Endless Tomato soup heating

I'm on a pc (Windows 7, 2011 laptop) and have been running the most current version of The Long Dark.

While I was in the Costal Highway level, I went to one of the waterside cottages. While using the fireplace, I tried to open up a can of tomato soup to heat up. I opened it successfully, but when I tried cooking it, it never finished cooking. The fire died out and the hours of daylight bar was still visible. I let it run for a little bit but the can never finished heating up, and since the cancel button didn't work I had to close the program.
