You mean Great Bear Island's location?  Sure, that's certainly possible too.  We don't really have a canon source to know where it's geographically located... just that it's Canada.  🤔  That's a fair point also.

maybe just video game logic? darkwalker magic?

...we also don't really know the full situation following the "First Flare..."

I don't think we even know for certain what it was in the first place (sure, most educated guesses look towards the Carrington Event - but orders of magnitude more severe and with lasting effects)... we don't really know for sure.

It's entirely possible that the event has affected/impacted climate as well as the power grid.  It's admittedly a bit of a stretch just to explain a foundational design choice... but who's to say that First Event didn't do more than just effectively EMP the planet... perhaps the boundaries of the polar regions have expanded to encompass so much more of each of their respective hemispheres.

This might very well explain the perpetual winter.

Again, yes... that seems a bit of a stretch, but that's MY headcanon anyway.

my guess is that it's up in the same latitude as Greenland, where it's just frozen year round

How would that work with the 'world gets colder over time' setting? I suppose if the seasons work by a simple temperature difference from the 'master' temperature, then every season gets colder and colder, so after a few years, summer would be as cold as the first autumn etc.

that's what i was kinda thinking

I know there's a bug with the notes and keys themselves but I don't think there's an issue with the actual loot .

There are a lot of flare guns and shells around since the update though so I'm not surprised you found more at the lookout tower.

i know, it's just really disapointing that i wasted my time and a stim to get three flare shells

also the tower was before the cache

  5. gotta say, at least for me, falling. i keep deleting saves (because i forgor) but the few times i've died, i'll list here

    dying in my sleep: 1

I slept in Carter Hydro and died

    killed by live wires: 1

I slept in Carter Hydro, woke up to an aurora, stepped on some wires, and burned to death.

    falling: 2

I accidentally jumped off the cliff next to the waterfall in Ash Canyon

I walked onto a slightly lower level of ground in The Ravine and got hit with the killbox

However you define "stress" in the game, what is the area you feel the most relaxed (least amount of stress)?

For me, I believe it's the Ravine.  No predators, plenty of game, wood, birch bark and caves.

the giant cliff waiting to consume you and end your massive run:

also, my least stressful location is probably the poacher's camp in forlorn muskeg. i know it might sound crazy to hear someone say that they find any place in forlorn muskeg to not be stressful, it's just that, for me at least, the poacher's camp is the staple of any of my forlorn muskeg explorations or startings.

  7. i found a note in the ruined lookout in mystery lake about a cache with ammo, so i went to the place. before that, i went to the forestry lookout, and found a flare gun and seven flare shells. i didn't have enough stamina to climb all the ropes, so i used a stim. when i got to the top i found three flare shells! THREE FLARE SHELLS! remember how i said i got seven shells from the forestry lookout? btw, this was voyageur.

  8. it's me, the darkwalker guy! i know you didn't miss me, and you probably forgot i existed, but i'm back! anyways, i've got an awsome idea: seasons. now, before you go angrily reply "tHis iS a wInTer SurVivaL gaMe!!!1!!111" i already know that. my idea is actually really simple. there's a 365 game-day cycle. at the start of the cycle, the air is slightly warmer than normal, that would be summer. then, it goes to fall, which would be standard temperature levels. then, it becomes winter, where it's slightly colder than normal. it then goes to spring, which is just fall, and it goes back to summer. the map doesn't change, and it's still freezing outside, it's just that it's less freezing in the "summer" part of the cycle and colder in the "winter" part of the cycle

Here's my very rough "map" for Great Bear Basin. It's hand-drawn and not exactly to scale. It's also missing a lot of things. Map making isn't my forte, but it should give you an idea of how I see it. 20220711_190747.thumb.jpg.e59a630545506745ad62e888a5b567b5.jpg

Yes, very rough, low-quality map. Definitely not WAY better than anything I can draw and can’t POSSIBLY be INCREDIBLY cool. It is just not ANY of those things.

    Playable Zone/Food for Thought

the IDEA: Natural Disasters and Global Warming have decimated Pleasant Valley.

    Here is the scenario ...

Pleasant Valley has transformed into an arid Desert due to the super-massive eruption of Volcanoes .. at was once known as "Yellowstone National Park" in the USA. The event has triggered other Volcanoes around the World to also erupt. As a result .. Earth has become an unhospitable environment. It is virtually unsurvivable.

The Sun is twice as large as it once was. Annoying crickets and locusts buzz at the dry and stagnant air. There are NO clouds and very little moisture. There aren't very many areas for shade ..

Tumbleweeds, cactii, sun-burnt silica and harsh dry winds .. fill the environment.

However .. due to a huge release of "Primordial Radiation" ..  engineered by Scientists seeking to save mankind .. Pleasant Valley has recovered quickly and is NOW teeming with dangerous insects, poisonous reptiles, and venomous snakes ..  Scorpions, Tarantulas and  Armadillos too. Psychotic Armadillos. Psychotic Rabid Armadillos from Texas .. that also happen to be tasty and nutritious .. IDK .. maybe? So anyway ...

An oasis fools Will MacKenzie into thinking he can survive ...

And so .. discoverable items allow Will to dig a well for water ...

Ok so maybe this isn't a NEW idea .. but I am NEW to the forum and really just wanted to post something to break the ice .. or maybe just melt it!

No, technology is gone. This is a winter survival game. Stars can’t get bigger because volcanoes explode, and it the sun doubled in size, everything on the surface of earth would be vapourized. Radiation can’t be “engineered” because that’s not how it works. Radiation is just unstable atoms releasing electrons, protons and neutrons to become more stable, and since when was Yellowstone National Park in Canada?!

Nope, not your device's fault. Privacy settings on the Google apps default to private, so the OP probably just needs to make the slide public

Idk how to do that and when I try to make it so anyone can use it, it just doesn’t work so yeah : /
