Stytch Fingal
Do not go careless into the long dark (with sincere apologies to Dylan Thomas) Do not go careless into the long dark, Gather wood for a fire, melt the cold snow; Blaze, blaze against blizzards, futile spark. Though warm, wanderers, know night's spiteful arc, Be sure your hands have found clothing to sew. Do not go careless into the long dark. Sad wanderers wave no goodbyes---how stark Their corpses lie alone and still. You, though, Blaze, blaze against blizzards, futile spark. Wild wanderers who chased and caught the wolf's bark, And learned, though late, rabbits are a safer foe, Do not go careless into the long dark. Grave wanderers who have borne frostbite's mark, And heard overhead a joyful hunger of crows, Blaze, blaze against blizzards, futile sparks. And you, new wanderer, here on a lark, Your curses will bless ice with blood, I know. Do not go careless into the long dark. Blaze, blaze against blizzards, futile spark.
