Brick Wall
In addition to snow being potable as it sits normally there is another melting method. When training pilots on survival after an ejection we trained them to only eat snow for hydration, as it will lower their body temp, if absolutely necessary. Aside from that one of the items in the survival kits was a wide mouth collapsible water flask/bladder. Think of a camel back bladder that's more square with a wide opening. The pilots were trained to fill the bladder with snow and then place it in between their inner and outer layers of clothing. This way it's not against their skin and lowering their body temp, and it is kept above freezing to melt the snow. Just a thought.
