In some interfaces, you can also use the keyboard to decrease or increase quantity - I believe it's A & D keys, respectively.

If I recall, W & S move up and down as well.  I use them when harvesting a rabbit for example.

Harvesting a rabbit?... Maybe when harvesting a bear or a moose.

You can actually use your mousewheel to quickly increase/decrease the amount you want to transfer.

Huh... I hate the mouse wheel... probably why I didn't notice.  Thanks for the tip though.

The modders have done an outstanding job of not only updating mods and releasing new ones but also providing some great documentation on how to use mods.

Now, it would be nice to see some documentation on how to MAKE mods.  I've seen plenty on how to install mods, and many videos showcasing mods, but I've seen, next to nothing, on how to make mods.  I've dabbled with making mods for many games, but doing so for TLD has just been slow going.  Haven't even started, yet, due to a nearly complete lack of information on the subject.

  4. This game is going to break my mouse.  I've clicked THOUSANDS of times transferring items.  It would be EXTREMELY helpful if we could click on the number box in the transfer window and type an amount to transfer.

  5. Currently, the numbered hotkeys cycle through your gear in a set manner that is, usually, far from preferable.  It would be nice if we could, like most games, have configurable hotkeys on the numeral row.  That way, I could set them as:  1 - bow, 2 - rifle, 3 - revolver, 4 - torch, 5 - flare, 6 - guts, 7 - 13% meat, etc... for instance.

Barring that, or in addition to, it would be REALLY nice if we could configure priorities.  As of now, when I press the 'decoy' hotkey, it drops the highest percentage meat, rather than the lowest.  If we had another tab in the menus that we could change the orders of each hotkey's priorities, that would help a LOT with efficiency.

  6. As much as I've come to love The Long Dark, I have some severe issues with the sfx.  Most of the sfx are fine and well balanced, in both volume and frequency.  But there are a handful that are, just, outrageously ear-piercing.  Granted, I am among the more sensitive specimens of our species in terms of hearing, but I am NOT the only one.  Not only do these, particular, fx hurt my ears and my head, they break immersion which is one of the qualities of such games that make them so great.  I'm not sure that I could offer a comprehensive list of sfx in question, but here are a few that I can recall off the top of my head.

    - The sawing sound of the hacksaw

    - One of the finishing sfx of using the hacksaw... just sounds like a metal bar hitting the ground

    - A couple of the ammo box inventory movement sounds

    - One of the the empty casing inventory movement sounds

    - A couple of the Rock Cache closing sounds

    - MANY of the sounds caused by the auroras

I know I'm forgetting one or ten.  I'll have to try to remember to make a note of any more and to try to figure out how to describe which of the random sfx I am referring to in each instance.  In the mean time, maybe some hearing tests could be conducted on Hinterlands staff to find your most sensitive ears to test these sfx as this discomfort is not experienced by all.  While it may be a bit of a tedious task to comb through the library of sfx for the game and then running them through an equalizer and/or filters, a significant portion of your player base will greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for your attention to this matter.

I think the general understanding is that compasses are useless due to the unusual electromagnetic activity.
If you want a cheat for practical purposes:

      Hide contents

if you drop a stick from your inventory, it will always orient the same way, so that can work as a compass

That makes sense... I forget about the EM field.  And, I knew that dropped items always fell in the same direction, I just didn't make that particular connection.  I blame my autism.

  8. Navigating in the wilderness is tough.  Navigating in the fog or during a blizzard is also quite difficult.  It would stand to reason that SOMEBODY up there in the great white north would have had a compass among their belongings.  The item could, probably, be removed for Interloper difficulty along with the firearms.  I ended up having to paint arrows on the ice, as I use the Fishing Huts as walk-in refrigerators to store my meats, just to feed myself during prolonged periods of fog and/or blizzards.

Could we please get a cleanup mechanic for buildings in the game? Like the old way of gathering fire making supplies, where you would select an amount of time to “clean up” and the survivor would clean up the paper and knocked over furniture in the house. Some of the houses just aren’t really livable due to the shear amount of trash in them.

I, literally, just signed up for the forums to request this mechanic.  I know this thread is a bit old, but it could use a revival.
