OpenID login cannot connect to existing user name

When logging in using the OpenID log in form, I can log in fine. Then it asks me which user name I would like to use. I enter my existing user name.

It shows an error message that that name was already taken, but then gives me to option to enter a password in the event that I want to connect to an existing account instead of creating a new one.

So I enter my password below my user name and click on the submit button... nothing happens.

Please fix this or add the missing option to connect to an OpenID account in the account settings' Social tab or disable OpenID altogether. The way this currently is, is confusing and broken.
