haraiva
I've read this on the wiki (and I'm not sure if it was confirmed by the devs) but there was mention of an Aurora, that might become an important thing later on in story mode.Link here: http://thelongdark.wikia.com/wiki/AuroraeI agree that Northern Lights are really beautiful! I was fascinated by them as a kid, sadly never seen them in real life though...maybe one day!
mutedgrey
You can see in the video in this thread that there was an aurora borealis in early game development as described in the wiki haraiva linked and towards the bottom of her post, bethany says the aurora will eventually be included in the game again. As haraiva said, it'll likely make an appearance in Story Mode.
Stephen Seagull
I'm personally very excited about seeing northern lights in the sandbox mode. I've seen them in real life and this is something you never forget! I think that possibility to see northern lights would add a lot of excitement in the game. Of course not on a daily ("nightly") basis, but they could be limited to just few hours per week on average. That could be also set as an achievement and encourage more night activities in the game.
