Fell off dam and survived?!

Having a relaxing game at lowest difficulty setting, I went from Pleasant Valley back to Mystery Lake through the dam. Had to cross the dam at dusk and made a wrong step and fell to my death. No, wait, I only fell half way down the dam, at 85% health, and now could treat a bruise, have a cup of tea and carefully, step by step, climb all the way down.

That dam surely looks slippery, but is strangely easy to climb down from. :?

This happened very near the beginning, coming from below.

Many of the slopes too steep to climb up are fairly easy to get down, especially if you are crossing the incline rather than following it.
