I came to this thread exactly to post this wish. I have a nice fire going on and I select "cook" on the cooking slot, why on earth do I have first to scroll past 20 of teas before I can select the meat I just harvested, don't you know that there are wolfs around me? So when harvesting beside a fire I usually drop all meat immediately to the ground and then right-click-move them onto the cooking slot. But this really feels cumbersome and unintuitive, I can't remember when I wanted to heat up an already cooked tea the last time, 99% of the time when I click on the cooking slot I want to barbecue some meat and not heat up some tea.

Oh my! I found all the questions and frustrations on this topic all in the same place. yes yes yes, by all means, yes!

I don't want to scroll gazillion items to reach the real food to be cooked!

+1 to the suggestion: remember the last cooked item and pin them up at the top of the list.

another one: why we cannot use our mouse wheel to scroll all these items? (we can use the wheel on the top-down menu to what to cook though)

Remember the last tool used for the action. If I use my hands to tear down curtains, why do the first thing I see is the hunting knife every time I do it?  Think about the click terror for 4 curtains to be torn one after the other.

This problem could be solved by this menu popping up when you pick something up from a big pile of similar items.

I'm not sure if it can be coded into the game though... Hopefully, it can.

There was a mod allowing you to place things in bundles and pick them up again with one click. I am not sure if its available though, But hey! if a modder can do it why do hinterland devs still ignore this?

  3. I am 100% with you on how the old paper UI was gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful.

    Look at these:

The current UI is not only ugly but also cumbersome. I think switching from the paper UI was the worst thing hinterland ever made.

Steam users can download the old versions if they want to play them instead, they are unsupported and can be hard to make work.

But I do not believe they are ever going to actively support separate versions of the game.

Well neither I nor any other player would go for an older version of the game for the sake of another UI.  There are so many game mechanics change since then it simply wouldn't be practical.

Besides I suggested not a separate versions of game, what I was referring is to make an "add-on" which would only change the ui of the game. I think it is easily doable.

  5. Another tip for beginners : eat all stuff you need to eat before fulfilling your thirst. Most items increase thirst when you eat so I usually eat when my thirst bar is zero (red) and then drink water to fill It back.

If you fulfill your thirst first, it will lower it when you eat again. So hunger first, thirst second.

I have gotten very good at bagging wolves with the revolver. Ammo is more plentiful for the revolver and even if I miss it scares Ole Fluffy off. I lave the rile home unless I am going for big game. Mostly I hunt rabbits with rocks and deer with the bow.

Ammo is rare and precious, rocks are free and everywhere.

    Happy hunting!

I hate to hunt with bow. Deer run away and die on hill tops where I can not access and my arrow is gone. That is so frustrating for me. Not to mention, unless you are level 5, you can not crouch and shoot. Thats another hinderance.

I always carry the rifle  whatever I'm doing but the revolver only at certain times because it's really only used for bunnies and occasionally deer! Unnecessary weight for small prey! Admittedly I used to carry both all the time with all ammo but realized it's not necessary!

Actually I do hunt deer pretty easily with revolver. If yo uare close enough and postioned yourself head on, single shot is enough to bring her down. Same with the wolves, if you can aim his head, he is instantly down (although when you aim they charge like crazy and you have to be very timely when to shoot)

Try killing a bear or moose with revolver!  Before it kills you😀

of course not. What I am asking is do you really carry rifle and revolver? I for myself carry revolver as it usually has more ammo and 2.5kg lighter compared to rifle. Surely if you are out hunting for a bear you'd bring a rifle.

you dont carry all items with you all the time do you?

It would be cool, though, if there actually was some difference between Will and Astrid's stats in-game. Maybe Will could carry 5kg more than Astrid when he's not tired, but could carry 5 kg less when he is fully tired? Or make it such that Will's sprinting stamina is a bit greater, but Astrid takes longer to tire? IDK

or Astrid burns less calories per day

Got to be honest I started using will originally because I thought he could carry more weight! How naïve was I😀

exactly!  I also thought Astrid has a lower calorie burn rate because women burns less calories in RL

  11. oh also with the new cooking mechanic, you can light 2x campfires next to each other to utilize 4x cooking spots which doubles the production of your cooked food.

although it does not conserve fuel as a 6x cooking spot oven, it does help in recovering lots of wasted time otherwise. (cooking 12-15 kg meat takes almost a day)

  12. While Hunting rabbits, I use the following tactic to eliminate any scent and lure predetors: I kill one, break its neck and immediately go in to my inventory and drop them on the ground, then go after next one and kill it to drop it again. After getting all the rabbits in the area I collect them and head straight to my shelter.  This allows me to hunt comfortably without attracting any wolves.
