Recalibration of Dropped Sticks

I know in most regions when you drop a stick it will always point north when compared against the published maps with a couple of exceptions. Has there ever been any discussion about making this universal? I feel like the easiest way would be to make the sticks all drop north using the in game charcoal map, which I realize would render the out of game maps less useful. But I feel like if you have this mechanic of dropped sticks always facing one direction then that should be a useful navigation tool which doesn't require memorizing which direction it is in each individual region.

I think it's an exploit that should be removed, not pushed further. Seriously, if Hinterland wanted to add a compass, they would do it properly.
The dropped items should align with the direction you're looking, not the north of the map. This would make placing items easier, and you would have to actually find your way, when you're lost.
