  1. Hi all, For those of you playing on Xbox like me and occasionally experiencing a failure to save (the hatchet icon in the lower right corner not popping up), there is a way to force a save, which I discovered accidentally. I'm not going to say it's foolproof, because I'm no expert in these things, but I did test it 10 times before coming on here to talk about it. This worked for me 100% of the time, but it might not work for you. A couple weeks ago, my game failed to save after sleeping, and I was about to force quit from the Xbox menu in a rage. However, right before I hit "quit", I noticed the little hatchet appearing on top of the pause screen! I was very surprised... I exited and reloaded the game to check: my progress had been saved! So here's what I would recommend for my fellow Xbox save bug sufferers: always keep an eye on the autosave icon, and when it doesn't pop, hit the Xbox button, wait a couple seconds (the icon should pop almost instantly), then quit the game and reboot your console. You should be back where you left things. I also tried a few other times to continue playing after a save hiccup without rebooting the console, and it's been fine, but because I'm paranoid I personally prefer reloading... just to be on the safe side. Now there's a whole other issue somewhat related to saving that I've been experiencing: sometimes, when you attempt to exit the game from the pause screen (where it says "back to game", "badges", "options", "quit"), selecting "Quit" will bring up the confirmation box as expected, but when you try to click "Yes", the game freezes, preventing you from interacting with it in any way other than from the Xbox menu... and when you relaunch the game, it erases the last successful save and takes you back to the previous one. I am POSITIVE that none of my saves had failed, since I always watch out for the icon. It's a separate issue, it seems. I do have TFTFT installed, and this may or may not be caused by the DLC, but it should be noted that this issue has happened to me on various older maps as well as newer ones in the Far Territory. I also found a workaround for this new bug (not as well-tested though, I only tried it once today): instead of quitting the game "from within" as you might instinctively want to do, just quit from the Xbox menu. It worked fine for me, no progress lost. I'll continue testing it over the next couple weeks, and I might post an update. Thanks for reading, hope this helps someone else!
  2. HI, I'd like to follow up on this, in case anyone reads this and avoids Blackrock because of it: As it turns out, the Blackrock prison gate is not supposed to be a save point. It's just a transition, like going from Broken Railroad to the Far Range tunnel: you'd think it would save the game, because you're going from exterior to interior, but it doesn't. I've successfully reloaded a save from within prison grounds after going through the main gate, plopping my bedroll down, and sleeping. That's all!
  3. A few details before I start this rant: I play on Xbox series S, and I own both TLD and TFTFT as digital copies of the game - apparently the digital version is buggier. Also, I submitted the following as two separate bug reports earlier today. So, the save bug that was introduced with TFTFT on Xbox was gone... until a couple days BEFORE the Buried Echos update. I was on day 444 with my current Stalker character, had been playing almost every day for the past month or so. The game failed to save after getting injured by a wolf (I've been religiously checking for the save icon anytime it's supposed to pop up), so I naturally brought up the pause menu, and clicked "Exit game" so I could reload. I got a screen freeze on the text window "Are you sure you wish to continue?" with the Yes/No choice - could not interact with anything. I force quit the game from the Xbox Menu, restarted my console, and reloaded my save. Turned out, the system had erased my latest save, the one right before the wolf attack, and taken me back to the previous successful save. It happened again under different circumstances (entering a building): saving fails, I go to quit the game, screen freeze, force quit, and reload to find myself one save behind. Now this was all BEFORE the big Part 4 update. I'm wondering if perhaps saving becomes more unstable as the save file gets bigger (I'm trying for 500 days here), but that shouldn't be the case. In any case, I'm giving up on this character until this issue gets fixed. Now, when Buried Echoes came out, I rushed to make a new character so I could experience the new area without risking my old save. I was expecting some bugs, but praying for saving to go smoothly. I went a couple real life days without experiencing anything negative, and was feeling pleasantly surprised. Now I'm at the edge of the pit, I've started exploring inside the Mainframe and Concentrator buildings, and I've had two separate instances of the exact same issue described above - one time the game did not save while sleeping, and the other time was another wolf attack. Both times, the latest successful save was completely deleted. Both times, I got a screen freeze while trying to exit. This makes gaming much less fun. Auto-saving is a basic game function that should be a given. We shouldn't have to replay the same game day twice because of a save fail. I feel very disheartened by this. And then, there's this game-breaking problem: I tried to enter the Mine from what is seemingly the main entrance (center of the pit with polluted zone) twice, and twice the game just booted me out: there was no loading screen, just a black screen for a couple seconds, and then I would find myself staring at the Xbox Home page, with TLD having fully quit by itself. The first time I thought it might have something to do with me wearing the Respirator, so I removed it before entering the second time, but the result was exactly the same. So far that part of the Mine seems to be a no-go. Anyway, thanks for reading. I'm curious to hear whether anyone else has experienced this on Xbox. From browsing the forums, it seems at least PC players have been able to enter and explore the Mine. Is it just me ? I'll be taking a break from TLD for a while, but I'll pop back on every once in a while to test things out. It's really too bad... except from these two major issues, this update has been great. I love what little I've seen of the new region (interesting map design), love the tiny starved wolves, and of course, the new first-person hands are awesome! Also really excited about Scurvy... If any Devs read this, I of course, as always, want to thank them for creating this gem of a game, but I'd also like to beg them to prioritize fixing this save bug! It really is a big turn-off. Have a great day/evening, everyone.
  4. That's really interesting. I didn't know there were more issues with digital... which is what I have. I play on Series S, which doesn't have a disc slot. I guess I'll just have to avoid Blackrock for now, unless I'm specifically trying to test things. Thanks for your reply!
  5. Hi all, I just looked at the Xbox Build Status page, and noticed the autosave issue had been removed from Known Issues. However, I'm still experiencing it, and given the amount of Reddit posts on the subject every week, I can see I'm not the only one. So I thought I'd post on here and share my experience with the community. I've just submitted a similarly-worded bug report. I've played on every difficulty except Pilgrim, with both male and female characters, using a different set of perks every time - none of these factors seem to affect the bug. When I first noticed this was happening, I decided to pay extra close attention to "checkpoints", and here's what I can discern as far as repeatable patterns: -Firstly, the game always saves while sleeping and waiting at least an hour (unless there's been a missed save point previously, and the console was not restarted, nor the game fully exited through the Xbox menu). -Secondly, the game always saves upon getting an injury (or parasite risk, or a condition like hypothermia), unless there's been a missed save point previously, and the console was not restarted, nor the game fully exited through the Xbox menu. -Finally... the absence of an autosave seems to be triggered by entering certain types of buildings. I've narrowed it down to Trailers, Cabins (including Trapper's once, but mostly unnamed ones), and Blackrock Prison Grounds (see below about this one). I've never had an issue with Bunkers, Houses, or big industrial buildings like Hibernia, the Main Hangar, or the Dam. The trailers seem to be the worst, but that may just be luck. And I wonder... could this bug be in some way related to the "wrong location name" bug ? It seems to be mainly cabins that are affected by this (like Draft Dodger's now being called "Fishing cabin") - not trailers, but although I haven't experienced this personally, I have heard of a teleportation bug related to trailers. Now, about Blackrock Prison... the problem gets worse. In my main Stalker run, I've had to put the run on pause altogether, because I just cannot get the game to autosave at all while entering the prison grounds from the road (main entrance). Since the autosave problem is still ongoing, I've found a few little workarounds to avoid losing hours of gameplay: I give myself parasite risk, try to get a sprain, or, most often, just put down my bedroll next to problematic checkpoints. I sleep an hour, then enter the location, and if the game doesn't save, I fully quit the game, restart my Xbox, and try again. So far this has always worked for me, sometimes taking 2 or 3 tries, but never more - until Blackrock. I have reloaded and restarted probably around 40 to 50 times, and have a 100% failure to save rate. The prison grounds are just not accessible from that door. Granted, I haven't tried entering from the other side (Steam Tunnels), nor have I tried with a different character. I probably will at some point, but I feel a bit burned out at the moment. I'd be interested to hear from other dedicated players who have also been paying close attention to when the game saves or not. Have you noticed similar things? I'd also like to add, for any TLD devs stopping by and reading this, that even though this specific bug is highly irritating, it doesn't affect my neverending love for this game. Never have I fallen so hard for a game before. I'm glad I spent my money on TLD as well as the TFTFT update. Cheers to the team for their hard work. You've created an awesome masterpiece that is helping me through some really tough times in my life right now. I just really hope the save bug gets fixed before any further Parts drop. Thanks for reading, all! Eyda
