Sometimes games aren't deleted?

So.... as I understand and has happened so far, if you die, you die. Permadeath and you can't restart that play because it is deleted. 

But I died  one time in a game I had 45D going from sleeping in the cold (which was pretty much suicide on my part as I was already dying so I made things faster).

Basically, I died, got out of the game, went back in another day, and I find that my game wasn't deleted and I could enter in it from the last point I saved (next to a bed). 

I fear I got killed by a bear afterwards and that death did work and deleted things, so i can't say much about that play
