Items go missing

I sometimes run into an issue where I put some food in my storage, go outside the trappers cabin to get some more sticks, come back in and the food is missing in storage. Any idea what causes this or how to work around it? It can get very frustrating.

edit:

• I am on linux atm but have noticed it may happen on XB1 too. One of my camping pots went missing.
• I did submit a bug ticket for PC with all the information I had. I noticed that it happens way more if I have more than 1 save.
• the food items were well above 60% so going outside for sticks should not have de-spawned them
