Be aware that when moving things like hides and guts that the game can now combine individual or groupings items of slightly different conditions (i.e. 100% and 99%) into one grouping when moving things back and forth.  It requires that the character move things from storage to inventory.  I discovered this when moving cured hides and guts around. The total number of items were there but, as an unexpected change, I was concerned about where some stuff had gone.  What happened to my 99% cured guts?!?

I reported this and while the explanation seemed plausible I would have preferred that the game not do that or maybe have had patch notes to explain it.  Assuming I actually read and understood any patch notes.  😅

I hope that this applies to arrows. I would prefer to have 1 stack of arrows in my inventory regardless of their condition.

Encouraged by your success in returning for the cache, I also tried to mountain goat my way in. I gave up after about 20 minutes. I'm assuming you did this at the landslide at the swaying bridge. I'm on PC, not sure if the platform matters versus console.

I tried to drop weight thinking that might help, but found that, at this location, you cannot drop items. Perhaps that is the clue.

Here is how to get back up to the mine!
Facing the prison from the road near the prison you have a frozen marsh on the left and right side of the road. The marsh on the right side is where you end up after having made the long journey from the mine after having completed the quest there and the mine cave in. Up on the right cliff face of this marsh is a ledge with a tree tilting at a steep angle - a tree you had to navigate down when coming from the mine. It seems impossible to get back up to the ledge with the tree on it however it can be done! Simply go as high up as you can towards the tree ledge. Now, holding the forward key (not sure if this is required, I did it for fear of falling lol), hold the left movement key and just keep going to the left - the rock that you traverse will seem too steep but you will make it no problem. At the end you have wiggle around a bit to get up on the ledge where the tree is and there is a chance of spraining your ankle. Once you are close to the mine you will have to climb two ropes, 1 very long one.

Good luck and please report back if you have any issues.

  3. I miss the main menu with the animals weaving in and out of view, the changing weather and change of time of day plus the menu that only appears if you move the mouse. Bring something like that back please!

First of all, my son doesn't know that word and he's 8 because we don't swear in front of him. Regardless of if/when he hears it, we plan to teach him to be respectful about swearing, as it isn't a necessary nor intellectual way of going about life dropping cusses everywhich way. That being said, there was very little reason for it to be added into a T rated game and I'm well within my right to offer feedback. If someone's opinion is different from your own that doesn't make them wrong, and it doesn't equate to whining. Might wanna consider having some respect when you disagree, instead of being condescending and rude about it.

The profanity filter should be used by you. Have fun and good luck.

  5. I was at the old sub station and a wolf came after me. I shot the wolf dead with 1 of my 2 arrows right at the gate of the old sub station (he died right between the 2 poles of the entrance to the sub station) and the wolf fell through the snow - I could not retrieve my arrow nor interact with the dead wolf. I'll grab a screenshot of the exact location and will post it.

  7. just found out about this from the steam forum. fantastic job man! FWIW, I don't see any ads on android (galaxy s8). Cheers and thank you!!

you can support the developer of this great app here (buy him a coffee, a ferrari, whatever you can afford!):

I'm not sure if my donation of $5 went through Mobile_Pilgrim, I used the debit/credit card choice and filled it our correctly but got no confirmation and it stayed on the same page with my info still there so I clicked Pay Now again and the same thing happened. Fwiw, I use Firefox (latest) on pc.

Any chance you could make this thread a sticky devs?

  8. Currently on day 305 Voyageur run, working towards to 500 day achievement. Learned a lot this run, (normal) wolves aren't a threat any more as I know how to kill them almost 100% of the time with a bow and I learned how to fend  them off with a torch or with a flare if it's too windy for a torch. I never have had any major issues with timber wolves, shooting at the most aggressive wolf (leader?) removes the ,morale meter pretty quickly - I just make sure to get my back against a wall or rock or something. Bear and moose hunting I win far more often than I lose. I have now been in every area and now most of the areas very well and the rest reasonably well. Just 4 achievements left to get for 100%. The first game out of the great many that I have played that I was dedicated to getting 100% achievements, it's just so fun, relaxing at times and outright terrifying at times. Have fun and good luck.

    Thanks! 🙂

I'd been concerned about the reports that moose don't bleed out. I'm a BIG bow and arrows fan, but that's largely because an arrow causes faster bleed-out. Do you find that they do more base damage than bullets?

I don't know about the damage models but based on my experience the bow is the most effective for taking out critters. I do try and get head on with the animal when I hunt, I find that provides a higher percentage of 1 shot kills.

    Good luck and have fun!

  10. If you didn't have Steam sync enabled and cannot access the Users directory on your old ssd you are out of luck I believe sir.
For future reference you can manually back up the game save files or create a .bat file to do this for you. The location of the game saves is:
    C:\Users\your windows account name\AppData\Local\Hinterland\TheLongDark

This assumes that windows is installed on your C drive, change the letter as need be.

I just answered my own question...he was still there the next morning, after a blizzard. And now he's lying in the road in front of Quonset. Only took me...7, 8 shots? 😕

    But I got him. 🙂

Well done! I find the bow to be best for taking down anything but that's just me!
