That would screw with a lot of people's heads. There'd be lots of posts on that one.

That is why for April Fool's Day or some other type of joke it might be fun but it would really mess with people. Maybe make a random bear stand up and explain the dangers of forest fires. 😉

Same for me at the start.  I have to sprint to get the rabbit before it become undazed.  Not a big fan of the neck-breaking sound and the chirp, myself.

Not sure that I really noticed a chip noise but I do think that they did a good job ob the neck breaking sound. I think that for fun they should make the rabbit shed a tear a moment or two before you breaks its neck to mess with you. Maybe on April's Fool Day or something like that it would be funny.

  3. I took down a bear near the Trapper's Cabin. I put 4 rifle shots into him and then got mauled. I think that the mauling is worse when they are injured. I barely survived. Once I got up and grabbed the rifle I gave the bear a minute or so to get some distance and shot it again in the butt. It turned and got on its hind legs and growled at me. Another shot to the chest took it down. I seriously thought that when I got mauled I was not going to survive because it was such a long animation and my character made a comment on how badly it was going.

  4. I have to say that I recently got the stone-age sniper achievement which really shocked me. Thankfully rocks bounce nicely off of the ice and travel a good distance. 🙂 In case anybody else is after that achievement that is how I got it. I was a bit of an accident and a shock that I actually hit the rabbit.

Am I the only one that thinks that "knock-out" time for a rabbit is a bit short? That is where I will fail the most with rabbits. I can do a decent job of hitting them with the stone but they get up sometimes before I can get my reticule to say rabbit and pick them up.

  5. I haven't been playing too long but I have to say that I found Pleasant Valley quite difficult. The landscape really is tough to find things and getting caught outside in a blizzard for a few days really out me to the test. I have owned this game for many years but only recently really started to play it. Love the game and the challenge.

No way do I want cobra chickens in this game, bear and moose are scary enough! lol

I'm good with cougars. I live where this game is set, and we have cougars here. And elk. Not to mention orca...

Cougars and Elk would be cool though I am freaked out enough when a wolf or bear is coming at me. I would love to see an Orca in the ocean in this game even if you can't "catch" or harvest it.

I was also thinking that if the bear has a cave to live in why aren't there dens for the wolves or the possibility to find burrows or warrens for rabbits.

  7. I want some geese in the game. Probably be a decent source of food and you could use the feathers. Possibly use those features for some type of strange cloak to help keep you dry while snowing instead of for arrows.

  8. I do wonder why there is a cannery in the game and yet not tons of canned fish and other types of food. You would think that there would be more canned animals in case of emergency needs.

I do agree that there should be a cooking feature in the game too.

I wish that food items could be combined to create more of a "dish" with added benefits. Maybe combine the mushrooms with some meat and use coffee as a dry rub?

  9. This is a great idea but I wonder if some of the reason things like this aren't in the homes has to do with that everybody is experiencing the same thing and figured that they need this to survive and get to some place warmer.

  10. Thank you so much for this thread. I have recently started to use the hunting rifle and I am missing constantly, even at close range. I am hoping that this will make the difference for me because I really need to get better at hunting to get food and supplies.

  11. I would like to add that in my current game I had an issue where I ran out of food and was stuck due to blizzards in a location. The only thing that saved me and allowed me to wait out the storm was the small bit of calories that I was able to get from herbal tea and coffee. It was a two day blizzard with just enough time to grab some wood to keep a fire going. Everybody is correct though that it is best to save coffee and tea but without it I would've died from lack of food stuck out in the Pleasant Valley.

  12. I had some issues last night trying to cook coffee. I would light a fire, select cook, select an empty can, and then select coffee. It would give me a metal sound and nothing else. Other things like water and food would work. I had the same issue with cooking prepared rose hips. I assume this is part of the update since I have never had the issue before. I almost died due to running out of food and I was surviving on the small calories from coffee and tea.

I prefer to do 3) then shoot wolf with whatever projectile weapon I choose, and proceed to feast on sweet, sweet deerwolf burgers....

I pulled out a torch and chased off the wolf that way. When I was done harvesting some of the deer I pulled a torch from the fire and slowly backed away. Worked like a charm.

Flares and torches are not the same thing :)

Just a follow up on this. When I was playing a few days ago....When I left Carter Dam heading on Winding River I encountered a wolf. I pulled out a flare and I was still attacked by the wolf. As a note, I did have a pretty strong scent coming off of me. That is probably the reason that the flare didn't work.

Did you know that wolves are never too pleased when you try steal their deer carcass from them. 😛

I can confirm this one. I chased off a wolf with a torch, stole some of its recent deer kill, and walked away with a lit torch as it growled at me. It thankfully never chased me since I only took a little bit of the carcass.

Did you know that a wolf will not attack you as long as you hold a flare?

It will just stand there and show teeth. Once the flare goes out, the wolf will charge (campfires work the same way).

Is this correct? I was recently attacked by a moose and survived. I started to walk away and came across a wolf. I pulled out a torch and that didn't stop it (guess it could've been a Timberwolf) but I got attacked anyway and yet survived that too.

  17. I know that I was exploring and watched a wolf take down a deer in the distance. I was a jerk and chased the wolf away with a torch, lit a fire, and harvested some of the deer. After that the wolf was pretty mad at me. I eventually grabbed a torch and backed away slowly and let the wolf have the rest of the corpse. So it probably just died of something attacking it.

Can a moose kill any of the other wildlife in the game or does it just really hurt the player?

I start on the driver's side - open the hood (if possible) to check for battery, front door - sweep the dashboard, floor and glove box (Canadians love their driving gloves! :)), back door - sweep the floor and seat, trunk.

Still don't bother with the visors.

Wait...I can check the visors?? I had no idea. Of course I just learned after about 10 hours of playing that I can recheck empty cabinets, etc and use it as storage.

  19. I know that the prybar can be used to open lockers and trunks but can I use it to get into boarded up houses and buildings? I am specifically thinking of the buildings that are in Milton. I think that it would be a really cool mechanic to be able to pry off the boards on the front doors and get into them.

Thank you for all of the answers
