Deer runs into a tree and gets stuck

I have found a few reports on animals getting stuck in various situations; here is another one.

A deer ran away from me and probably hit a tree head-on (I did not see that). I walked away out of sight, far enough for it to calm down. When I returned a few minutes later, it was still running, stuck at the tree. It appeared to keep switching between two directions but could not break free, even when I closed in.

I did not try killing it, my freezer is full.
