rifle before so it was similar. When I went on my first hunt a deer was walking towards me. I crouched and moved in closer very slowly. Tried to aim when he got close but it wouldn't. Didn't realize at the time that you can't fire a bow while crouched but I could with rifle. As soon as I stood up the deer detected the movement and took off. I hope this isn't by design?

This is by design. You can't draw a bow when you are crouched. Killing a deer with a bow isn't easy task, but it can be done. You have limited time window to draw and release a bow after standing up before that deer is spooked.
