  1. I have now passed 200 days on my current stalker run. I am at 217 days as of the last save. I am hoping to make the 500 day mark. I am in HRV at the moment and am having a good time. I really like the way it is laid out.

The only thing I have not done is make ammunition at this point. I have the code and all required materials at my main base.

Just dont need to cause I have 44 rifle rounds and 117 pistol rounds still. I think I have about 23 arrows as well at this point.

Trying to get better with the bow cause I kinda suck with it. Alright that's not exactly true, I completely suck with it.

  2. I have had mine for about 60 in game days now. I believe they are still in the 90's as far as condition goes.

I have been able to climb ropes at half alertness that in the past I could not. While climbing I rarely if ever have to stop on a ledge to regen stamina. (Playing on stalker difficulty)

The real beauty is that's just half the bonus of going to AC to get them. Right next to them is the tac pack. That extra 10 pounds of carry weight is amazing. You really appreciate it if you happen to lose the well fed bonus.

My only regret was waiting till day 150 to go get them.

  3. I have faded into the long dark due to this mechanic. It was a 150+ day stalker run. I went to sleep in a hunters blind with something wet. I believe it was my satchel.

That said with 32 deg above clothing (as the OP did) I would try not to sleep outdoors at all. I was at 51 deg above with a bearskin bedroll and still died.

Respect to you OP for not giving up and keeping the run going.

I hail from both Maine, and New Hampshire.

I hail from NY (Long Island) but my parents were both from Maine. They moved back there after retirement. Such a beautiful state. Was just there a week ago visiting with mom for the weekend. Sanford/Wells area.

I'd love to go back to Timberwolf Mountain, but my survivor just got back a trip to get the satchel from HRV, and before that I had been in Ash Canyon... I really want to go to the coast and finally get to Coastal Highway and Decolation point, those are the only regions I haven't been to. After than I'm for sure going to summit again, well... As long as I survive The Long Dark.

I ended heading to DP instead of BI. I now have a very nice lighthouse base there. Just finished going thru Broken Railroad as well. There were a lot of wolves there. It is my favorite map now actually. Only places I have left to visit are BI, HRV and AC.

  6. When you first begin playing TLD it definitely can seem that the scent detection is OP. It did for me as well. I learned that carrying meat or guts/hides around should only be done to get back to your home/base. You can just leave it outside in the snow right out front of your base (meat that is). Just grab a steak or two when you need and cook it up in the safety of your base. The hides and guts just leave on the floor inside to cure.

Try not to bring meat out with you for the days adventures. You can eat cat tails if your in a pinch throughout your days adventures. That and you can usually scavenge enough food in houses and stuff for the day. This is the food you should be bringing with you when you go out for the day.

The bottom line is this game is super heavy on resource management. Food is one of them. As you get more time in the game you will learn all the best ways to do this.

I can tell you first hand that it is well worth the harsh learning curve when you first start playing this game. It is one of the most relaxing, exciting, terrifying,  frustrating and rewarding gaming experiences I have had.

As well this community is one of the best if you have questions about anything game related. Or if you just want to share a story from your time in the game.

Almost forgot this, lighting a flare or a torch should keep the wolves at bay giving you time to get where you need to be. Always have one ready if you can. Just don't get to close to them.

Good luck out there..... you got this.

  7. My longest run so far has been 167 days on stalker. I went to sleep in a hunters blind with wet clothes, blizzard moved in and faded into The Long Dark.

My current run on stalker is now over 100 days and I will be trying for the 500 day milestone.

  8. In PV just before the transition to TM there was a moose and a bear walked right in front of it. They were about arms length away from each other. I crouched and waited to see what would happen. Sadly bear just trotted on by on his merry way.

  9. I did not bring it all down. I took what I needed and noted what was left up there. I took the following:

    84 matches

    4 firestarters

    1 xp parka

    All ammo

2 Fishermans sweater ( the one that is white and better than thick wool)

1 Hammer (swapped out any tools I had with better quality)

Swapped any items that were better quality than I had

    4 meal ready to eat

I think that's about it. This is my favorite map now. Now I have a reason to come back and try the summit a different way.

As a side note, I went around the far right side of the map,  a few climbs to a beautiful overlook. Then from cave b to cave a. That got me to the final climb to the summit. I did not use a map purposely but have since looked to see the route I took.

I am now sitting at 56 deg above ambient on my way to the Muskeg to drop off that hammer. After I believe Bleak Inlet will be my destination.

  10. I finally summited TM. What an awesome map. Had such a good time making my way up there (playing on stalker). Took in the sights, shot some wolves (maybe a lot of wolves), avoided a few bears. You know the usual.

As a quick side note, I did not see any Timberwolves on TM. Thought for sure I would but..

Final mountaineering rope nearly did me in. Luckily a well timed cup of joe allowed me just enough stamina to reach the summit.

Ah that sweet sweet loot. Almost to much up there.

I do really do enjoy this game. My very well maintained rabbit skin hat off to you Hinterland devs.

    Hello, Everyone.

;y name is Thelek, and I am  ....... Almost completely lost. It has been a couple af years since I have played TLD. This is almost totally diffrent game from when i last played. I really like it, but as i said, i am a bit lost.

When i last played, chapter 1 of wintermute had just been released. I didn't really care for i just prefer to explore at my own pace and go where i like. So survival mode is my favorite mode of play. But i have been major issues with my eyes, including extreme light sensitivity, color bluring and now glaucoma. So i had to back off from TLD because everything was too bright.

So, i come back and discover a whole dirrfent game from hat i was used to, and i love it so far. But it is still too bright and i csn only play a cuople hours at a time between headaches. I do have a little story for you, tho. Let y'all get a good laugh at my expense. First try in survival i res in at the logging camp in ML, this was always my favorite place to start. The trailers usually have great resources and if i was really lucky, i could walk out of there with a hatchet, hunting knife, storm lantern, and a pry bar. I could also find some good clothes on an occasion. Then there was either the preppers cache or maple sapling if you turned toward the dam. And my favorite aspect of spawning at this location, is the lookout tower just a little down the road. Well i ran to the burned out building an collected the hatchet, seceral pieces of firewood. A cook pot, and a skill book. The trailers held respectable loot, then i headed to the cache location. Not really surprised to find that it wasn't there, but i was surprised to see there was no sapling,  either. Oh well, time to head the other way. I was getting excited as i neared the clear cut, my favorite shelter in ML was just up the hill. As i turned the last corner, my excitement turned to dispair. The tower was destroyed. Well, i guess it's time to figure out if i liked the trapper cabin or dam better. I stood on the hill a few moments more and started making my way to trapper cabin. I didn't make it.

About 5 plays later, i ended up at the now destroyed outlook tower again, a rope is always a good thing to have and it seems that is a fixed resource at this location. I had cleared the area, and added a shiny new rifle to my collection, and was just getting ready to head back toward the dam when a small movement chaught my eye. On that ridge over there..... What is that??? "enables xbox zoom" is that a flag??? And another lookout???? How did i miss that before? Oh yeah, that's tight, i am almost blind. Well, i have spent the last several plays trying to figure out to get to the new lookout. Haven't made it yet, but hope to soon.

A couple questions, tho. First, do the caches still exist? I have been keeping an eye out for them, but haven't seen one yet. But i have also noticed a couple of the locations have significantly changed to the point that the cache would have to have been moved some distance. Next, why does it still take 10 minutes to break a branch into 3 sticks????? Seriously??? 10 minutes??? In real life, it might take 60 seconds or less, not 10 minutes. But then, i have always had some issues with time usage in this game. I just don't do tasks that i can get away with skipping, like breaking branches into sticks. And finally, are there plans in the works to allow us a small sled? I see a lot of teasers that point in that direction.

Well, time to get back to it. I have a tower to fiind.

I would say dont bother breaking branches unless absolutely necessary. I am always able to find enough sticks just laying on the ground. After a good blizzard you can find heaps of sticks.

I agree with you about the branches taking way too long. There are definitely some balance issues with the game. I mean I have to eat 4 pounds of deer to fill myself up.

Still amazes me that we can eat 2kilos of meat at once, plus 660ml of water, and there's room for more, even after months or years of rationing and stomach reduction :D

Agreed that Venison steak weighs in at 2.2 pounds American. I can eat 2 of those bad boys in a row.

The calories are close as our real life daily is based on 2000 I believe. I think that's what our labels say on most food.

Yeah, I'd imagine the Xbox One X would stay at a stable 60fps. I've been waiting to get my hands on the Series X since November now, since I am running on the seven year old generation one Xbox One, hoping it doesn't quit!

I am also waiting for the Series X. I hope within the next month or so stores will have them again.

My system now is not bad but the next gen is just a huge step up.

Forgot about fishing, cattails on the other hand I never considered due to their low calorie count, they are great in a pinch but for long term survival not so much. Fishing on the other hand is viable.

Dont you need gut to make the line though? So after a while you would have to hunt to make fishing line.

One very important thing when living in a cave is to make sure you drop all smelly stuff (meat, fresh guts) ASAP when you get home. This also applies to cooking sessions. While wolves and bears don't go into caves by themselves, they will come pay you a visit when they are lured there by smell.

I drop all smelly stuff as soon as I get back to my cave. As a rule I usually keep all meat (cooked or non cooked) right outside the cave opening on the left or right side depending.

I try to cook all raw meat when I return if possible.

  16. While cooking it is beneficial to use the wait time to craft, fix clothes, catch up on some reading. Just be mindful of the time to do these things vs. the time left to cook. It is easy to burn your meat or boil away your water in the process.

  17. It all came to an end this morning as I faded into the long dark. I went to sleep in a hunters blind with my satchel a little wet. This a bullshit mechanic for sure. I could see if all your clothes were soaked or frozen but a satchel. I had a bearskin bedroll as well. It was a great run and I can't wait to start another.

I learned so much about the mechanics and the game itself. I do wish they would flush that mechanic out a little. I dont want a warning but one would think that you actually dont take your satchel to bed with you. I dont think that item should affect you freezing to death at night.

I believe I got my money's worth just from that one run and am ready for more, just a little wiser.

Oh yeah and I still hate wolves.....
