Bleak Inlet or not - unless you find empty casings it ain't gonna help you. So this is most certainly a bug.

A good point, I thought that the casings would be found close to the milling machine.  It looks like  a bug.  I do not find cleaning kits either BTW. Just the guns. Weird.

  2. Same problem here. On custom low  resource availability scenarios  I always find guns but no rfile ammo and, rarely, a couple of revolver bullets. It is like the game wanted to force the player to go to Bleak Inlet early on. Not a good gameplay decision IMHO. It should make the ammos scarcer but still be available.

  3. Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts .

I didn’t know about the birch bark  tea  but that was not my point. When you are out of almost everything, as in my example, I feel it unrealistic that I couldn’t get some warmth from some just boiled hot water. Actually, it is « gamey » that we don’t.

You will tell me but it is just a game 😉. Yes of course, but such a game has to strike a balance between « gameyism » (what a horrible word) and realism.

You have survived the real world, that means this game is nothing to you! Well done and welcome!

Thank you.  Living both in Russia and Canada long ago, I've learnt that the intense cold gets first to you from the sole of your feet and from your upper head.  That helps playing TLD 😉

  5. Drinking a can of water just off the fire should give you  a little warmth inside, no ?  It is not the leaves of tea or the tomatoes in the soup which warm you up after all, it is the water 😀!  The Chinese have known that for centuries, loving to drink their kaishui (boiled water).

To appreciate that you have to start a game almost naked in HR , in the cold of night, jumping half frozen from cave to cave to get to Milton, finding miraculously a box of matches, a piece of coal and some sticks. And making water.

These are repairable also so you essentially have unlimited hacksaw usage.  I use it and the Heavy Hammer whenever possible.

Agreed but you need to have found one. At low availability setting, it can take time.  In the meantime...

I personally have no issues with the audio, and my head phones are cheap as can be.

Interesting... I have an old Corsair Vengeance 2100 headphones. The stereo sound works OK in other games or when I do the test in Windows but for the (virtual)  life of me, I can't say where a TLD growling  wolf  is around me before having a visual.

I guess I will have to buy a surround headphone some day.

Anyway, thank you to all of you for sharing your experience.

If you play with headphones or earbuds the directionality of the sounds becomes much more apparent. I actually find it annoying in some cases, for example by waterfalls, where small changes in direction lead to large changes in the sounds. So there’s definitely room for improvement.

I play with headphones only. You are right, the waterfalls sound weird when you turn the head. But it is not a problem. Not knowing where the wolf growls by the sound of it, is a safety hazard 😉.

  9. What I wonder is whether it is the path or the line of sight. In my example, the wolf couldn't see me if its field of vision is vertically restricted. Another example. Having an issue with another wolf, I crouched into he Trapper's Cabin derelict barn low end  and it stopped chasing me.

  10.  I love walking in the forest and listen to the snow crunched and the birds chirp. One can hear also a woodpecker busy at work.  But there is one noise I wonder what it is. Some kind of deep throated cooing. Any idea what bird or animal it is ?

  11. The only real weakness I find in this game relates to sounds, after hundreds of hours of play (not far from 700 h I think)

    - You hear some hoof sounds muffled in the snow, you hear a growl but you can't really  know where the deer or the wolf are by sound only.

    - Also the growling is as loud if the wolf is 50 m behind you or much closer.

Is it me and my hardware or is there some room for improvement for a future update ?

  12. Metal scraps are abundant, the necessary red/blue toolboxes a little less... The more I go , the more I do carcass harvesting bare handed, when I  don't have the toolbox, with a good fire lit after the kill, to save my precious saw or artisanal hatchet (whetting stones have a limited life too !)  as long as possible. Yes, very messy and smelly .

I was only trying to articulate what I thought the rationale was behind it.  As a single player game, I'm all for people playing the game how they want to *within the parameters decided upon by Hinterland.  I didn't realize you were saying that progress was accumulating on custom and them stopped... that's a weird one, since as far as I know progress towards feats was never meant to accrue via custom.

The last place I saw a good premade spreadsheet for this kind of stuff was on The Long Dark (Fandom) Wiki.  While it appears that the workable spreadsheet has been replaced by a PNG... it would still be easy to copy and paste the spreadsheet imbedded into the page itself, and use that as a basis to construct one that using conditional formatting to perform whatever extra functions you want/need.

In either case, my previous comments were only meant to be helpful.  If I misread the context, or missed the point you were trying to make... it wasn't intentional.

They were very helpful, thanks ! We are on the same wavelenght I might say.

I think my experience accumulated playing the 2 first episodes and survival with templates early on. When I began playing custom I did'nt realize  until sometime that the bonus progression was stuck. I wasn't clear enough from my side, I am afraid !

    Thanks for the link.

I think it's not so much an issue, as it was a conscious decision...  Since the advent of the Custom mode option, progress in a custom game would not contribute to the earning of Feats.  I suspect this is mainly due to the fact that a player could conceivably create a custom sandbox that was even easier than Pilgrim.  To that end, I tend to agree with this decision.  I think if we want to create our own "home brewed" experience, (then I would tend to agree with Hinterland) and don't think what we do in a customized experience should contribute to the feats meant to be earned through "standard" gameplay.

    :coffee::fire::coffee:

Not a big problem for me, I am not particularly interested by these bonuses. There are  already plenty of ways to tune an unique experience. I just didn't understand why the feats seemed stuck after a few tens hours of play. .  But I'd say , if some fellow gamers wanted to cheat themselves,  I wouldn't care.

There are several ways to get (or make) a spreadsheet that will enable you to plot out custom game configurations... is that what you mean?

    :coffee::fire::coffee:
I can link you to a few if you like.

I am almost done so I hardly  need it, thanks. I am curious though, I didn't find an obvious file for the parameters at the usual places (appdata etc.). Where is it ?

I also wish they would give us the ability to copy the code. You can paste it when you click on Enter Code but not copy it when you click on Share Code.

I asked about this in the Question thread back in July but never got an answer.

The main problem with copying that code is figuring out the difference between an upper case I (eye) and a lower case l (el). You also have top pay attention to the difference between an upper case O (oh) and a zero (0), although a zero is oblong. You just have to pay close attention.

Also be aware that when laying a custom game, feats are no longer acquired.

I saw that there was an issue with the Feats, thanks for confirming and explaining the reason ...

aka boredom?  If so, have you tried harder difficulty settings?

No, not boredom, the feeling that you know better than common sense dictates. Complacency kills in TLD. It happens at the end of a long session when you start to cut corners.

I play a custom setting not on the easy side. But I don’t like the interloper, too gamey for me.
