Interesting things you're finding in ZoC
Acthalla replied to hozz1235's topic in Tales from the Far Territory Discussion
I've had it for saplings too. I was exploring an area in ZoC and I know there were no saplings there, just a bunch of birch bark (which I happily collected). Fog rolled in and I made a snow shelter, and there were five birch saplings where the bark had been when I exited the shelter. -
Zone of Contamination; why?
Acthalla replied to kirkmc's topic in Tales from the Far Territory Discussion
I don't hate the region, but I have noticed a trend in more recent regions that they kinda feel like "one-time use" regions: you go visit once to get the thing that's in that region, and otherwise you don't go back. Forsaken Airfield, ZoC, Blackrock, and to a lesser extent even Ash Canyon just don't feel the same way as, say, Pleasant Valley or Broken Railroad: they're not zones I want to linger in, either because the weather/environmental conditions are annoying to deal with, they're annoying to get to/from, or there's a lack of suitable places to set up a temporary base of operations. I don't think it's a bad thing to have "one and done" regions mixed in with the more general play areas, but I was hoping we'd get a map or two in this expansion where we could feasibly chill long-term. It's especially vexing when travel to the Far Territories takes so long: even if I don't typically spend long amounts of time there, I can pop into Ash Canyon to gather resources or just for a temporary change of scenery without difficulty. "Popping in" to Forsaken Airfield or ZoC can take an hour of mindless walking just to get there. -
Zone of Contamination Impressions

I've found one area that is too long to run through, but good idea on the spray paint. I've been using it to mark dead ends/areas I've cleared, but didn't think to mark fog zones. I also did not realize you could equip the mask from the first aid menu, good to know! -
Zone of Contamination Impressions

The enormity of everything is incredible. I am similarly worried about the number of canisters. I haven't started the Tale yet (I haven't completed part 1 on this save yet and wanted to jump right in the new zone), but after initially drowning in canisters I'm now worried about how many I might need for the tale. I've explored a decent chunk of the mine. I've found about 25 canisters and already used 10. I did get Cabin Fever while inside the mine, which seems kinda odd to me. I know the mine is "inside", but I'd been traveling extensively and hadn't stayed in the same place for longer than it took to sleep. Given the size of the mine, it seems counter-intuitive for it to increase Cabin Fever as it curtails exploration. -

October Dev diary?
Acthalla replied to YungSleazeMane's topic in Tales from the Far Territory Discussion
It wouldn't even have to be a full "dev diary". Just a screenshot and a few sentences on what they're working on would be nice. Now that updates are potentially going 6+ months apart, it would be nice to at least get more frequent sneak peeks. -
Intellectual property. Shorthand for the world, characters, etc. A Long Dark TV show, for example, would use the Long Dark IP

I'd think it would be (relatively) simple: create a mesh for beds with and without a blanket, and have the mesh switch based on user action, applying one of a few textures (I think there's three quilt textures currently?). Bed meshes are re-used too, so it's not like you'd have to re-skin every single bed in every zone. Then again my game dev experience is limited to a Don't Starve mod way back when. For safehouse customization, I don't think a fully customizable system like Green Hell or Raft or every other survival game is needed, where you place every individual item where you need it. I think I'd prefer more of a system where you have a series of upgrades that you can make that update the safehouse in pre-determined ways.

The one thing I've always wished I could do in TLD is move blankets and pillows around. Most of the places I like to base out of have sad little camping cots or bare mattresses, and I wish my survivor could carry one of the beautiful quilts she's found in inconveniently-placed houses to her preferred hangouts (or alternatively, spend hours crafting a nice warm quilt of her own out of cloth and down). For balance with the bedroll, I don't think quilts/blankets should be able to be used outside of beds. Perhaps having a well-made bed could reduce the rate at which Cabin Fever risk is gained?

A bunch of Frontier Cooking recipes I came up with
Acthalla replied to JackTrysGames's topic in Wish List
I tried to think of a few that used cans for cooking or that used ingredients that aren't currently used. Miner's Mug Cake "The miners came up with a way to make a birthday cake without an oven." Cooked in a recycled can from Water, Oil, Flour, and a Candy Bar. Reduces risk of Cabin Fever. Cat Tail Pickles "Not as good as what you'd find at a deli, but it's still a salty treat." Cooked in a recycled can from Water, Salt, and Cat Tail Stalks. Slightly increases the caloric value of the cat tail stalks. Steak Fries "Make you wish you had a porterhouse to go with them." Cooked in a skillet from Potatoes, Salt, and Oil. Increases caloric value of potatoes. Quick Gruel "It's not tasty, but it's something warm to eat, at least." Cooked in a recycled can from Water and Oats. Less filling than porridge, but cooks quicker, uses less oats, and doesn't require a pot. -
Odd sound when approaching pre-placed snow shelters
Acthalla replied to hozz1235's topic in Survival Mode
Yes, it's very obvious in the Forsaken Airfield by the Drift Island cabin. You hear a "whumph" noise like snow falling off a tree branch every time you head toward the fishing hut, which does happen to be near a snow shelter. -
There's a new animation when you sprain your ankle where your character limps. I love it, but I am also prone to motion sickness, and the lurchiness of the new animation immediately made me queasy. Would it be possible to add an option to smooth out the animation? Possibly tied to the same "reduce head bob" setting that already exists?
