Changing the sound output on linux native (w pulseaudio)

I am trying to change the sound output from one sound card to another while playing TLD.

As soon as the game loses the focus, it fully ceases to use the sound system. So I cannot switch card in pavucontrol, since the TLD entry has disappeared.

Is there a known solution to this problem? (other than stopping the game, changing the default output and restarting the game)
