How do I give back the coat? I did what was asked but I cannot seem to give it back.

After repairing the bearskin coat, I believe you just need to take it back to Jeremiah.

 

When in his cabin, talk to him, then chose 'Story > Survival School > Survival School: Clothing' I think it is. He'll take the coat and then you can progress with other survival school tasks.

 

Atleast, that's what I think I did.

 

If it doesn't work I'll review my recording footage and find out for you.
