Switch inventory?

So a couple of things I noticed: In the help screen it says quick stats is + and pause is -. Pause seems to be + ?

Second my inventory during story mode. It often just brings up the quest 'search for clues' etc after the plane crash. But it essentially locks me out of my inventory. Which is kind of a problem if I need a bandage, hose hips, gut a rabbit. I hit '-' and sometimes it brings up inventory, sometimes it just brings up this quest reminder and I'm unable to access inventory except via the radial. I don't remember this on PC (I usually play survival on PC) but it's been a while.
