cannot enter sandbox mode

i have been having a problem where i will start up the game just find go to sand box mode chose starting location than when choosing gender i get a little pinwheel for a few seconds than it disappears.... and nothing happens I'm just sitting on the pick gender menu please help

UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "C:\Users\nate\AppData\Local\Hinterland\TheLongDark\user001" is denied.

check and reset the security settings on folder "C:\Users\nate\AppData\Local\Hinterland\". (or just run game throught "start as administrator")
